Chapter 462: Chapter 432 Chittagong (Part 2)

“I think I need to reconsider the frequency of our future cooperation,”

As Luo KaiXuan looked at Karen’s awkwardly smiling face, there wasn’t a trace of a smile on his own.

They say the visitor is a guest, but he was far from satisfied with their hospitality.

“I’m really sorry, Luo, we didn’t consider everything properly this time, and the port is also under a lot of pressure,”

Karen’s face showed remorse as she looked towards the Port Authority Director Peroda.

Peroda nodded and took over the conversation, “Yes, Luo, we hope you can understand us…”

His gaze shifted towards a cargo ship berth not far from here, where a large Eagle Flag was emblazoned at the bow.

“Hmph, if it wasn’t for the fact that I took into account the pressure you’re under, the Ark would have already turned around and left,” Luo KaiXuan’s expression softened slightly.

He, of course, knew that Peroda and his people wouldn’t create trouble for no reason.

From Peroda’s perspective, he had simply done what was best for their port.

In the end, the instigator was the brash and domineering Eagle Country.

“I’m truly sorry, please give us the chance to make it up to you,”

Karen bowed slightly, her face full of apologies as she spoke.

“There’s no need for that, just treat us normally as before, we don’t press others with our power, Karen, as you know, we never use our position to pressure others, we are equals,”

Luo KaiXuan waved his hand, his expression becoming much more relaxed.

He had achieved his goal, which was simply to let the other side know that Huaxia was angry about this matter.

“I understand what you mean, Luo, thank you!”

Karen’s tense expression eased a bit. She reached out for a handshake with Luo KaiXuan, a friendly smile returning to her face.

“Yes, we are still friends.”

A smile also appeared on Luo KaiXuan’s face as he reached out and gently shook hands with Karen.

Then he shook hands with the other two individuals in turn.

The conflict resolved, everyone headed towards the shuttle bus stop at Karen’s invitation.

“The hotel arranged for you this time is Radisson Blu Chattogram Bay View, we hope you can accept it. If there are any other requirements, we will do our best to accommodate you,”

Standing beside the shuttle bus, Karen looked past Luo KaiXuan towards Gu Yu and the others.

“How is this hotel?”

Unfamiliar with the place, Gu Yu leaned forward and asked Ge Zhengxiang.

“I don’t know, when we previously came here for missions, our stays in the city were always quite short,”

Ge Zhengxiang, cleaning the handle of his gun, shook his head.

“Then do you know, Wu?”

Gu Yu turned to Wu Shaohan, who was applying lipstick with a nonchalant air, using a small mirror.

He suddenly felt calling him ‘Wu’ was not fitting, perhaps ‘Sister Shaohan’ would be more appropriate…

“Oh my, RBC? That’s the best hotel in Chittagong!”

Upon hearing Gu Yu’s question, Wu Shaohan put away his small mirror, surprise etching his face as he spoke.

“The best? It seems they’re quite sincere!”

Gu Yu nodded, acknowledging their considerable sincerity.

“Yu, stop daydreaming, get on the bus,” Just as Gu Yu was talking to himself, Lin Xinyue suddenly pulled on his sleeve.

He looked up to find that the people ahead were already boarding the bus.

Meanwhile, Luo KaiXuan and Karen got into a black sedan, and Old Dai and the others didn’t board the shuttle bus but took a seven-seater van instead.

It seemed that seating was arranged according to status.

“Gogogo!” Ge Zhengxiang suddenly shouted, urging Gu Yu and the others onto the shuttle bus.

Meanwhile, he stayed to keep watch with the captain’s team.

Everyone quickly got on the bus and found their seats.

The combat team responsible for protection was the last to board.

The shuttle bus departed, led by two teams of armed motorcyclists, quickly leaving the port.

As the port gates gradually disappeared behind them and they passed through the highway, buildings outside the window started packing closer together and the skyscrapers reached higher, Gu Yu got his first glimpse of Chittagong City, this portside metropolis.

“This city is the second most populous in Bangladesh, with over seven million people,”

No sooner had Wu Shaohan taken his seat than he took out his little mirror and busied himself with touching up his makeup.

Yet, he began to introduce the city to Gu Yu and Lin Xinyue and the others.

“Over seven million! That’s almost a third of Modu, close to the population of Huaxia Jinling City!”

In Gu Yu’s mind, Bangladesh was supposed to be a small country.

But for a city to have a population of over seven million was beyond some smaller nations’ total population.

“Seems your geography knowledge isn’t very good, huh!”

Seeing Gu Yu’s astonished face, Lin Xinyue blinked, finally spotting a weakness in him!

“Geography… last time I studied it was in middle school,”

Gu Yu shrugged, and as a computer science major, he hardly ever crossed paths with geography.

At most, it was only when preparing for a trip that he’d look up the tourist attractions of a city.

But Bangladesh, this country seemed practically invisible on an international level…

Gu Yu felt that even Siam was more famous than this nation.

Not to mention a city within this country.

“This country is the ninth most populous in the world, with a total population exceeding a hundred million!”

Lin Xinyue reached out and tapped Gu Yu’s forehead, just like a female teacher instructing a child on geography.

Gu Yu said, “That would be a crushing crowd…”

He looked out the window and quickly realized he did not need to say anything; the reality was just that.

