Chapter 36: Chapter 36 Making over Ten Thousand a Day [Extra Chapter, Please Follow]
The old softshell turtle weighed thirteen jin and eight taels, and softshell turtles over ten jin are rarely found in the market, so it’s hard to set a price.
In the end, the price was set by Zhao Xia herself, a lump sum of eight thousand.
Chu Mingcheng had no objections; he was very satisfied with the price. In some parts of the market, wild softshell turtles over five jin could sell for six hundred fifty yuan per jin, but there had to be willing buyers.
The other four turtles each weighed between three and four jin, priced at three hundred fifty yuan per jin, bringing in a total of five thousand.
From the five turtles, Chu Mingcheng earned thirteen thousand, and he suddenly felt making money was so easy.
But he immediately shook his head, dismissing such unrealistic thoughts.
Wild softshell turtles were rare, and his catch today was only because he took advantage of the abandoned pond that no one else was using.
The three Black fish were claimed by three people, totaling eight jin and seven taels, forty-one jin which would normally cost three hundred fifty.
But Chu Mingcheng had earned over ten thousand today and was in a great mood, so he just gave them to these three wealthy customers.
He still had eleven Black fish left, weighing around forty jin, which could also bring in over one thousand five hundred.
Chu Mingcheng then bought two large fish boxes from the fishing gear store, brought them to his parents’ house, and put all the Black fish in them to keep, planning to sell them tomorrow.
Additionally, Black fish are hardy and he didn’t need to provide oxygen.
Little Mi didn’t need to be fed today, as a five to six jin Qiao Zui was enough for it.
Once home, Chu Mingcheng moved all the fishing gear out of the car, took the opportunity to shower, then drove his car to a nearby car wash in town and had it thoroughly cleaned inside and out before walking home for dinner.
Back home, Mr. Chu was busy in the kitchen.
Usually, Mr. Chu didn’t cook much; it was An Xiuwen who did most of it.
But ever since Chu Mingcheng went to high school and boarded there, things at home had changed.
Every time he came home, Mr. Chu would definitely cook once.
The Black fish had already been sliced, and An Xiuwen had even painstakingly removed all the bones from the fish meat with tweezers.
The softshell turtles were kept in a water bucket, seemingly not planned to be cooked today.
Chu Mingcheng was puzzled, “Dad, aren’t you going to butcher the turtles?”
“Where did you fish these turtles from?” Chu Yongxin countered.
“An abandoned pond. What’s wrong?”
“An abandoned pond? No big problem then. Let’s keep them in the water for a couple of days so they can expel the dirt inside them, and they’ll taste better,”
“Expel dirt? Does that mean the turtles are not clean?”
“Wild softshell turtles depend on where they’re fished from. You can’t eat ones from industrial waters, and those from dirty ditches need to be purified for about ten days. Those from an abandoned pond like yours are fine after two or three days,”
This is just like wild tilapia. For instance, tilapia fished from the Ou River are edible, but it’s best not to eat those caught in the county rivers.
“What about the Black fish? Don’t they need to be purged?”
“Black fish don’t have that issue. It’s okay to keep them in clean water, but it’s also fine if you don’t.”
So, Chu Mingcheng quickly took out his phone and sent a message in the group, informing the three about where he had caught the turtles and suggesting they keep them in clean water for two or three days before eating.
After seeing the message, Chen Qing and the others immediately replied, expressing their thanks. But subconsciously, their impression of Chu Mingcheng had improved.
He was an honest man, not out to cheat anyone.
Mr. Chu was serious about dinner tonight too, making sour fish with added pork intestines, which tasted so good that Chu Mingcheng had two bowls of rice.
The dinner was a bit heavy, so he had no choice but to walk around the living room to aid digestion.
Only then did he pick up his phone and realize Jiang Luoluo had actually replied to him that morning, but he hadn’t noticed.
The conversation was nothing more than about how cute Mimi looked while eating, and how much she wanted to pet it.
Then she explained that she went to bed late last night because she was designing new dance moves and hadn’t noticed her phone.
“Then you must take good care of your health, you can always make money, and your fans who like you are willing to wait for your work, but your body is yours, don’t wear it out.”
Chu Mingcheng said this out of concern for his friend, with no other implication.
Although he enjoyed chatting with Jiang Luoluo, after some rational thought, he realized he wasn’t keen on long-distance relationships, thereby temporarily putting out any thoughts of further development with Jiang Luoluo.
It was mealtime, and not more than a minute after he sent his message, Jiang Luoluo replied.
“[Smiling face]Yeah, I understand. I usually take good care of my rest, it’s just that I suddenly got inspired last night, and after I finished, I didn’t even realize it was so late.”
Inspiration, Chu Mingcheng could relate to that. @@novelbin@@
After a little while, seeing that he hadn’t replied, Jiang Luoluo sent another message.
“Now that you are freelancing, have you considered when you might come to Xiamen for a visit? I’ll take you around.”
Jiang Luoluo was not from Xiamen; she was born in Hang City, with her ancestral roots in Su City. They say Suzhou and Hangzhou produce beauties, and she possessed attributes of both, indeed she was beautiful.
During university, she had a bit of fame in the school, and having quite a few fans, she occasionally received some commercial performance offers.
That’s why she rented in Xiamen, because it was close to Treasure Island. Since she had obtained multiple entry permits to Taiwan, entering Taiwan wasn’t limited within the year and wasn’t too troublesome.
“Okay, okay, I’ll cling tightly to the big legs of you, the little rich lady, when the time comes.”
“I’m not a rich lady, I’m just a poor worker. Secretly telling you, Jiayi is the real little rich lady, she has many suitors.”
Hearing this, Chu Mingcheng chuckled and didn’t take the comment seriously.
After chatting for a while, feeling a bit more comfortable in his stomach, he returned to his room to go online and watch fishing videos to learn from others’ fishing experiences.
Since resigning, Chu Mingcheng’s daily routine had also changed.
Having worked all day, he used to treasure the remainder of his evening, unwilling to go to bed before midnight.
Were it not for having to be at the company by eight the next morning, he guessed he could have stayed up until one or two at night.
But now that all the time was his to control, Chu Mingcheng tended to go to bed earlier, even last night he was in bed by ten, and consequently up at six in the morning.
He went out for a run, grabbed breakfast, and picked up something for his still-sleeping parents as well.
By the time he returned home, both parents had gotten up; seeing their son brought breakfast, An Xiuwen expressed, “Suddenly, I feel like my son quitting his job might actually be a good thing.”
“Not only does he know to bring good things home, but he’s also taking care of his health in the mornings and even brings us breakfast.”
“If I had known my son would change like this, I wouldn’t have let him work from the start.”
Chu Yongxin smiled and revealed the truth, “If our son had no income at all now, I see whether you could sit still.”
An Xiuwen, seeing her husband undermine her, was slightly annoyed, “What do you mean I couldn’t sit still? If worst comes to worst, I’d support our son for a lifetime.”
“How would you support him when you’re eighty?”
“You…”
“Let’s not go there, Mom. It hasn’t come to that. You both just enjoy life peacefully, I should be the one to support you when you’re old.” Chu Mingcheng didn’t want to watch anymore and quickly intervened to stop them from continuing their discussion to avoid an argument.
Both were around fifty years old but sometimes acted like children, bickering daily.
Despite being male, Chu Yongxin was sharp-tongued, never losing a verbal battle.
That was all he never lost!
Hearing their son say this, they both calmed down from the verge of losing their tempers.
Chu Yongxin felt a bit regretful and thought, ‘Cool it, I’ve inadvertently dissed my wife again. Coming back from work tonight is going to be tough!’
What do you think?
