Chapter 1017: Overwhelming Happiness

Gong Xin let out a relieved sigh when she saw Gu Zi break into a smile.
The group, chatting and laughing, piled into the car, but Su Shen said nothing. Gu Zi couldn’t help but think that the older man truly understood her—at times like this, what she needed wasn’t comforting words, but a quiet moment to regroup. And as usual, Su Shen came through.
When they arrived at Golden Sun Hotel, Su Shen had already made sure everything was in perfect order.
Throughout dinner, no one mentioned the exams. Instead, the conversation focused on Gu Zi’s health, urging her to relax and rest after the stress of the tests.
As the meal concluded, a waiter arrived with a large bouquet of red roses.
Gu Zi instinctively glanced at Su Shen, who stood there, broad-shouldered and stiff as a board. Upon meeting her gaze, he cleared his throat and, with a slight awkwardness, said, “The florist told me that for young women, red roses are the best, so I got them for you.”
Su Shen had never been one to publicly give flowers, and the whole situation made him visibly uncomfortable. Gu Zi instantly recognized that he was feeling shy. With a smile, she took the flowers and looped her arm through his. “I love them. Thank you,” she murmured.
Su Shen, holding her hand, whispered back, “As long as you like them.”
Before she received the flowers, Su Shen had been nervous. He wasn’t good at romance, and he’d only started to learn it for her. Seeing her smile at the roses, though, made him feel a sense of accomplishment. He would make an effort to be more romantic in the future—because she liked it.
Gong Xin, her eyes widening at the sight of the bouquet, couldn’t help but recall something from the past. She tugged Gu Zi aside and whispered, “I remember when you were chasing my brother, you used to send him roses too—one a day. It looks like you two really are made for each other, even your way of wooing is the same.”
The smile faded from Gu Zi’s face, and she shot Gong Xin a glare. “Focus on your food, Gong Xin. Jin Long will make sure you’re fed, so shut your mouth and stop talking nonsense, alright?”
Seeing Gu Zi’s stern expression, Gong Xin immediately raised her hands in surrender, making a zipping motion across her lips. “I won’t bring it up again, especially not in front of your husband. I’m sorry.”
After dinner, the group left the private room and headed home, none of them wanting to disturb Gu Zi’s rest.
When they arrived back, Gu Zi was so exhausted she could barely keep her eyes open. Su Shen, ever considerate, made sure the kids didn’t disturb her. He asked Su Jing to take Su Le to bed and ensured the boys wouldn’t bother her. Soon, the door to the master bedroom was gently shut.
Su Shen prepared a warm bath for Gu Zi, but she was so tired that she fell asleep by the bed before she could even get into it. Su Shen couldn’t bring himself to wake her, so he covered her with a light blanket and, holding her close, drifted off to sleep himself.
Gu Zi slept soundly, without a dream. The next morning, she was awoken by the shrill sound of her alarm.
At first, she couldn’t quite process that the exams were over. She almost jumped out of bed to study, but a strong arm pulled her back, enveloping her in a kiss. It started as a soft, tender kiss, but quickly deepened into a passionate embrace, one they struggled to pull away from.
Only when the alarm rang again did Su Shen finally release her, turning it off with a low, murmured, “You’ve just finished your exams. No need to push yourself. What do you want to do now?”
Gu Zi blushed, the realization dawning on her that the exams were truly over. The results would be out by the end of the month. She thought back to when she filled out her university applications—her top choice was Di Du University, also known as the Imperial Capital University, although “Di Du” sounded much more majestic and was the more commonly used name.
These days, students filled out their applications before the exams, a bit like gambling on their future. Now that the exams were done, all she could do was wait and see what tomorrow would bring.
Turning her gaze back to Su Shen, she lay back in bed, her voice soft and sleepy. “I’m so tired. I don’t want to do anything. I just want to sleep.”
Su Shen kissed her forehead gently, rising to his feet. “Go ahead and sleep. I’ll make you breakfast and bring it to you. Eat something before you sleep more.”
Su Shen knew that many students, after finishing their exams, would rush to a nightclub to let loose. Some were already gathering in groups to guess their scores. But Gu Zi was different—she just wanted to rest. He didn’t mind, as long as she was happy. But he wasn’t going to let her go hungry.
Gu Zi, still half-asleep, saw his figure leave the room and felt a wave of happiness. She had always had the habit of eating breakfast, and now, her stomach was quietly reminding her that she was hungry.
This was what it felt like to be spoiled like a little princess.
She wanted to sleep in, and the first thing he did was ensure she could—then, he’d make her breakfast. How could she not love him?
What do you think?
