Chapter 19 - 19 18 Beautiful Butterfly Hairpin
Chapter 19: Chapter 18: Beautiful Butterfly Hairpin Chapter 19: Chapter 18: Beautiful Butterfly Hairpin Liu Hui’s daughter was named Gu Youyou, and she, too, had just turned three this year. Liu Hui was already a workaholic, and so was her husband. They were hardly ever home, leaving their child in the care of her grandparents.
By the time Liu Hui realized her daughter’s shy nature, it was already late. Gu Youyou, who spent her days cooped up at home watching television, didn’t play with other children at all.
Liu Hui’s reason for joining “Cute Baby’s Daily Life” was her hope that in the countryside, surrounded by peers, fishing and teasing dogs might help to bring her daughter out of her shell.
“Sorry, my daughter is a little timid,” Liu Hui said to Qin Tao with an expression of obvious concern, “I just hope that she can make some friends by coming here.”
That comment was an explanation not just for Qin Tao, but also for the audience watching the live-stream behind the cameras.
[We know, we know, Sister Hui had already posted on Instagram about it.]
[It’s normal for parents who are too busy with work to neglect their children a bit. I was also difficult as a kid, but I straightened myself out eventually.]
[Wait a second, what is the little auntie doing there?]
Mianmian, who had just been holding a necklace, was now standing behind Liu Hui with Gu Youyou. It was the observant crew who kept their focus on Mianmian and shifted the camera direction, capturing both little girls in the frame.
“Are you called Youyou? My name is Mianmian, our names are kind of similar,” Mianmian said, offering the necklace once more, “Do you like this present? If not, I have lots of fun things in my small bag.”
Gu Youyou was a bit thin, her face not as round and plump as Mianmian’s, missing that chubby look of a child. But she was beautifully lean, thanks to her parents’ good genes.
Perhaps it was the first time she’d been approached so closely by another child; Gu Youyou clung tightly to Liu Hui’s leg and instinctively tried to hide. But after lifting her head to glance at Qin Tao, she chose to stand still instead.
By now, Mianmian had already squatted down.
Her small bag was full of treasures, and she had to take them out one by one. They were all little trinkets, fit for a child’s palm, delicate and cute.
The crew felt amazed and couldn’t help squatting down to watch as Mianmian dug through her small bag. It was quite magical – how could all those bottles, jars, wooden swords, and wooden figures fit in there?
However, Gu Youyou, the little friend, was clearly still scared and not interested at all.
It wasn’t until Mianmian took out two blue butterfly hair clips, fastened to a small piece of wood and flapping in the breeze once taken out, looking extremely beautiful.
Gu Youyou let go of Liu Hui and squatted down to look.
It’s not just any child who can resist the allure of butterfly hair clips; even Liu Hui, an adult, couldn’t help but squat down to take a closer look at the clips.
Having starred in many TV dramas, she naturally knew how precious such hollow-carved dyed accessories were. If they were a bit older, they could be considered national treasures, requiring contracts for filming use, and if damaged, even tenfold compensation was possible.
Coincidentally, she had just seen an identical pair at the Museum not long ago.
Was Mianmian actually that generous, or did the Su Family’s wealth allow them to collect so many exotic treasures for her?
Despite her reflections, Liu Hui silently prayed that her daughter wouldn’t take a fancy to the hair clips.
They were too valuable. How could she ever repay such a favor? Not to mention, she seemed to have had some issues with Su Chenfei.
But as the saying goes, be careful what you wish for – her daughter unexpectedly whispered softly, “Butterfly, pretty.”
Mianmian was pulling out a small hammer, but when she heard Gu Youyou say the butterfly was pretty, she directly handed the butterfly hair clips to her: “Then I’ll give them to you.”
[My goodness, I’m an archaeology major, and once for an assignment, our professor asked us to study this type of ancient craftsmanship for a paper. There is a similar pair in the Museum, said to be crafted by an ancient emperor for his most beloved little daughter’s butterfly wings.]
