Chapter 345 Beat The High Score
Exclamations of amazement were the only things heard in the arcade as Kai continued beating its high score.
The current high score was 198, and Kai was already down to 350.
A small crowd had formed around him, but he didn't seem to notice them.
Fei had been cast to the side, appearing disappointed yet still intrigued by Kai's shooting streak.
"What the heck?" she muttered. "He's still going?"
The others, especially the little kids, had recognized Kai, and before he knew it, they were chanting his name.
"Kai Guo!"
"Kai Guo!"
Kai, however, didn't pay them much attention. In front of the basketball hoop, he had set his goal of making 500 shots.
434 shots in, and the ring was moving like crazy.
Even the arcade workers couldn't stop but stare.
"What is that kid doing?" one of them asked.
"That kid is Kai Guo—the player from Shizi Dogs who managed to get the rookie and overall MVP."
"Holy crap! That's him? He's taller in real life."
It didn't take a genius to see that nearly everyone was intrigued by Kai.
Fei forgot about her 'perfect date fantasy' for a second to perform her 'team manager' duties.
"He's so much better now," Fei muttered. It made her wonder if Kai had a secret to his improvement.
"I need to tell Coach Guanyu about this," she continued. Although she doubted that he didn't know about it. It was Coach Guanyu. He was always a step ahead of everyone when it came to coaching.
"500 shots!" one kid exclaimed, causing Fei to snap back to reality.
She directed her gaze to the scoreboard and saw that Kai had, indeed, scored 500 points.
With that, he finally stopped, making her frown.
"He can still continue, but he chose to stop?" she whispered.
Kai sighed in satisfaction as soon as he saw the new high score on the basketball machine.
It was true that he could still keep going, but he feared that it was going to get dark if he continued.
"Mommy, I want to take a picture with him!"
"Can you please take a photo with my daughter?"
"Honey, take a photo of us."
"Can you sign my son's basketball? He wants to be like you when he grows up!"
Kai's eyes widened as soon as he was surrounded by strangers. However, he quickly snapped back to reality and fulfilled their requests.
It was only a small crowd, but Kai still felt a sense of satisfaction in his heart.
It was surreal that he had inspired this many people by just playing basketball games.
Fortunately, they dispersed quickly, smiles on their faces as they looked at their memorabilia.
Kai couldn't shake off the smile from his lips as he watched them walk away. However, his smile dropped when he saw Fei sitting in one of the chairs.
He quickly went to where she was, scratching the back of his neck in embarrassment.
"Sorry about that," Kai said. "Got caught up with the crowd."
Fei gave him a tight-lipped smile before standing from his seat.
"It's fine," she sighed. "I already expected it."
With that, she started walking out of the arcade. However, she turned around for a second.
"Walk me home, at least?" she said.
Kai pursed his lips. He had tried to show that he wasn't interested in her romantically all throughout the date, but it seemed like he went overboard.@@novelbin@@
With that, he nodded and followed after her.
As they made their way out of the arcade, Fei turned around, her eyes narrowing as she looked at Kai.
"Umm, what?" Kai asked.
Fei clicked her tongue. "Walk beside me. You can't even do that? I've already been mistaken as your aunt."
Kai shook his head in amusement and matched her pace.
They were stuck in silence for a couple of moments until Fei decided to break it.
"You're really good at making me feel you aren't interested," she started off.
Kai pursed his lips. "To be fair, we don't know each other like that."
"I guess," Fei smirked. "However, I would reckon that you would want to get to know me. A lot of boys your age do."
"But, I shouldn't be too surprised," she continued. "You turned down Suzy Mei, right?"
Kai merely chuckled, not really saying anything.
"Is it because of another girl?" Fei suddenly asked.
Kai didn't say anything for a while before silently nodding.
"You could say that," he muttered.
Fei clicked her tongue. "I can't believe I'm hurt about this. But then again, this is the first time I've been blatantly rejected like this. I feel like I should leave you alone now."
"You should," Kai said without any hesitation.
Fei shook her head. "Even now, you're still so brazen."
"Well, whatever. I just found you attractive, that's all. You're also really good at basketball," she continued.
"Thanks," Kai beamed, happy about her compliment about him being a good basketball player.
"Of course, that's when you crack a smile," Fei giggled in amusement.
"Well, this is where I live," she said, stopping before a large house. Kai looked at it in wonder, and then he realized that it looked awfully familiar. Explore hidden tales at My Virtual Library Empire
He looked around and saw that it was Lina's neighborhood.
"Is this the part where I slap you now?' Fei asked, snapping Kai back to reality.
Kai chuckled. "Sure, if it makes you feel better."
"I definitely should," she said. "Especially after ruining my perfect date fantasy!"
"But that would make me look desperate," Fei continued. "So, I'll just hold onto my revenge until the Nationals."
Kai raised his eyebrows in surprise.
"Watch your back, Kai Guo," she knowingly smiled. "Next time, the Yin Yang Knights won't let you get close to their score."
Kai smiled in amusement.
"I'm looking forward to it."
With that, Fei went inside their gate, giving Kai a final wave.
Kai waved back, a small smile still playing on his lips.
Then, he was about to leave the vicinity when he came across a familiar face.
His eyes widened as he was met with a man whose frown was deeper than the Marianas Trench.
"O—Officer Huang."
What do you think?
