Chapter 1020: Get the Gong Family to Attend

Gu Zi took the suit from the salesperson and helped Su Shen slip it on, and, as expected, he looked even more handsome. The difference was striking.
Su Shen’s usual attire had always been somewhat generic, giving off a vibe of being just a tad too old-fashioned. But this new ensemble brought out a more youthful look, while still maintaining his characteristic mature charm.
In her mind, Gu Zi began to envision the transformation—what if she added a pair of sunglasses? Goodness, it would create the perfect “tough-guy, mature male lead” image, wouldn’t it?
She hooked her arm through his and teased, “My dear husband, how about we make this the outfit for your summer business wardrobe? Let’s also pick the other two shirts in different colors, and we’ll get two pairs of suit trousers.”
It was the first time she had addressed him so formally as “husband,” and the words left her feeling a little shy.
Su Shen, hearing her, was equally surprised but couldn’t help but love it. Plus, the way the salesperson had recognized him as her husband, not her brother or father, solidified the moment. In that instant, he decided, this entire ensemble was a must-have.
He smiled softly, replying, “Alright, it’s all up to you.”
After settling on the formal outfit, Gu Zi picked out a few casual pieces for him to wear on regular days.
When the time came to pay, she insisted on handling the bill. Though she wasn’t the type to easily spend on a man, Su Shen had earned an exception. She was more than happy to share the love between them by indulging him in this way.
Su Shen, too, enjoyed the rare experience of having his wife pay for his clothes. He knew that, while she’d been saving up her own little stash, for her to spend a few hundred on him was something special.
After all, no one else—least of all the young men eyeing her earlier—would ever receive this kind of treatment. His mood finally lifted.
Once the shopping was finished, Su Shen suggested getting a haircut, wanting a more modern, trendy style. Gu Zi, too, decided on a new look, opting for a perm and big waves that gave her a more mature vibe.
The results were stunning, though she had some concerns. Was she now looking too mature? This was her first time getting a perm, after all.
Su Shen reassured her, his voice soft, “Don’t worry, it looks beautiful on you.” To him, Gu Zi was always perfect, no matter what she did.
Meanwhile, at the Gu family’s home, Lin Miao had been estimating her scores. She knew her foreign language grades couldn’t compete with Gu Zi’s—she’d never been as good at languages—and her math had been affected by some external circumstances. She wasn’t confident about that either. As for the other subjects, she felt much more certain.
Though Gu Zi had always been a top student, Lin Miao felt that, with the effort she had put into her recent studies, she had a solid chance of doing well.
She was confident about her university prospects. She’d already set her sights on the prestigious Guangcheng University, which was close to Gong Zhan’s military base. She planned to rekindle her relationship with him if she had the chance.
Lin Miao shared her estimated scores with her parents, Gu Shan and Zhang Mei. After a quick discussion, they decided to throw a celebration for her passing the university entrance exam.
Zhang Mei said, “Finally, some good news for our family. We need to make sure we get the Gong family to come, especially Gong Zhan.”
Gu Shan thought for a moment before asking, “I heard Gong Zhan was patrolling your exam hall? He’s not usually assigned to tasks like that, which means he must have had some interest in you. Miao Miao, you need to seize this opportunity.”
Lin Miao’s face tightened with worry. She was unsure if getting Gong Zhan to come to the celebration would be as easy as her parents thought.
The last time she had seen him at the exam hall, he had ignored her completely and even spoken up for Gu Zi. But she couldn’t share these concerns with her parents, so she just smiled and nodded in response.
Back at the Su family home, Su Shen had invited the Lin family over to discuss the details of Gu Zi’s celebration. She was about to embark on a new chapter in her life, so it was a momentous occasion.
Su Shen planned to throw a big celebration and wanted to invite everyone—acquaintances from the village, town, and city—to come. The venue, however, was still up for discussion.
Jin Long, who had been listening in, immediately voiced his opinion, clearly not thrilled with the indecision. “Brother Shen, are we really still debating this? Where else would we hold the party if not at Golden Sun Hotel? Let’s make it simple—on the day of the celebration, we’ll handle the transportation for the guests from the village and town, and make sure they get back home safely. It has to be at Golden Sun Hotel!”
He was also secretly hoping to get some valuable recipes from Gu Zi’s collection. If the chefs at Golden Sun Hotel could master even a few of those dishes, he was certain the restaurant would be a hit. Plus, he was counting on Gong Xin to notice his efforts.
Su Shen took a moment to think, then turned to Gu Zi. “This is for your big day, so what do you think?”
What do you think?