[Museum items? It can’t be stolen goods, right? The Su family’s rich, but they better not have made their fortune through looting. @NorthCityPoliceNetwork]
[Don’t talk nonsense, the craftsmanship of that wooden figure is exquisite; if little auntie can bring out such butterflies, I don’t see a problem. Maybe the parents are inherited craftsmen?]
[Anyway, the little auntie is really generous. If I had such pretty ornaments, I wouldn’t bear to give them away.]
Mianmian’s gift was generous, and Liu Hui didn’t dare let her daughter accept it, hesitant about whether to intervene.
Who knew that Mianmian suddenly looked up at her, her eyes dark and sincere, “It doesn’t matter, there are many more in my family’s warehouse, just bring a pair for Youyou, Mianmian likes Youyou.”
You’ve got to say, the way she spoke had an air of an elder, with a true Little Auntie vibe.
Liu Hui found Su Mianmian so adorable she couldn’t help but smile, “Okay, Youyou, then let’s accept this gift, and we’ll give something in return when we go to play at her house another day, alright?”
Liu Hui had actually wanted to bring gifts for the children of the guests as well, but after discussing back and forth with her daughter, her daughter just kept her head down, unwilling to take the initiative to give them.
She wasn’t the kind of authoritarian parent who wanted to force her daughter to do something she was unwilling to, so she didn’t bring it up again.
Gu Youyou, hearing her mother agree, carefully reached out to accept the butterfly, and playfully touched it, causing the butterfly to immediately shake and seem ready to fly.
The usually shy girl smiled happily, a sweet smile indeed.
Mianmian also smiled along, her little hands gathering all the stuff on the ground into her small bag, which obediently did not seem to contain many items at all.
After putting everything away, she took out a pair of pink butterfly hair clips, “Youyou, shall we both wear them, okay?”
Mianmian also wanted to play with girls her age, but there weren’t any on the mountain. Even if there were demon children her age, they couldn’t shape-shift at the age of three.
Gu Youyou, seeing the pair of pink butterflies in Mianmian’s hand, looked at the blue ones in her own hand, then back at the pink ones, her eyes showing desire.
Both pink and blue looked nice.
Desperate to have both, she couldn’t help but turn to the adults for help.
Liu Hui noticed her daughter’s gaze and understood what she meant, gently saying, “Youyou, you can’t be greedy, darling. Mommy knows both pink and blue are pretty, but the blue one is a gift from a friend, and that’s already precious.”
Feeling unfulfilled, Gu Youyou became sad, her eyes reddening. But she dared not cry; crying at home would get her in trouble with grandpa and grandma.
Liu Hui’s heart ached, it was true her daughter needed to be taught, but as a mother, how much did she just want to spoil her?
“How about this.” Just when Liu Hui was in a dilemma, the milky voice of a little one spoke up again.
Mianmian plucked a pink butterfly, handed it over to Gu Youyou, “Let’s split the little butterflies, that way we’ll have both colors, would you like to trade with me? I actually like both colors too.”
Gu Youyou nodded, carefully detached one blue butterfly, and handed it to Mianmian. After trading, she eagerly said, “Mommy, put it on.”
[Ah, our Little Auntie is really composed, generous, and smart!]
[I’d take a dozen of these little elders, I love them so much wahhh.]
[So cute, little sisters… wait, how many generations apart are they?]
Mianmian also wanted to wear the little butterfly, and she trotted over to Su Chenfei, “Cousin, put it on for me.”
Su Chenfei had been paying attention to Mianmian all along and quickly helped her with the hair clip when she returned.
Right when the staff announced the flight was ready for boarding, he began leading Mianmian and carrying the luggage.
Who knew Mianmian wouldn’t let him lead her, running over to Gu Youyou, leaving only one sentence behind, “Cousin, you’re an adult now, you can walk on your own, Mianmian wants to be with Youyou.”
Su Chenfei: ???
Was he just abandoned by the Little Auntie? Is that even reasonable?
What do you think?
