Chapter 25: Chapter 0025: Helping Out In Time Of Need1_1 Chapter 25: Chapter 0025: Helping Out In Time Of Need1_1 Once everything was moved, Feng Qingxue took out the rice, clothes and other items that now belonged to her family from the space, and grabbed a few different types of mixed grain cornbread to appease Feng Qingyun.
“Sister, where did all this stuff come from? And the flatbed cart!” Feng Qingyun washed her hands, and as she ate the steamed bun Feng Qingxue had brought her, she asked, her eyes sweeping over the wooden books, bowls, plates, and other items.
Feng Qingxue answered, “The things were collected from trash, and the flatbed cart is borrowed. I need to return it before dawn tomorrow.”
“Sister, are you going out again tomorrow? Can’t you take me along? I can beg with you. You said last time that I didn’t have trousers and shoes so you didn’t take me, but now I have clothes and shoes to wear.”
“No.” Feng Qingxue flatly refused.
“Why?” Feng Qingyun was greatly disappointed.
Of course, it’s because if you’re around, I can’t take things out of the space! Feng Qingxue thought to herself.
However, she said, “Silly girl, other than a few patches on your gown, none of your other clothes have any patches. One look and people will know our family’s conditions aren’t that bad, they won’t give us any food.”
Feng Qingyun looked down at herself, then at Feng Qingxue, and fell silent.
Of course, she wore nice clothes now, while her sister dressed in the old rags from before, looking like a poor person at first glance.
They washed up and slept that night, and the next day, around three in the morning, Feng Qingxue set off. Considering Qingyun’s cleverness and her own intentions, Qingxue decided to leave her at home, promising to bring back some nice food for her.
Feng Qingxue, pulling the flatbed cart, arrived at the old elm tree at five o’clock.
On the flatbed were sacks of food she had picked up on the way, a half sack of cornmeal, and over half a sack of whole wheat flour.
Whole wheat flour is flour that hasn’t been separated from the wheat bran, which counts as fine grain now, even cornmeal is classified as a fine grain.
The sacks were hard-won, taken out from the space. The food she initially purchased was all contained in nylon bags that were sealed with white thread, these few sacks were used when she was trading in mountain goods.
Besides those grains, Feng Qingxue also put small cloth bags filled with rice, millets and other valuable grains into the basket on the cart.
Aunt Xu and Uncle Xu walked around the old elm, dripping with dew, clearly having waited a long time.
“Aunt Xu.” Feng Qingxue hurried to greet her.
The two old people stopped in their tracks, looked at her in joy.
“Girl, you’re here!” Aunt Xu’s heart that had been hanging in the air finally dropped.
Feng Qingxue sized up Uncle Xu a few times, he was an interesting old man, tattered clothes couldn’t hide his clean and cultured demeanor, and there was a noble air about him, like a pampered young master.
“Uncle Xu, hello.” Feng Qingxue was the first to greet him.
Uncle Xu gave a small smile, “Girl, thank you, the food you gave my wife yesterday saved at least three lives.”
If it weren’t for the fact that several old folks were starving to death, and absolutely out of options, his wife would never have dared to brave the big risk, trading the dowry she had barely managed to hide for food on the black market.
Feng Qingxue laughed, “Don’t mention it, I got some good things from Auntie. Now, have a look at the grain I’ve brought.”
Seeing that the sacks on the cart were all full of grain, the two old people wept with joy.
“So much grain, I’m afraid what we brought isn’t enough.” Aunt Xu hesitated for a moment, then said to Feng Qingxue.
What do you think?
