Chapter 848: Chapter 845: The Final Voyage Plan

After bringing all the new luggage to the living room, Heidi went to the dining table and looked absent-mindedly at Maurice sitting across from her.

She hadn’t seen her father for a long time—although they could still occasionally get in touch, but even that intermittent contact seemed to have been a thing of the past.

Her father’s sudden return home felt like a dream to her, unreal.

Maurice sat at the dining table, unhurriedly eating the freshly fried sausages and bread, chewing each bite thoroughly. After a while, he looked up at his wife sitting beside him and his daughter across the table, with a smile on his face: “I haven’t had home-cooked food in a long time.”

“There’s more if you’re still hungry, but after this meal, we need to go out,” his wife said with a smile, as if it was like the old days when the couple would discuss taking a walk in the park after lunch, “We are heading to the nearest shelter to check in—the neighborhood is getting more and more unsettled, those bewildered people… are looking less and less human.”

“They’ve lost their self-awareness, and this world is also gradually forgetting what ‘humans’ look like, resulting in them becoming like that,” Maurice said calmly, “The keystones and anchors laid down by the gods are quickly losing effectiveness, and those who haven’t awakened will drift further from ‘normal’ over time… yet in their own ‘feeling,’ nothing has ever changed.”

Heidi’s face showed a hint of sorrow: “…Is there no hope left?”

“Don’t worry about them, Heidi,” her father simply smiled and shook his head across the table, “It’s all temporary, things will get better. The captain is working out a plan—I’ve returned to the City-State early as part of his grand scheme.”

“…It seems you’ve been through a lot outside,” Heidi hesitated before speaking out, “Has everyone else returned too? Has Fenna come back?”
