They all just stared at Atticus, quietly.

Despite their strength, despite their ranks, standing near him felt like having a blade held to their throat. Like a quiet, invisible threat.

As if their lives were already in his hands.

Then his voice sounded, rattling them to their bones.

"We'll discuss this later. We should return to the human domain. I'm sure you're all aware of what's coming."

The expressions of the paragons shifted instantly before turning into dread.

They exchanged silent nods, serious now, and in a single synchronized flash, they returned to the aircraft they had arrived in.

But before they left, the other human paragons who had come began gathering their descendants. They also gathered for those who had stayed behind at the human domain.

Some of the recruits hadn't made it back… and that thought sent a chill through the paragons.

Unfortunately, the human airship couldn't carry the millions of survivors still left behind. They resolved to return for them later, only after Zenon gave his word that they would be protected in the meantime.

But even then, they didn't return to the human domain immediately. No, Atticus had other plans.

They branched off to two different military outposts first.

There, Atticus retrieved Ember and Carius, taking them directly from their military assignments.
