Chapter 294 Uninvited Guest
By this time, the arena was already filled with people, and the noise was deafening.
On both sides of the arena stood two enormous leaderboards.
The leaderboards had names listed on them, each followed by a number, which were the Battle Points obtained from collecting Divine Soul Fragments in the Refining Spirit Valley yesterday.
Qinchuan glanced at the leaderboard on the right and found his name at the top with an impressive score of 5,100 points, while the second place was held by Chi Ren, the Second Elder, with merely 1,005 points, a gap of 4,000 points. The other elders had scores ranging between six hundred and one thousand, all differing from each other.
Only Shi Hun, the Third Elder, having been expelled early from the Divine Valley by Qinchuan, hung at the last place with just 400 points.
"Who is this Qinchuan? How can he be so fierce?"
Many disciples had never heard of Qinchuan's name and were curious when they saw it high up on the leaderboard.
"You don't know? Qinchuan is the newly appointed Supreme Elder of our sect."
"Supreme Elder, no wonder he managed to score five thousand points; he must be at least at the Supreme Saint Late Stage, when would I ever reach such a realm!" a disciple sighed to the sky.
Another disciple glanced at him, pursed his lips, and said, "You're currently at the First Layer of the Spirit Martial Realm. To reach the realm of our Supreme Elder, you'll still need to regress one Realm."
"What… what do you mean?" The disciple was full of confusion, not understanding what his senior meant, and then it dawned on him, "You mean our Supreme Elder is only at the Ninth Layer of the Meridian Opening Realm?"
The disciple nodded, "That's right, I saw it with my own eyes yesterday, Meridian Opening Ninth Layer Realm."
"Cut it out, how is that possible…"
A group of disciples around sneered and ignored him further.
The leaderboard on the left was for disciples, with one named Xiao Qing ranking first with a surprising score of eight hundred points, even higher than many elders.
According to Jiang Yan, Xiao Qing was the previous generation's Saint Heir, whose strength had already reached the Dragon Transformation Realm Peak, just a step away from the Holy's Realm.
Yu Chiye's name was second on the list, with a score reaching five hundred and fifty points.
It seemed that being able to sit in the position of the Saint Heir of the Burning Heaven Sect was not without merit.
Among these disciples' names, Qinchuan also found a familiar one, Lei Heng, who ranked ninth.
And Zhong Yun, whom he had teased with a few words the other day, was ranked eleventh.
Huang Tian, who practiced the Descending Dragon Subduing Tiger Fist, was in last place on the leaderboard, with only a mere ten points.
Qinchuan, however, was not at all surprised; on one hand, Huang Tian's realm was weak, and it was already quite an achievement to make it into the top hundred. On the other hand, Huang Tian's Divine Sense was damaged, making collecting Divine Soul Fragments much more difficult than for the average disciple.
Beyond that, Qinchuan did not recognize anyone else.
Just as Qinchuan was looking at the leaderboard, more and more people arrived at the square, and nearly all disciples and elders were present.
In front of the arena, Chi Shan and the other elders of the Burning Heaven Sect had also arrived, standing on the elevated stage.
"Today is the once-in-a-decade sect competition. Unlike previous years, this year there is an added competition for the elders, and the rewards are also more generous than in past years. Therefore, to ensure relative fairness, this year's matches require both fighters to suppress their strength to the same Realm," Chi Shan's voice carried down from the elevated front stage.
Below the arena, the hundred disciples who had reached the finals, along with most of the elders, were all boiling with excitement.
In past sect competitions, there was never a rule for contests within the same realm. The sects adhered to the belief that strength is also a part of talent, allowing all disciples to compete together.
However, the rewards for past sect competitions were not excessively heaven-defying, so there weren't many who found this inappropriate.
Therefore, in previous competitions, although there were rare cases of successful challenges across levels, these were few and far between, mostly dominated by disciples above the Life Spring Realm.
Why the Life Spring Realm? Because all disciples above this realm were without exception direct disciples of elders or protectors within the sect, thus competing further had no meaning.
But this year was different, due to the draw of the Fusang fruit, not only did elders and their direct disciples participate in the competition, but even former Saint Heirs joined. Hence, the scope of this year's competition was wide, covering from the Dragon Transformation Realm down to the Spirit Martial Realm, a large span indeed.
Though the battles were restrained within the same realm, there still existed the suppression of the Dao Heart and the Soul, but if one had a sufficiently strong Dao Heart, even challenging several levels higher was not impossible.
Only Shi Hun watched Chi Shan with burning eyes, vehemently thinking, "So what if you suppress the realms? Today, I will avenge yesterday's humiliation."
In his heart, Chi Shan's last-minute rule change must have been because of Qinchuan, who was only in the Meridian Opening Realm.
Then, Chi Shan proceeded to announce the remaining rules of this competition.
The rules for transfer of battle points remained the same as previous years.
Within each group, every disciple could freely challenge others regardless of ranking, and the challenged party could not refuse.
The victor would obtain half of the loser's points, and once victorious, could not challenge the loser again.
Each person had a total of ten opportunities to initiate challenges, with only three chances to fail. After three failed challenges, you could not challenge others, but others could still challenge you.
This meant that, as the initiator of a challenge, if you failed three times, regardless of whether you used up your ten opportunities to challenge, you would not be able to issue more challenges.
After Chi Shan had declared all the rules of the competition, just as he was about to announce the start, suddenly a Divine Rainbow shot through the distance.
Falling before Chi Shan was a guard in blue robes who said, "Sect Leader, people from the Heavenly Sword Sect and the Red Blood Sword Sect have arrived."
With Qinchuan's reminder, Chi Shan had anticipated this, but the elders behind him frowned and wondered, "What are people from the Heavenly Sword Sect and the Red Blood Sword Sect here for?"
The Heavenly Sword Sect and the Burning Heaven Sect were both one of the four great powers of the Tianyuan Nation, and their relationship was not really good. The Red Blood Sword Sect, being a sword sect like the Heavenly Sword Sect, had a better relationship, thus they had no interactions with the Burning Heaven Sect.
Knowing that people from both the Heavenly Sword Sect and the Red Blood Sword Sect had arrived, the elders couldn't help but feel puzzled, sensing that something ominous might be unfolding.
"Who has come, and how strong are they?"@@novelbin@@
The Seventh Elder, Chi Qing, asked.
"The leader from the Heavenly Sword Sect is Ye He, and from the Red Blood Sword Sect, it's Wu Dong. There are a total of two Saints, one Great Saint in the early stage, and several disciples, plus..."
The guardian paused at this point.
"Plus what?" Chi Qing pressed with a frown.

"There's also an old man, whose aura is concealed and his realm is indiscernible!"
Upon hearing this, the elders all felt a stir in their hearts, "This guardian is at the Holy's Realm, and even he can't see through the strength of the newcomers. It's likely that the visitor has reached the Supreme Saint, or at the very least, the peak of Great Saint Realm."
Now with the Burning Heaven Sect hosting their decennial sect competition, and the sudden visit of two major sword sects, what could this mean?
"They said they heard our Burning Heaven Sect was holding our once-a-decade sect competition, which has also added a competition for the elders. They mentioned that our three sects are neighbors and ought to interact more often. So they brought a few elders and disciples to participate in the competition,"
the guardian replied.
What do you think?
