Chapter 85: Mortality or Immortality
After learning about the Sin Devils, Liang for some reason chose the Unholy Soul Refining Scripture as his main soul cultivation method. However, he also recognized the value of the other two techniques and decided to study and integrate them into his own techniques. He believed that by successfully combining these techniques, he could reach new heights in his abilities.
Liang planned to integrate the Soulfire Incantation into his Infernal Void Flame Art, the soulfire would probably help him in cultivating the third stage of Infernal Void Flame Art-Flame Fusion.
Likewise, he intended to incorporate the Shadow Essence Veil into the shadow techniques of the Oblivion Sword Manual, using it to deepen the shadows' concealment and deception.
After organizing his thoughts, Liang resolved to proceed to the third floor. As he ascended, he soon stood before two imposing gates—one white and one black. According to the jade slip he had obtained from the scholar Fan, the third floor was unlike any other, known as the Inheritance Chamber. Each member could only enter this chamber once, and its contents remained a mystery.
The jade slip only mentioned the existence of the two doors, providing no further details. The white door was referred to as the Gate of Immortality, while the black door was called the Gate of Mortality.
Considering the weight of his choices, Liang paused for a moment in contemplation. He understood the significance that lay behind his choice, especially considering that each member could only enter once.
"Mortality or immortality," he whispered to himself.
The Mortal Ascension Legion's beliefs leaned towards mortal existence, deeming it of great importance. However, it's association with the black door also engendered a sense of discomfort.
"Why am I overthinking this? The Legion's ideas can go to hell," he scoffed and with a sneer, he confidently pushed open the white door.
As Liang stepped through the white door, a sense of tranquility washed over him, he found himself standing in a vast, dimly lit chamber. The walls were painted in an inky black color, and at the center of the chamber stood a massive stone wall adorned with a myriad of strange symbols.
Intrigued, Liang approached the wall, his gaze fixated on the mesmerizing symbols etched into its surface. They seemed to pulsate with an otherworldly energy, drawing him closer with an irresistible allure.
He spread his void sense to examine the whole chamber. relieved to discover no apparent abnormalities. He cautiously extended his hand and brushed his fingertips against the cold stone wall, tracing the intricate symbols etched upon it. He sensed a subtle tremor resonating beneath his touch. As he did so, the room began to quiver and shake, the symbols lighting up with an eerie black glow.
Suddenly Liang Yifei shut his eyes, surrendering to an incoming surge of information that flooded his mind.
Soon enough, the symbols and chamber resumed their dormant and tranquil state, as if undisturbed.
As Liang Yifei reopened his eyes, a tinge of bitterness momentarily flickered across his gaze, followed by an outburst of loud laughter that resonated throughout the small and narrow chamber.
Taking a deep breath, Liang composed himself and let out a sigh. "It seems like everything that eccentric woman said was true after all," he muttered under his breath.
"Well, now I understand how she discovered my recent advancement," he said with a sneer.
Contrary to its name, the inheritance didn't come with any specific techniques or manuals. It solely contained information.
According to the inheritance, there were three distinct paths to Ascension.
The first path, the most common one, involves ascending to the upper domain. However, in the current era, due to the Law cleansing, this method has lost its appeal. With only a 5% success rate for the Law cleansing process, no one would willingly choose this path. Moreover, even if one succeeds, they would be bound by a ten thousand-year servitude, paying for what is known as the ascension pond.
The ascension ponds are unique locations that possess a high concentration of Origin Qi.
By spending time in these ponds, cultivators undergo a process called Qi Transformation.
During this transformation, all the Qi existing within a cultivator's body is converted into Origin Qi.
Once all the Qi has been converted, the cultivator obtains an Origin Mark, which replaces the vacant positions left by the Dao Marks after the cleansing process.
Upon reaching the Dao Integration Realm, every cultivator would obtain law marks corresponding to the type of law they practiced. Regular cultivators in the lower domain would typically acquire five hundred Dao marks upon their breakthrough to the Dao Integration, However, in peak stages, the common number stood at three thousand marks.
Not only did these marks determine a cultivator's power, but they also indicated their level of comprehension and understanding of their respective laws. The more Dao marks a cultivator possessed, the stronger they became, and their comprehension of their chosen law grew deeper.
The second path available to cultivators is through the Empyrean Nexus, The third and the Highest Plane in the Qi Empyrean Realm. Within the depths of the Empyrean Nexus lies a cosmic road that leads to yet another upper domain, known as the Empyrean Heaven.
Cosmic Roads refer to extraordinary pathways that intricately interconnect multiple distinct domains across the vast expanse.
The cosmic road in the Empyrean Nexus is a new one, manifested one million years ago, providing cultivators with an alternative path instead of ascending directly to the Origin Heaven Domain, which is connected to the lower domain.
Ascending to the Empyrean Heaven, however, still necessitates undergoing a Law Cleansing process. Although similar to the process in the Origin Heaven Domain, the Law Cleansing in the Empyrean Heaven possesses a striking advantage. Thanks to the inherent similarities between the Empyrean and Dao Systems, the success rate of Law Cleansing here reaches a remarkable eighty percent.
This higher success rate offers cultivators a glimmer of hope and a greater chance of safely completing the Law Cleansing. It increases the likelihood of seamlessly transitioning from the lower domain to the Empyrean Heaven, where cultivators will experience the next stage of their cultivation journey.
"With the current state of affairs, it seems like the Dao has become a broken system," Liang remarked, his tone laced with mockery. "Unless..."
What do you think?
