Chapter 80: Sucker
Chapter 80: Sucker
“Sister, we’re here to buy things,” Xiao Cao said as she stared at Su Yinhe for a long time.
So beautiful.
Her face was beautiful.
Her clothes were beautiful.
Her hair was beautiful.
Everything about her was beautiful.
Her clothes were so clean, and her hair was so flowing.
When Su Yinhe turned her head, she saw a little girl timidly looking at her, her eyes full of admiration.
Su Yinhe looked down at her own clothes; there were no mistakes, it was all good.
“Buy it over there,” Su Yinhe pointed to where the small robot was located.
Wang Xin and Ah Qian knew where to exchange money, but seeing Su Yinhe, they wanted to come over to express their gratitude.
Especially Ah Qian, who had practiced his flattery for half a day; it couldn’t be wasted, he had to say it to Su Yinhe.
“Thank you, sister,” Xiao Cao responded faster than Wang Xin and Ah Qian.
After Xiao Cao arrived here, she was a bit strange, snatching the opportunity to speak before them twice.
She was very different from usual.
It made Wang Xin give her several looks.
“Do you want some candy?” Su Yinhe asked Xiao Cao, feeling a bit of pity, and pulled out some candy.
She usually sat there to play, keeping some snacks beside her.
Xiao Cao initially wanted to refuse; they had already taken Su Yinhe’s offered meals and instant noodles, they couldn’t just take more from her without giving anything in return.
But as she looked at the candy in the palm of Su Yinhe’s hand, the words of refusal stuck in her throat, unable to come out.
“Take it. Come here,” Su Yinhe beckoned to her.
Xiao Cao, looking at her tender white palm, involuntarily walked up to her.
As Xiao Cao approached, a bad smell came with her. Recently, there had been a severe lack of water, and even the usually clean Xiao Cao couldn’t keep her body clean.
Su Yinhe’s expression didn’t change as she grabbed a handful of candy, and Xiao Cao had to use both hands to catch them.
“Go and share these.”
“Thank you, sister,” Xiao Cao bit her lip, her eyes watering.
“Good girl,” Su Yinhe felt fond of seeing such a sensible little girl.
She had never had a sister in the past, let alone one like this; hers were the ones full of scheming.
The kind that waited for you to finish a report, sweetly said they wanted to reference it, and after borrowing it, copied it wholly and then turned around accusing you of copying theirs.
When they needed something, it was ‘sister’ this and ‘sister’ that, and when they didn’t, they just bluntly said “Su Yinhe.”
It was rare to see such a pure little sister, and Su Yinhe felt a great deal of affection.
Xiao Cao, holding the candies Su Yinhe gave, solemnly divided them among the others as if completing a mission.
After the distribution, those who got the candies opened the wrappers without a word, placed the candy in their mouths, and licked the wrappers two or three times.
After licking, they folded the wrappers neatly and kept them in their pockets if they had one, or clutched them tightly in their hand if they didn’t.
Xiao Cao was more refined but licked the wrapper too.
With the candy in her mouth, looking at Su Yinhe who was watching a show, she felt very sweet.
Sweet to her heart.
While Wang Xin and Ah Qian exchanged their Crystal Cores for money, Xiao Cao still reluctantly watched Su Yinhe.
The other people were too excited about exchanging their money and didn’t notice Xiao Cao’s gaze.
After Wang Xin and Ah Qian exchanged their money, they headed straight for the instant noodles section.
But when they got there, they found only a few people, unlike the crowded scene before.
But so many people had come in just now.
Where did they go if they weren’t buying instant noodles?
Thinking about it, Ah Qian voiced his question. He intended to ask Wang Xin, thinking Brother Wang Xin was smart and must know.
But after he asked, Wang Xin didn’t answer, but a few people buying instant noodles nearby, having heard him, kindly responded. “People? Everyone has gone upstairs to buy rice,” said one Superpower User, pointing upwards.
He actually wanted to buy rice and flour too, but last time he bought a bag and a wok, only to find out when he got home that he had no clue how to cook.
So, he asked the female superpower user living next door for help, but what she did was cook a spoonful, steal a spoonful, continuously…
In other words, from the one bag he bought, he only ended up eating half.
And the kicker? He even paid her extra.
He didn’t really grasp this, thinking it only took two spoonfuls to cook that much, not realizing it was the amount in one spoonful.
In the end, when it was time to eat, that female superpower user was too brazen. She didn’t try to hide her stealing, and he caught her.
He’s usually careless, and that female superpower user probably took him for an easy mark. Woe is me…
He was so angry, he wanted to snatch back that half bag of rice the female superpower user had swindled.
But then those two little brats she raised clung to his legs, crying, begging him to let her go.
They cried so pitifully. Soft-hearted, he let her go.
Being full himself meant his family wasn’t hungry. The female superpower user had helped him before; he couldn’t just ruthlessly punish her.
It was just half a bag of rice, after all, and he had so many Crystal Cores.
But still… it hurt.
She treated him like a fool.
After that, he didn’t dare to ask others for help.
She just coveted half a bag of rice; what if someone wanted a whole bag and poisoned him?
He gave the wok to that female superpower user and decided not to buy rice anymore.
Hmph.
He’d eat instant noodles.
Instant noodles are so fragrant. Just add some hot water and wait a few minutes. Cooking rice is so much trouble.
If he really wanted to eat rice, he’d just buy self-heating rice meals.
He had plenty of Crystal Cores, after all.
Eating instant noodles and self-heating rice meals every day, he could even afford self-heating hot pots.
“Rice?”
“Yeah, there’s rice for sale upstairs, along with vegetables and noodles. Considering how many of you there are, from the looks of it, you probably don’t have enough Crystal Cores to exchange for much money,” said the Superpower User, noticing their attire and age. “If any of you can cook, you should go upstairs and buy rice and noodles. It’s much more cost-effective than buying instant noodles.”
“After buying, if you have enough money, buy a pot and mooch off the base’s firepit, if not, don’t buy one, and borrow a pot from the base after they distribute the meals,” he said, feeling a bit of pity for them and unusually gabbing more. “But you can’t always borrow for free; you can offer some rice to the person in charge afterward.”
The cooked rice won’t keep well, but uncooked rice is even better.
The person in charge, seeing what they give, won’t give them too hard a time.
“Thank you,” Wang Xin and his group thanked him and then dashed off to find the second floor.
When they climbed up to the second floor, Wang Xin and Ah Qian were a bit dumbfounded; they had only worked on the first floor before and had never been to the second floor, so they didn’t know where the rice was stored.
Fortunately, Wang Xin was quick-witted. He stood by the aisle, waiting for the people coming up behind him, and followed them to find the place where the rice was kept. Hey.
There were really a lot of people.
One after another, they shouldered bags of rice.
Those who came to buy rice had a clear goal. They only bought the cheapest kind and didn’t glance at anything else.
Wang Xin looked at the prices and was surprised to find that buying rice was indeed more cost-effective than buying instant noodles.
One bag of rice could feed them for a long time.
Having bought the rice, they wouldn’t have to bother exchanging with others for something more filling.
“Brother Wang Xin, should we buy a pot?” Their money seemed not quite enough.
What do you think?