Although they had only reached the suburban area, the roads were already surrounded by tricycles, each packed with people, all squeezed together.

He even saw those cage trucks used domestically for carrying piglets filled with people, and two hanging on the bars… literal hangers-on.

Street vendors and shops with canopies haphazardly occupied parts of the street, while pedestrians pushing carts brazenly walked down the main car thoroughfares.

Trash could be seen everywhere…

The overall image was dirty, chaotic, and substandard.

Gu Yu’s first impression of the city was instantly not good; despite being a large city it gave off a very backward and disorganized impression.

“Does it feel very backward? But this is already considered a good city here. The educational attainment of the population in this country is poor, and the whole nation doesn’t even have a single university that ranks within the top one thousand in the world.”

Wu Shaohan, having finished tidying up his makeup at some point, also looked out the window as he spoke.

His eyes were unfocused, as if he was recalling his own experiences in this city.

“It’s a lot like our Huaxia back in the seventies and eighties,” Gu Yu pondered for a moment before speaking.

Without comparison, there is no contrast; if Gu Yu had not visited Xiangjiang City recently, he might not have thought this city was so backward.

But he had left Xiangjiang City just a week ago. Despite also being a port city, the disparity between the two was vast.

“Sigh, there’s hardly any development, and it’s even more rundown than it was when I first came to Chittagong six years ago.”

Wu Shaohan nodded and seldomly voiced his lament.

“I remember a saying, the prosperity of a country greatly depends on the educational level of its people.”

Lin Xinyue added.

“That’s very true, but sometimes it’s not that they don’t want to learn, it’s just that the conditions don’t allow it.” Wu Shaohan agreed with a nod but then explained further.

“Conditions don’t allow it?” Gu Yu was perplexed.

“As a port city, the most common job for men here is serving the port. A ship breaking worker might make only two or three US Dollars a day.”

“The danger is not proportional to the earnings. Even money earned at risk of their lives is not enough for their children’s education.”

Wu Shaohan explained.

“… Sigh.” Gu Yu also let out a sigh. That’s how it goes when there are too many people and too few resources, everyone becomes cheap labor.

For the sake of limited resources, everyone desperately competes internally, even devaluing themselves to secure a job.

And such a social state, who knows how long it will be before a change occurs.

“We’ve arrived at Radisson Blu Chattogram Bay View.”

While everyone was chatting, Wu Shaohan suddenly pointed towards a tall building up ahead.

Gu Yu’s gaze followed to the high-rise, which stuck out incongruously from its surroundings.

The blue signage stood upright, the clean glass curtain wall, and the modern mortarboard-shaped roof stood out prominently, with a spacious area circled off at the entrance, where a fountain gushed with streams of water.

This would rank as a five-star hotel back home.

Then looking at the surrounding dilapidated low-rise buildings, the peeling wall finish, the exposed red bricks, and the plainly-dressed pedestrians weaving through illegally constructed canopies.

It was as if they were in the same area but two completely different worlds.

“It seems so shocking…” Gu Yu didn’t know how to describe his feelings.

He just felt it was absurd, yet it was plainly unfolding before his eyes.

As a major port city, it should have been prospering economically, making everyone wealthy, thanks to its enormous port advantage.

But it appeared that only a small group of people had become wealthy.

“It seems we don’t have to worry about our accommodation.” Wu Shaohan seemed to breathe a sigh of relief.

Seeing everyone looking at him puzzled, he smiled, “You haven’t been here before, so it’s normal for you not to understand why I’m relieved.”

“Chittagong is not a tourist city; it has very limited tourist resources, so there are basically no resting places specially catered for tourists.”

“The places available for accommodation are mostly business hotels, but they are expensive. Cheap ones that cost a few hundred Huaxia Coins are simply unlivable, while the expensive ones are like this hotel we’re looking at, over a thousand a night, but we don’t have to worry about the basic conditions.”

“For our group of thirty, we’re all arranged to stay at Radisson Blu. This time Bangladesh is really showing sincerity.”

As the person with the most authority to speak, Wu Shaohan spoke confidently.

“This I can attest to! Just as Wu described… every time I came here before, I never had a hot shower longer than five minutes…”@@novelbin@@

Beside him, Ge Zhengxiang quickly echoed.

“That exaggerated?” Gu Yu and Lin Xinyue looked at each other in disbelief.

For some reason, Gu Yu suddenly had a premonition that this trip might not go smoothly.

“It’s not an exaggeration; at least there’s hot water,” Wu Shaohan smiled.

Gu Yu: “…”

Lin Xinyue: “…”

“We don’t have to worry about these things. Since we’re arranged to stay at Radisson Blu, let’s settle in with peace of mind.”

Wu Shaohan assured them.

The bus stopped, and Ge Zhengxiang stood up with a spring, taking his gun and alighting first to stand guard.

“Everyone, disembark in order!”

“Let’s go down too. It seems the start of this ‘trip’ is smooth. Enjoy the one and only day at Radisson Blu, for tomorrow, when we head to the Rohingya Refugee Camp, you’ll miss today harshly.”

Wu Shaohan stood up, said some mysteriously ominous words to Gu Yu and Lin Xinyue, and then disembarked first.

“Let’s go down too.”

Gu Yu took Lin Xinyue’s hand and followed Wu Shaohan off the bus.
