Chapter 458: Chapter 429: Arriving at Chittagong, Unable to Go Ashore
“There are so many huge ships over there; it looks really busy.”
Gu Yu was woken up by Lin Xinyue’s voice. As soon as he opened his eyes, he saw her leaning on the balcony railing, her slender figure faintly visible beneath her silk pajamas.
“What time is it?”
Gu Yu squinted and asked in a hoarse voice.
Lin Xinyue turned her head, gave him a seductive glance, and said, “Get up already! It’s already 6:30 in the morning, and it seems like we’ve arrived at Chittagong.”
“That fast?” Hearing that they had arrived at Chittagong, Gu Yu rolled out of bed.
He ran barefoot to the balcony.
Indeed, he saw the busy port in the distance, with hundreds of massive cargo ships crisscrossing, and Chittagong seemed like a colossal beast perched along the coastline, swallowing and spitting out giant vessels.
“It really is spectacular…” Gu Yu wrapped an arm around Lin Xinyue’s waist, looking curiously at this busy port ranked in the top hundred in the world.
But as he watched, a sudden question arose in his heart.
Ark didn’t seem to be moving at all!
From this position, they were quite far from the port. Why wasn’t Ark docking?
No berth available? Or maybe the port’s depth was insufficient, and they could only stop here?
Should a tender boat be coming soon to pick them up?
With this thought, he turned around and urged Lin Xinyue, “We should be going ashore soon. Shall we pack up our things?”
Lin Xinyue nodded and started rummaging through the locker for the various trinkets she had bought in Xiangjiang.
“I really didn’t expect you to buy even baby bottles.” Gu Yu was brushing his shoes at the washbasin, watching her take out several baby bottles from the locker and put them into the suitcase.
Lin Xinyue: “What do you know? This is called being meticulous! Being fully prepared!”
She bit her pearly teeth and gave Gu Yu a glare, obviously not very keen on discussing the topic with him.
Gu Yu shrugged; he thought Lin Xinyue had great potential for raising children.
Another half hour passed, and their things were essentially ready. It was also past seven.
“We shouldn’t be eating on the ship today, right?” Gu Yu glanced at the time. It was the usual breakfast time, and normally Chittagong should have already arranged breakfast for their group of visitors from afar.
They just waited for the tender boat to come pick them up.
Just as Gu Yu was imagining what the Bangladeshi delicacies might taste like, there came a knock on the door.
“They must be here to notify us to disembark,” said Gu Yu with a smile to Lin Xinyue as he went to open the door.
Upon opening, it turned out to be Ge Zhengxiang.
He looked Gu Yu up and down: “Morning, looking energetic, seems you slept well last night.”
“Yeah, I went to bed as soon as I got back, but you don’t seem very energetic. Surely not? I didn’t hit too hard, did I?”
Gu Yu nodded, eyeing Ge Zhengxiang’s face in return.
He noticed that Ge’s features were visibly tired, and his eyes were somewhat swollen, appearing as though he hadn’t slept all night.
Gu Yu thought he might have been too rough the previous night, affecting Ge Zhengxiang’s sleep.
But Ge Zhengxiang quickly shook his head: “No, how could some superficial wounds affect my sleep? I’ve been on missions in the rainforest before, where I slept just fine even with a broken hand.”
He grinned, and the years of toughening up had made his nerves incredibly resilient.
“Just had to stand guard last night, so I’m a bit tired, but it’s all good,” he explained.
“Oh, so will you be disembarking with us later, or do you need to rest a bit?” Gu Yu nodded, genuinely admiring Ge Zhengxiang’s experiences.
Hearing Gu Yu’s words, Ge Zhengxiang was taken aback, “Disembark? Who said that?”
He looked utterly confused, he hadn’t received such a notice. Where did Gu Yu get this news?
Seeing the puzzled look on Ge Zhengxiang’s face, Gu Yu was also stunned, “Not disembarking? Aren’t we already at Chittagong? Isn’t the refugee camp over there waiting for us to help? Hasn’t anyone come to pick us up?”
This was very unreasonable!
They had come to provide assistance, so why were they all still on the ship?
“Yes, we have arrived at Chittagong, but right now there are no barges to pick us up, we are still in the queue,”
Ge Zhengxiang nodded, revealing the truth of the situation.
“In queue? How long?” Gu Yu frowned, they were invited to save people, and now they had to queue at the port? Wasn’t that preposterous?
Under such circumstances, it really could be said that time was life, and every moment, people in the refugee camp were enduring the torment of illness.
Shouldn’t there be a special channel opened in advance on this side?
“Hmm, three days. Right now, all the barges at Chittagong are fully occupied, and there are also nearly three hundred ships ahead of us in line,”
“Based on the usual queuing speed, at the very least it would take two days, typically three days.”
As Ge Zhengxiang spoke, his expression also showed some confusion.
This really didn’t make sense; they weren’t just any regular cargo or cruise ship, the Ark was an international medical ship. Even if they weren’t coming to save people, they should have had a reception channel opened in advance!
But he didn’t know what the people at Chittagong were thinking.
“Three days… Isn’t the black bone disease currently rampant in the refugee camp? What if an epidemic breaks out during this time?”
This was the first time Gu Yu had seen an epidemic situation where time was being dragged out like this.
If not managed properly, Bangladesh might suffer as a nation, given the country’s climate and population density are practically a paradise for contagious diseases.
“Alas, who knows what they’re thinking, for now we just wait,” Ge Zhengxiang sighed, then waved Gu Yu over, “Come on, let’s go have breakfast. Once we land, I think you might not be too fond of the local flavors here.”
“Hahaha, I haven’t even set foot on land yet, and you’re already shattering my illusions about the local food,” Gu Yu laughed helplessly. Since Ge Zhengxiang mentioned it that way, the food probably was not worth looking forward to.
“Ah… Half of the joy of the journey just vanished,”
Lin Xinyue, unbeknownst to them, had arrived behind Gu Yu, and said with a tone of regret,@@novelbin@@
“You little foodie. We didn’t come here to sample the cuisine; we are here to treat the sick and save lives!”
Gu Yu turned around and pinched her face.
“Mhm, mhm, I know!” Lin Xinyue nodded. Of course, she didn’t take it as a mere trip. Last night, when she and Gu Yu were talking late into the night, they had analyzed many of the dangers involved.
“Sigh! I shouldn’t have come over to call you guys for breakfast. I haven’t even eaten yet, and I’m already full on your lovey-dovey act!”
Seeing the couple’s intimate display, Ge Zhengxiang suddenly felt envious.
Having a fiancée as beautiful as a flower truly did make others jealous!
“Haha, come on, come on! Let’s go have breakfast,” Gu Yu withdrew his hand, toned it down a bit, and started shoving Ge Zhengxiang to lead the way.
Just at this moment, the door to the next cabin also opened.
Dressed in a brownish-red long-sleeve shirt and pants, with a slender belt around her waist, Wu Shaohan walked out.
“Good morning, the three of you,”
He raised his hand, and with a gesture as graceful as strumming the strings of a harp, greeted the three of them.
“What a coincidence, let’s go, join us for breakfast.”
Already aware of Wu Shaohan’s character, Gu Yu generously invited him to join them for breakfast.
