Chapter 53: Chapter 53 The effect of deliciousness
Perhaps it was the sea bass king that had used up all of Chu Mingcheng’s luck earlier, because after that, he didn’t come across any big fish. The largest he could catch were sea bass weighing two or three jins, and this was the case at two different spots.
Zhao Jun also had a decent catch. Although there were no large fish, he should still bring in two or three hundred yuan that evening.
However, Zhang Wei and Chen Yang had not lured many fish—just two or three small ones—so they still felt unsatisfied when it was time to head back.
Chu Mingcheng’s two stone breams were bought by Chen Yang at one hundred and fifty yuan per jin, which was a bit cheaper than the market price. The total weight was six jins and six taels, but he only charged nine hundred yuan.
In fact, he had intended to give them away for free, as Chen Yang was prepared to lend him money to buy a boat, at least fifty thousand yuan.
He wasn’t going to charge interest, so giving him the two fish to eat was no big deal!
It was just that Chen Yang adamantly refused to freeload, so Chu Mingcheng reluctantly accepted the nine hundred yuan.
As for the other fish, he originally planned to take them home to keep for a bit, and then sell them at the market the next day. However, Zhao Jun had a group of customers too, quite a few actually, and he had arranged for them to come over at nine o’clock the next morning to buy fish.
In that case, he wouldn’t need to go to the market and could just sell them at the dock.
Heading back home, Chu Mingcheng divided some of the fish from his fishing kit into another box, then added oxygen and closed the kitchen door to prevent Xiao Mi from sneaking in at night to steal fish.
It wasn’t that he forbade eating fish, but he was worried it would bite indiscriminately.
Plus, he had caught about ten stone fish today, which have poisonous fins, and it would be bad if one got stung.
In the end, he weighed the large sea bass, which came to thirty-eight jins and six taels, nearly reaching forty jins.
If sold for 3,888 yuan, Chen Yang’s customer wouldn’t be at a loss.
One night passed…
When Chu Mingcheng woke up to the alarm clock in the early morning, he felt sore all over. The aftereffects of last night’s fishing were kicking in, probably due mainly to the large sea bass.
This condition made running and exercise painful, and it was only after using Life Conversion once that he felt much better.
After getting up for a run and having breakfast, Chu Mingcheng fed Xiao Mi. Then he transferred the fish into his fishing kit, took the oxygen pump and headed out to the dock.
Before he arrived, someone in the group chat @’d him.
He opened the chat to see that it was Zhao Xia who had bought that old turtle from him.
“Ah Cheng, where did you get those sea earthworms you sold me before? They taste fresher than others’.”
“Yesterday, I bought some from another person, and not only were they small, but they also had a muddy, fishy smell.”
“I could have accepted that mud-fishiness, but after having the sea earthworms I got from you, I just can’t swallow any others.”
“So tell me, how should we resolve this issue?”
Reading these messages, Chu Mingcheng was taken aback—his sea earthworms tasted better?
He then looked at his attribute panel and saw that the sea earthworms were level 28 now, with a 28% increase in deliciousness. No wonder Zhao Xia would say that.
He himself had only eaten them once and hadn’t noticed this issue.
It seemed that this deliciousness attribute wasn’t entirely useless; at least it made regular customers more likely.
As for the issue of deliciousness, he wasn’t worried.
Small and skinny fish from a single net have a very different taste and texture compared to bigger ones, with the latter naturally tasting better. Even within the same species, there are differences. It wasn’t strange to people that his caught or farmed seafood tasted better.
This would only make others think that what they buy from him is of high quality.
So he calmly replied, “Sister Zhao, just tell me how many jins you need, and I’ll go dig them up when I have time these next few days.”
Zhao Xia: “Haha, you really get me. I need ten jins for the day after tomorrow, is that okay?”
Chu Mingcheng’s eyebrows raised—so much? Given his current efficiency, that would take at least an entire afternoon! @@novelbin@@
Then two other people in the group piped up.
Chen Qing: “I also want ten jins, but there’s no rush. Take your time, Ah Cheng.”
Wang Hong: “Then I’ll also take ten pounds. Ah Cheng, the sea earthworms you dug up really taste better than the ones I bought before.”
Chu Mingcheng was speechless; he was too busy now—who had the time to go to the mudflats every day? Fishing was more lucrative and relaxing.
