Chapter 505: 193, Chen Shanhe, Chen Kainan, father and son finally meet!_2
“The specifics are too complicated, so let me just put it straight to you,” said Elder Mr. Chen. “Without a powerful interest group behind him, not to mention ascending to the position of Duke of America, he wouldn’t even have the qualifications to compete within the club!”
After he finished speaking, another elder added, “This matter indeed has too many odd and nonsensical aspects. Up to this point, I really can’t figure out which mysterious family or consortium possesses such ability to make other families willingly cede the Duke position they should have had.”
“My subordinates have been inquiring for intelligence all over America recently,” Elder Mr. Chen continued, “but after so many days, they haven’t been able to find out anything at all.”
“It’s as if this mysterious and powerful backing force just popped up out of nowhere.”
Once they started talking about these topics, everyone seemed to have endless things to say, and no one touched the dishes on the table anymore, letting the soup in the hot pot in the center keep boiling.
After a brief silence, Wu Jingguo suddenly spoke up, “Do you think there’s a possibility that the interest group behind Johnson Hester is Lin Mo?”
Huh?
Lin Mo?
Upon hearing Wu Jingguo’s words, everyone showed a look of surprise on their faces.
Indeed, they all knew Lin Mo and were aware of the previous struggle between Chen Shanhe and Lin Mo.
It had to be said that Lin Mo was indeed very powerful.
But no matter how capable he was, it wasn’t possible that he had grown into a superpower capable of controlling America’s elections in less than three years, was it?
This wasn’t a question of capability but one of heritage.
Looking around, which of the major forces and families in America today weren’t descendants of the Mayflower’s sailors or the victors of the Civil War?
These families, through the efforts and development of generation after generation, and by happenstance aligning with the victorious side in each historical choice, had achieved their present glory.
Lin Mo alone, in a few years’ time, by what means could he attain such an exalted status?
Because Wu Jingguo was the one speaking, everyone refrained from being too blunt. The slender elder smiled and said, “Brother Wu, your imagination is truly rich; we almost couldn’t keep up with your frequency.”
Everyone started to laugh along.
Another person added, “Chen Shanhe hid so well, yet we still managed to track him down in Japan. There’s no trace of Lin Mo so far; this can only mean that it’s highly likely he’s hiding in a war-torn country, and whether he’s still alive at this point is a very big question mark!”
Others agreed, “That’s logical. I think that even if Lin Mo is in America, he couldn’t have reached such a stage. However, regardless of whether it’s him behind the scenes, the end of Chen Shanhe is indeed good news for him.”
“This young fellow still has many secrets, especially his intelligence organization called Abyss. It does have some significance; it would be good if we had the chance to contact him.”
As for the discussions of the others, Wu Jingguo did not add anything.
His suggestion that the person behind the scenes might be Lin Mo was just a simple guess, without any evidence to present and not even logically sound.
It was just that Wu Jingguo always felt that Lin Mo, that Little Monkey, couldn’t be thought of in ordinary terms.
Take the present situation for example. A person of Grand Xia nationality aspiring to become the controller of an American Duke’s election sounded like a fantasy.
But if you look back a few years, a dockworker circumventing the state’s cyber security surveillance, exposing the crimes of officials to the world, and ultimately leading his entire family out of Grand Xia safely.
Wasn’t that too a fantasy?
“Little fellow, could it be you?”
Wu Jingguo poured himself a drink, looking out at the drifting snow outside the window, memories of his past meetings with Lin Mo involuntarily surfaced in his mind.
Although it was a bit nonsensical, his subconscious truly had an intuition that the matters in America were very likely related to Lin Mo.
…
Meanwhile, at another location.
While Wu Jingguo and a group of Grand Xia’s bigwigs heated up wine to discuss heroes, the business van Lin Mo was in had reached the villa where he lived.
The van did not enter the villa, however. Instead, it continued along a side road, winding this way and that, until it entered a villa without a house number and heavily guarded.
The car drove into the villa’s underground parking garage and stopped in front of a blast-proof door guarded by dedicated personnel.
The driver respectfully reported, “Mr. Lin, we’ve arrived at the villa.”
Lin Mo slowly nodded and walked out of the business vehicle.@@novelbin@@
The two security personnel at the entrance of the blast-proof door bowed slightly at the same time, their attitudes exceedingly respectful.
“Mr. Lin!”
“Good day, Mr. Lin!”
Unconsciously, Lin Mo now carried an aura similar to that of Chen Shanhe’s in the past.
Of course, the two men had different life pursuits, and Lin Mo didn’t harbor such grand ambitions; everything he did was merely to let his family live on with dignity.
He was similar to Chen Shanhe, but there were fundamental differences.
Lin Mo gestured for them to rise and indifferently walked to the door, successfully opening the blast-proof door using a combination of fingerprint, iris, and passcode authentication.
As the lights inside turned on, the layout of the room was revealed.
At the center was a large bed, with various types of clothes hanging beside it, and along the wall was a whole row of wardrobes.
Beyond that, the room contained six large iron cages, each draped with black opaque cloth, the arrangement almost exactly the same as the villa basement in Guanghua Village.
The only difference was the six-sided television that hung in the middle of the room, allowing its screen to be clearly seen from any angle.
Lin Mo stepped up to the first cage, and with a strong tug, pulled away the heavy cloth, revealing Chen Shanhe inside, already dressed in prison garb.
The sudden burst of light made Chen Shanhe instinctively squint his eyes; it took a few seconds for him to recover.
Having just been locked up here, Chen Shanhe hadn’t changed much, and his expression was calm, seemingly well-prepared for this kind of treatment.
He just couldn’t understand why Lin Mo had designed the room like this; it didn’t seem practical.
It was similar to the places where he used to detain his enemies, comparable in size to a prison with numerous guards and all sorts of methods to prevent escapes.
As their eyes met, it was eventually Lin Mo who broke the silence, smiling, “Elder Mr. Chen, did you ever imagine we would meet again under these circumstances?”
Chen Shanhe shook his head, “To be honest, I never thought I would be defeated by you, Lin Mo. You’ve truly surprised me!”
“But I don’t understand, what do you want to do by showing up here now?”
“If you’re here to talk about how you overthrew the Chen Family or the fate of my worthless sons, I’ll tell you there’s no point in doing so.”
“I don’t care about their outcomes in the slightest.”
Lin Mo looked at Chen Shanhe calmly, quietly waiting for him to finish speaking, and made sure he had nothing else to add before saying, “Elder Mr. Chen, of course, I know you don’t care about those people outside, and I’m not here to talk about their fates.”
“There’s nothing much to discuss about them, their outcomes are just death.”
“I’m here to fulfill my promise, to let you meet with Chen Kainan and have a heartfelt talk about the father-son relationship.”
“Elder Mr. Chen, don’t you want to know what this room has to do with your son and how I managed to capture Chen Kainan without anyone noticing, and where I’ve hidden him?”
After these words were spoken, Chen Shanhe involuntarily furrowed his brow.
He did want to know these things; in fact, these mysteries had been troubling him for two to three years.
Seeing that Chen Shanhe wasn’t as calm and composed as he appeared, Lin Mo smiled and said, “I can tell you the solution directly.”
“This room was built by your son to detain six people: his enemies, childhood friends, friends, and subordinates.”
“And the place where he is living now is a one-to-one replica of the cell you are currently in!”
What do you think?
