Chapter 75: The Uncanny Scholar
As Liang Yifei prepared to depart, an echoing voice reverberated in his mind, bringing him to a halt. His bloodline stirred within him, resonating with an enigmatic power. It felt as though a beckoning presence was reaching out to him, impossible to ignore.
Compelled by this mysterious force, he swiftly turned back and approached the aperture he had created. With each step closer, the voice grew louder and clearer, urging him to venture forth.
A fusion of curiosity and caution surged through him, yet he resisted the temptation to return and investigate. The timing seemed improper, and he had other pressing objectives to prioritize. Moreover, he couldn't shake the feeling that this call harbored potential dangers, requiring thorough preparations before delving further.
With a resolute shake of his head, he soared amidst the barren expanse of the desert. For five arduous days, he deftly maneuvered the treacherous terrain of shifting sand dunes and endured the scorching blaze of incessant heat.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the sanctum came into view.
Entering the sanctum, he found himself once again standing before the four imposing doors. His gaze instinctively gravitated towards the record hall, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.
With his mastery over the void qi, forcefully entering the record hall was not beyond his capabilities. However, doing so would undoubtedly raise the alarm within the legion, and he was not yet ready to provoke a fallout with them, especially since he was not prepared for the potential consequences.
As his gaze wandered, another door seized his attention—the sutras door. Its intricately carved designs exuded an aura of ancient wisdom and intellectual allure.
With a smile, Liang retrieved his badge from his robe and approached the door. The intricate designs etched on its surface seemed to come alive as he carefully inserted his badge into the designated slot. Instantly the door responded, swinging open with a grandeur befitting the ancient wisdom it housed.
As he stepped through the threshold, Liang entered a breathtaking expanse—an immense library stretching as far as the eye could see. The sutras hall unfolded before him, its seven floors reaching towards the heavens, each level stacked high with jade scrolls and ancient scriptures.
The air within the hall carried a serene ambiance, filled with the faint scent of aged paper and the hushed whispers of knowledge. Soft rays of sunlight filtered through stained glass windows, casting ethereal patterns on the polished marble floors.
Liang's gaze swept across the vast space, taking in the multitude of shelves and meandering corridors that seamlessly merged into the timeless expanse.
Liang Yifei's gaze wandered through the magnificent sutras hall, filled with awe and wonder. As he navigated the meandering corridors, his eyes caught sight of an ordinary young scholar, tucked away in a quiet corner.
The scholar appeared unassuming, dressed in simple robes, displaying no outward signs of extraordinary cultivation or profound knowledge. His expression was one of serene focus, engrossed in the pages of an ancient text resting on his lap.
Though his features were nondescript, there was an undeniable air of tranquility and wisdom surrounding him. His eyes, deep and thoughtful, seemed to hold a depth of understanding that belied his youthful appearance.
Liang noticed the scholar's hands, calloused and weathered as if they had traversed countless scrolls and embraced countless hours of diligent study. A faint smile played upon the young scholar's lips as if he had stumbled upon a hidden treasure within the realm of knowledge.
The scholar carefully folds the book in his hands, displaying a practiced motion that shows his familiarity with the ancient text. As the pages fall seamlessly into place, he raises his head to meet Liang Yifei's gaze.
With a slight tilt of his head, the scholar studies him for a moment before a wry smile dances at the corners of his lips. "Ah, a new member," he says, his voice carrying a hint of amusement. "It's quite interesting to see two arrive in such rapid succession."
His tone, tinged with a hint of haughtiness, exudes intrigue and curiosity. The scholar's gaze, sharp and penetrating, seems to penetrate beyond Liang's exterior, carefully assessing his potential.
The scholar's voice, rich with knowledge and authority. "Hmm, not bad," he remarked, his eyes flickering with a mixture of admiration and reservation. "Your physical body is in good shape, nearly at the middle stage of dao integration, despite having just breakthrough and your cultivation at the initial stage of dao integration."
Liang Yifei, adept at concealing his emotions, maintained a poker face, though internally he cursed his luck once again. It seemed as if each guardian he encountered was more annoying than the last.
Putting his slender finger to his lips, the scholar smiled, revealing a glint of anticipation in his eyes. "Good. Little brother, " he addressed Liang with an air of familiarity, "you possess an interesting bloodline here."
Surprise flickered momentarily through Liang's eyes upon hearing this remark.
The scholar closed one eye, as if to shut out distractions, and gazed upward, lost in deep thought. " Strange," he murmured contemplatively. "I have never witnessed such a powerful serpent bloodline before."
Liang's heart sank at these words, feeling a sense of trepidation creeping over him. Yet, he managed to keep his expression impassive.
With a ponderous tone, the scholar mused aloud as if lost in his own musings, "Could this be a hybrid species, Between a netherworld serpent and a void dragon?" His voice carries a hint of excitement, tinged with scholarly fascination. "Fascinating!"
Liang, desperate to maintain his composure amidst the scholar's astute observations, silently hoped that his unique bloodline wouldn't attract any unwanted attention.
The scholar chuckled, seemingly able to perceive Liang Yifei's thoughts. "Don't fret, Little brother," he reassured. "Rest assured, This exalted scholar is well versed in the art of secrecy. Moreover, while I acknowledge the uniqueness of your bloodline, I have come across more formidable lineages before. Therefore, in my eyes, it may not be particularly exceptional."
What do you think?