“Everyone, I’m now a professional fisherman and am planning to buy a fishing boat to go out to sea soon. I probably only have time to dig up sea earthworms for a bit longer, and it’s highly unlikely that I can supply them in large quantities in the future. Please understand, folks!”
“Ah Cheng is buying a boat? Congratulations! Make sure to let Sister have a first look at any good catch.”
Zhao Xia and Wang Hong were a bit surprised upon hearing this but simply expressed their congratulations.
Chen Qing, however, was intrigued: “Ah Cheng is into fishing now, huh? Do you rent out the boat?”
“I’m not considering renting out the boat for now; I’ll talk about it when I find a few good fishing spots. Brother Chen, if you want to go out to sea, just come to me anytime.”
After chatting for a bit in the group, Chu Mingcheng also arrived at the dock. There was still more than half an hour until nine o’clock, but Zhao Jun had already turned up with his tricycle, and there were a few other people nearby.
He put away his phone, parked the car, and got out, and Zhao Jun and the others were already surrounding him.
Today, Chu Mingcheng only brought sea bass and Black Sea Bream; he left the stone fish at home.
The fish weren’t big, just over three pounds; he planned to take it home for lunch to treat his parents to some fresh seafood.
In terms of taste, stone fish were more delicious than sea bass and Black Sea Bream, but their only flaw was that they were too small.
He caught the most sea bass yesterday, a total of fifteen, with even the smallest ones weighing one pound and five taels, and the largest weighing seven pounds, for a total of fifty-three pounds and eight taels.
All were sold to Zhao Jun’s customers, at market price, and he received a total of 2135 yuan.
A little short of the total—ten or so yuan were shaved off here and there because it wasn’t a single person buying.
There weren’t many Black Sea Bream, just three, selling for a total of 240 yuan.
After getting the money and saying goodbye to Zhao Jun, Chu Mingcheng headed back home, picked up the sea bass and stone fish, and went to town.
First, he stopped by Chen Yang’s place. His parents were out of town, so Chen Yang was leading a very carefree life, sleeping until noon before going to work at the shop with Zhang Wei.
Chu Mingcheng confidently took the elevator up to the fourth floor, then walked into Chen Yang’s bedroom.
“Hrrr snore~”
It was past nine, and the guy was still sound asleep, snoring away.
Seeing this, the corners of Chu Mingcheng’s mouth curled into a mischievous smile. He didn’t disturb Chen Yang, but tiptoed back out, then went to the kitchen to open the freezer.
Inside were top-quality steaks, fish fillets, a variety of ice creams, and even three boxes of Moutai ice cream.
He picked up a box of ice cream but hesitated, feeling that melted ice cream wouldn’t taste good, so he put it back and opened the fresh-keeping compartment.
The fresh-keeping compartment was full of neatly placed beverages, with all sorts of juices, several bottles of mineral water, and cola.
Chu Mingcheng thoughtfully grabbed a bottle of mineral water for Chen Yang in case he was thirsty when he woke up.
He closed the fridge, took the mineral water, and headed back into the room…
“Ahhh~~~~”
A bloodcurdling scream rang out, followed by Chen Yang’s frantic voice, “Damn, I can deal with the ice, but did you really have to put it inside my pajamas and press it down on me?”
Chu Mingcheng was already sitting on the floor, laughing so hard his stomach hurt. He could laugh for a year at that three-second transformation from shivering, to confused, to horrified.
Chen Yang, hair a mess, sat on the bed glaring fiercely at Chu Mingcheng, next to the bottle of mineral water that had instantly woken him up.
“I’ll remember this. You’d better not let me catch you because next time, I’ll definitely use something big!”
“Anytime, welcome!” Chu Mingcheng wasn’t the least bit scared; his home didn’t have a password lock, and besides, he wasn’t one to oversleep anymore.
Chen Yang’s eye twitched. For now, he really couldn’t get back at Chu Mingcheng and could only ask irritably, “Alright, out with it. What did you come here for?”
Chu Mingcheng spread his hands: “I’m here to deliver fish. Isn’t your customer supposed to pick it up today?”
“…Damn it, I wouldn’t have referred a customer to you if I knew!” Chen Yang’s face was full of regret and he cursed his luck!
What do you think?
