Chapter 73 73: Go Away, Demon!

Killing the first Earth Dragon had taken a lot out of Yennefer; after all, the Death Law was an extremely taxing Law to utilize. It was because of this that she resorted to less lethal but still very powerful attacks—ones that took far less out of her.

'She actually managed to kill one…' Cela thought in slight astonishment. 'Tragedy did this…?'

The agonizing roars of the Earth Dragons echoed out until they finally couldn't take it anymore. They bubbled up in rage, shattering the flame pillars and the ice glaciers in one go. Unfettered, they dashed forward, breaking the sound barrier millions of times over.

While doing so, they burned through their life force. This caused their bodies to light ablaze with a golden flame that spun beautifully, following the spiraling movement they performed in an attempt to maximize their speed and destructive power.

SHA! SHA! SHA!

Beams of golden annihilation light repeatedly shot out of the mouths of the two Earth Dragons, though this didn't slow their advance one bit.

They blazed toward Yennefer, melting gold coins and cracking Spirit Stones in the process. The material that made up the Vault's roof and floor visibly melted in straight, ever-expanding drilled lines—perfectly matching the trajectories of the Earth Dragons.

Yennefer—glitching in and out of reality—emotionlessly waved her hands. Spears made of Fire and Ice materialized all around her, each spinning at several times the speed of light.

She waved her hand forward, sending out all of the Fire and Ice spears at once.

SHING! SHING!

The elemental spears did little to halt or even slow down the Earth Dragons' crazy spiraling. They did, however, work well as effective smoke screens when they clashed against the golden flames. This subsequently made Yennefer blend in even more, allowing for an effortless transition of positions as she left behind an afterimage holding a trace of her aura.

Not knowing any better, the Earth Dragons attacked the afterimage. Yet, their charge didn't stop there, as they crashed into a golden wall. A massive, endless hole was drilled into it, with the Earth Dragons seemingly lost inside.

However, it was then that the Protectors of Beast Emperor Dracon turned back. Another huge hole was drilled through the golden wall.

BOOOM!

The Earth Dragons burst through a hole, debris flying everywhere. Evident by the fury on their sinuous faces, they had figured out Yennefer's little trick. Now they were mad.

Extremely mad.

SWOOOOSH—!

An extremely fast and unexpected beam of golden light shot out of the tail of one of the golden dragons. It was so random that Yennefer couldn't properly react in time. She threw up Fire and Ice-element defensive spells as a last resort, but she knew they wouldn't hold.

Yet, just as she braced herself for a tremendous impact, a portal of darkness appeared in front of her. It absorbed the golden beam's energy within nanoseconds before vanishing without a trace.

"???"

Yennefer had been so zoned out that she totally forgot about the other survivor among their group. She looked over and saw a pink-haired woman putting away the extremely volatile void energy she kept at the ready.

The two of them locked eyes before coming to a mutual silent agreement. They then jointly charged the Golden-Flaked Earth Dragons.

And for hours—the better part of a day—the two sides fought. They clashed, bled, and eventually… one side came out on top.

— Outside the cave entrance to Beast Emperor Dracon's stashed-away treasury —

*Snore—!*

The snoring of a lazy fellow sleeping on a tall tree rang loud and clear. He was peacefully napping with a small girl on his head until the sudden sound of footsteps caused his ears to twitch. A single eye opened as the lazy fellow peeked at the cave's entrance.

'So she won in the end, huh?' Knox thought, a small smile forming. 'I was deliberating going to help, but seeing as how she left victorious, I guess things worked out just fine.'

Attracted by the small commotion produced by the birth of a Heaven-rank Physique, Knox Falazar—our intrepid protagonist—decided to take a peeksie. This happened some time after Yara's untimely demise, which meant he arrived too late.

He felt a little bad about that, but after a few seconds of thought, he started to view the whole grim experience as a pivotal moment for his fiancée. One that would surely evolve her not only as a person but also as a striver for greater character development.

'Don't much like the b*tch,' Knox thought. 'But that doesn't change the fact that she's my fiancée. And seeing how my father cares about our marriage alliance, that means I too care about it.'

'And you can't very well have a marriage without the bride, now can you?' he continued with a small inward chuckle, his eyes still tracking the slow movements of his wife-to-be. 'It's good that she survived, but I wonder just how long she's going to be walking around all gloomy like that. If she stays this way forever, our time as newlyweds will really depress the hell out of me…'

Shaking his head with a sigh, Knox neutrally watched as Yennefer gradually disappeared. She then vanished without a trace, having left with half of all of Beast Emperor Dracon's loot.

But at the same time, a piece of herself was left behind—one that she'd never be able to retrieve.

"I suppose I should really work on her in the future," Knox said. "If not, my dreams of having a sweet and affectionate sugar momma catering to all my needs and keeping me away from the spotlight will be just that—a dream."

That was when he felt it—an obsessive gaze suspiciously surveying the surroundings—seemingly searching for something… or someone.

'Oh, sh*t, it's that crazy b*tch!' Knox thought as he hurriedly ducked his head, activating all his camouflage abilities.

'Please go away! Please go away! Please go away!' he chanted as if he were warding away inner demons.

Eventually, his prayers were answered. Cela coldly harrumphed before leaving as a blur, her blood-stained body breezing into the wind.

A few minutes passed by quickly. Knox stayed on that tree the entire time, aimlessly meandering about in his own thoughts. However, realizing that the coast was clear, he departed from the scene—silent as a fleeting ghost.

From that point onward, time inside the Devilstar Secret Realm passed by rather fast.
