Apocalypse: I Built the Infinite Train

Chapter 81: Duality

Inside the pitch-black prison cell.

"They were just annoying people..." Four-year-old KIKI mumbled softly, pressing her tiny hand against her chest. "But, Enqi... it hurts here."

Lin Xian was about to say something when he suddenly saw the little girl turn around and walk away.

His eyes widened in shock as she approached eight-year-old KIKI—

And took the handgun from her hands!

Lin Xian’s heart dropped.

Sh*t!

He moved to stop her, but before he could react, the KIKI standing outside the iron bars had already stood up.

She raised her tiny hand, shaping it like a gun, and slowly walked towards the end of the corridor.

There, the silhouette of a woman had not yet disappeared into the distance…

From outside, the joyous laughter of children echoed in the open yard.

"Wait!"

Lin Xian shouted, gripping the iron bars with both hands, his Mechanical Heart surging with energy—

But he couldn't break the lock no matter how hard he tried.

Frustrated, he immediately tried to build something—a machine, anything—that could cut through the iron bars.

But constructing a cutting tool took time, and no matter how desperately he worked, he wouldn’t make it in time.

"F* you!"

Lin Xian roared in fury and turned around, raising his arm—

Then, with a blast, he fired his Wind Cannon straight at the monster lurking in the shadows!

Tuk! Tuk! Tuk!

The wind bullets struck an invisible wall, dispersing harmlessly, failing to cause any damage to the terrifying, eerie creature.

Lin Xian's expression changed drastically.

No… this isn’t right.

If that white monster on the train had been the true cause of KIKI’s Corruption, then he had already killed it.

So where did this thing come from?!

"AHHHH!"

The three different versions of KIKI shrieked in terror.

But Lin Xian suddenly froze.

Terror? No… that wasn’t fear earlier.

Fear is…

His eyes narrowed sharply as realization struck him.

This monster—

It was not the same as the White Corrupting Demon from the train!

Fear.

F*. That silver antenna!

Where is it?!

Lin Xian looked down at his hand. He remembered holding it—

But now, his hand was empty.

Huh?!

He snapped his head up—

And saw the monstrous shadow in the corner.

Without hesitation, he lunged forward—

And plunged his hand straight into its gaping, bloody maw!

"Trying to scare me?!"

Lin Xian knew now—

The monster that had grabbed KIKI and devoured her back on the train was the real source of the Corruption.

Right now, he was inside KIKI’s Corrupted World, probably unconscious somewhere in reality.

And this other terrifying entity?

It was the work of that silver antenna!

Just as he thought!

The moment his hand plunged into the monster’s mouth, he felt something—

Something cold and metallic.

And in an instant—

The shadowy figure vanished.

A sharp beep echoed through the cell—

And the iron bars swung open.

Lin Xian blinked in surprise.

I was right.

Without wasting a second, he bolted out of the cell.

Tap, tap, tap...

The dark corridor stretched endlessly before him, a faint light flickering in the distance.

He ran faster and faster, the light growing blindingly bright.

He had to shield his eyes with his arm.

Finally—

He broke through the light.

The sun blazed overhead.

The harsh brightness stung his eyes, forcing him to squint as he adjusted to the sudden change.

Outside, a vast green lawn stretched before him.

The orphanage stood alone in the middle of the wilderness, its fences and gardens long since dismantled.

Beyond the orphanage, towering skyscrapers loomed in the distance, their presence making the lone building appear out of place.

But there were no massacres.

No bloodshed.

Just a group of children—

Laughing and playing under the sunlight.

And beneath the sprawling shade of an ancient banyan tree, he saw her.

A tiny girl sat quietly on the grass, clutching her teddy bear.

She gazed toward a small road in the distance, where—

A disheveled woman walked away, her figure slowly fading into the horizon.

It was the back of her mother.

Leaving.

"Hey..."

A familiar voice called out behind him.

Lin Xian turned around—

And saw KIKI.

The KIKI he knew.

She stood a few steps away, radiant and smiling.

"Thank you, Lin Xian."

The blizzard raged on outside.

Inside Car No. 1, Chen Sixuan and Shasha anxiously monitored KIKI’s condition.

For some reason—

After all that blood loss, KIKI’s complexion had suddenly improved.

Her breathing was steady.

Color had returned to her face.

"She… doesn’t seem as bad as before," Chen Sixuan murmured, frowning.

She couldn’t understand it.

KIKI’s condition had been fluctuating wildly, unpredictable and strange.

Everything that had happened on the Infinite Train since last night had been disturbingly bizarre.

Even now, she still felt lingering fear.

But at least… for now, KIKI was getting better.

They could finally breathe.

"But ever since earlier… I haven’t heard those footsteps anymore."

Shasha glanced warily down the corridor, her small face tense with caution.

THUD. THUD. THUD.

Heavy footsteps echoed.

Both women turned their heads sharply—

To see Luo Ye striding toward them, his expression grim.

"There’s a train ahead."

Chen Sixuan and Shasha stiffened.

They rushed to the cockpit—

And saw it.

In the northwest, along the Jiangyu JY3365 railway—

A black train was approaching.

But it wasn’t on the same track as the Infinite Train.

In the distance, the two rail lines would eventually converge—

And the black train was headed straight for Mount Daluo.

Clank. Clank. Clank.

As the train got closer, they saw it clearly.

A Starfleet intercontinental-class military train!

From the far end of the tracks, a deep rumbling filled the air as the Starfleet’s massive train thundered past.

"The military? That’s the Iron Guard Battalion!" Shasha gasped, recognizing the insignia on the black train.

The train was loaded with heavy armored tanks—

Iron Guard-3 Military Assault Mechs.

Three ‘Destroyer’ Heavy Siege Walkers.

And at the very end—

A colossal mobile railgun.

RUMBLE. RUMBLE.

Above them, the sky darkened—

As countless aerial gunships and aircraft roared past, shaking the train windows with their sonic booms.

"That’s a lot of firepower… and they’re all heading toward Mount Daluo and Yubei City?"

Chen Sixuan’s face darkened.

"This must be what the radio warned about—an extremely high-risk eerie zone. A Major Eerie Entity. It’s dangerous. We need to take the southern route."

"What about Lin Xian? We still can’t reach him on the radio…"

Shasha’s eyes flickered with concern as she watched the enormous military force move like a dark storm.

It was the first time she had ever seen a military deployment of this scale.

"We wait."

Chen Sixuan took a deep breath and looked at them.

"Luo Ye, check the train while it’s still daylight. Shasha, take the bike and scout ahead on the southern route. I have a bad feeling—no matter which path we take, getting into Yubei City won’t be easy. I’ll stay here to watch over KIKI and keep an eye on Lin Xian. Nightfall is coming. Tonight, we hold position and defend."

Shasha nodded.

"Alright. Let’s move."
