Chapter 128 128: Breaking 100 Million!
Buying a piece of equipment for 10 million—this is hard for most people to comprehend. Can it cure diseases or help with fitness? Spending that much money on a piece of data seems almost impossible to imagine.
But for those in the know, getting the Dark Gold Grade war hammer for just 10 million would be a massive steal.
Unfortunately, for most, that's not feasible.
As soon as Sophie announced the starting price of 10 million, Drake immediately raised the bid by a substantial amount: "20 million!"
The guild leader beside him rolled his eyes.
"What's so impressive about having money? Just because you've got it, you think you can jack up the price like that?"
The leader muttered, frustrated, but then entered his own bid: "Fine, I'll raise it a little—25 million."
This guy was also a warrior, specializing in dealing damage. If he could get his hands on this war hammer, it would really give him an edge in leading his guild through boss fights. In fact, even the bosses he'd previously avoided, he now felt confident taking on.
But at 25 million, securing the Dark Gold Grade weapon seemed unrealistic.
The price shot up even faster than before, soon surpassing 40 million, higher than the previous Gold Grade skill book.
Tristan couldn't help but be impressed.
At this rate, he was on track to make over 100 million from this auction alone. And this was just the third day since the game launched. Making 100 million in three days was almost like printing money.
But to Tristan, it felt completely normal. Enjoy exclusive adventures from My Virtual Library Empire
Even late into the ExoGenesis game, most players' gear was still Bronze or Silver Grade, and buying Gold Grade gear required saving up or some serious luck. Dark Gold Grade gear, though, was still reserved for the top-tier players.
Without Tristan's intervention, those two Dark Gold Grade bosses might never have been slain. Against the overwhelming power of those bosses, even having tons of regular players wouldn't make a difference.
As Tristan was thinking, the auction was reaching its peak. The price kept rising, breaking 60 million.
At this point, the guild leaders became more cautious in their bids, raising the price in smaller increments, usually by 500k or 1 million.
The auction had come down to the last three bidders: Drake and two other guild leaders.
The leader of Mystic Realm, Silent Mystic, spoke up: "Drake, you've already won two Gold Grade items. You're a tank, but let me have this war hammer."
Drake responded slowly: "You're mistaken. While I'm a tank, I also have an output-oriented side. Windflower Guild Leader, I won't back down on this."
He raised the price: "63 million."
The leader of Blue Party, BlueMan, seemed intrigued: "Drake, how much money did you bring to the auction? Are you going to leave any opportunities for us smaller guilds?"
Drake laughed: "Guild Leader BlueMan, don't be so modest. Blue Party has over 3,000 members. If that's considered a small guild, what does that make those with only a few hundred members?"
BlueMan took it as a compliment. He had started from scratch and was proud of how he'd built Blue Party up, though he knew they were still a step behind IFA.
Appreciating the acknowledgment, BlueMan thought for a moment and then said: "Drake, if you really want this weapon, I'll bow out. It's all yours."
BlueMan himself was a mage, and the reason he'd bid on the war hammer was to give it to his vice-leader. But seeing that Drake was so determined, BlueMan decided to step aside as a favor.
Drake thanked him, a little surprised at how smoothly that went.
Even though Drake wasn't afraid of a longer bidding war, he knew he couldn't act ungrateful.
With BlueMan withdrawing, only Drake and Silent Mystic remained in the running for the Bone Crusher's War Hammer.
Silent Mystic was a female player, and she was known for being quite cute. She decided to try a more personal approach, her voice dripping with sweetness: "Drake, why don't you let me have this weapon, hmm?"
Drake stood firm, unmoving, not even giving her a second glance.
"Three lines of words won't make me back down," he thought.
Besides, to Drake, Silent Mystic didn't even meet the standard for "beautiful enough" to make this tactic work.
"Maybe if it were someone like NightStalker, I might consider it," he thought to himself.
Silent Mystic fumed with frustration.
This stubborn man had no interest in charm. She shot back angrily: "64 million."
The battle for the hammer raged on, but in the end, Drake won with a final bid of 70 million.
With the sound of Sophie's gavel hitting the floor, the auction officially passed the 100 million mark in total revenue for Tristan's event.
And the night was far from over.
There was still one last Dark Gold Grade item up for grabs.
Tristan did have two Bloodline Factors in his inventory, but he decided not to auction them off this time.
On the one hand, with two Dark Gold Grade items already on the table, the auction had already garnered a lot of attention. On the other hand, he wanted to keep a couple of Dark Gold Grade Bloodline Factors as "store treasures" for his shop. Those items would surely attract players, even if they couldn't afford them.
That way, he could draw in customers, and over time, increase his chances of acquiring useful items for his business.
It was a win-win.
After the auction, Tristan planned to hire some professional NPCs to run the shop and handle the daily business, including buying and selling lower-tier equipment. But for the top-tier items, he'd still hold auctions regularly, making sure to sell them for the highest prices.
As he was considering this, Sophie began the auction for the final item of the night.
Tidebreaker Heavy Helm: Dark Gold Grade
Defense: +1000 Health: +3000 Stamina: +150 Level Requirement: 25 Strength Requirement: > 300
Special Effects:
Solid: +2000 Defense Stable: Immune to Knockback Effects
With high defense stats, this helm could turn any main tank into an unbreakable wall, making it the centerpiece of any elite team.
When the guild leaders saw this piece of equipment, they all grew serious.@@novelbin@@
Whether in small parties or full-scale raids, the main tank was always the backbone of the team. If the main tank could hold up, even the toughest bosses could be worn down. But if the tank fell, the rest of the fragile classes would be doomed.
Without exaggeration, this helm's value far surpassed that of the Bone Crusher's War Hammer!
The war hammer could make one powerful output player, but the Tidebreaker Heavy Helm could form an elite squad centered around a tank!
That was the difference!
