Chapter 19: With Dad, or Mom?
Chapter 19: Chapter 19: With Dad, or Mom?
Lu Xining did not step forward.
Her phone vibrated slightly, and she glanced at the caller ID, her already gentle eyes softening even further.
“Old Gong, when are you coming back?”
“You said the same thing last time, Nuonuo and I both miss you.”
As she entered the house.
A sliver of a window in the backseat of the car rolled down.
...
The man in the backseat exuded a noble aura of someone accustomed to luxury.
The night wind invaded the car, carrying with it a low, soft chuckle.
After Lu Xining had taken a bath and went back down to look, the black Maybach was no longer there.
She stared at the starless sky above, her eyes full of myriad thoughts.
The lawyer had suggested that she should start with the child.
The Ji Family’s strength was plain for all to see.
Ji Muye had no other children besides Ji Chao and Ji Ze.
And she had a daughter, Lu Nuonuo.
Legally, custody would lean towards a parent who had no other children.
This would decrease her chance of winning.
But if the child was willing to steadfastly stay with his mother, then her odds would improve.
As a mother, she naturally wanted to raise her child.
But if they preferred to stay with their father…
Lu Xining’s eyes darkened, then she would leave them a future free of worries.
For instance: irreversible sterilization, completely cutting off Ji Muye’s ability to reproduce!
Once the custody battle began, one party had to bow out.
The next evening.
Lu Xining appeared at the kindergarten gate, only to find Liu Xixi and Ji Muye also there.
The man’s temperature dropped when he saw her, and before his gaze could lock on her, she had already turned her face away towards the kindergarten entrance.
Today, Lu Xining looked ethereal.
Her smoke purple dress flowed down to her ankles, a belt accentuating her graceful figure, her black hair elegantly pinned to the side with a white jade hairpin.
Elegant, noble.
Like a dignified lady from a prestigious household.
It was a side of her Ji Muye had never seen.
Liu Xixi saw the man’s increasingly focused gaze and quickly said, “Aye, the kids are coming out.”
Realizing his distraction, Ji Muye’s long eyelashes fluttered, concealing all emotions within.
Ahead, Ji Chao led Ji Ze out, and the two spotted Ji Muye immediately, quickening their pace toward him.
“Daddy!”
Lu Xining was not far from Ji Muye.
As soon as Ji Chao came out, he saw her, his eyes brightening. He pulled his brother and hurriedly ran toward her, his steps eager and joyful.
“Mommy, why are you here?”
“Mommy came to pick you up from school, don’t you like it?” Lu Xining pulled Ji Chao into her embrace, disregarding Ji Ze.
Ji Chao shook his head, then nodded, embarrassedly rubbing his head: “I like it, I really like when mommy picks me up!”
Lu Xining smiled and touched his head, while Ji Ze to the side pursed his lips stubbornly, his face filled with hurt and loss.
Ji Chao peeked behind her, searching for Little Dumpling. “Mommy, my sister didn’t come?”
Lu Xining: “Your sister is at home. Aunt Ming Yuan and I bought you a lot of new toys, do you want to come home with mommy?”
Ji Chao immediately said, “Yes!”
After a long wait, not hearing her ask himself, Ji Ze’s eyes began to redden, his grievance deepening.
As Lu Xining was about to leave with Ji Chao, he asked, “Mommy, isn’t my brother coming with us?”
Ji Ze also looked up at her following his words.
Lu Xining: “He doesn’t have to.”
Ji Chao hesitated, “But I’d like to eat with my brother and sister. Mommy, can we bring him along?”
Facing Ji Chao’s hopeful look, Lu Xining couldn’t refuse, “Ask him what he wants.”
Ji Ze turned his face away: “I don’t want to go.”
Hmph! She didn’t really consider him her child, her heart was only with his brother and sister!
Ji Chao tempted him with toys, and Ji Ze pretended to reluctantly agree, but in reality, he was waiting all this time for Lu Xining to invite him.
But she just ignored him, and every time he thought about how she truly didn’t want him anymore, Ji Ze felt a bit like crying.
At that moment, a man’s cold voice came from behind, carrying a father’s sternness and displeasure.
“Ji Chao, Ji Ze.”
Ji Muye, as usual, was in his custom-tailored black suit, as if he had just stepped away from a meeting table.
His steady footsteps echoed with an authority and aura that others didn’t possess, making it impossible not to look up to him.
The three of them turned towards him simultaneously.
Their similar eyebrows and eyes clearly showed they were mother and son.
Liu Xixi lifted the gift box she was holding: “Xiao Chao, Xiao Ze, Auntie has brought your favorite cupcakes.”
Ji Chao politely declined, “Thank you, Aunt Liu, but we don’t like cupcakes anymore.”
Liu Xixi’s expression shifted slightly, “Is that so? Then, Auntie will bring something else next time.”
Whispers spread around them.
A single mother, a father followed by another woman.
This scene was all too familiar to many women.
“People say, which one is the first wife? Who is the mistress?”
“I guess the one wearing the purple dress is the first wife.”
“You can’t be sure, many mistresses nowadays act demurely; just wait and see.”
Ji Muye glanced around, startling the onlookers into lowering their heads, afraid to make eye contact.
The man’s voice was deep, “Where are you taking the child?”
Lu Xining, holding Ji Chao’s hand, spoke calmly.
“You said that I could see the children whenever I wanted, and today I want to take Ji Chao home for a meal. After dinner, I will bring him back.”
Ji Muye flatly refused, “Not today.”
Liu Xixi smirked and added, “Miss Lu, today Aye is taking the two children back to the Liu Family for dinner. Please hand the children over to us.”
Lu Xining suddenly laughed, “Hand them over?”
Her smile vanished, and her gaze hardened, “Even if you want to be a stepmother, you should wait until you are officially part of the Ji Family.”
Ji Muye’s expression darkened, “Lu Xining, can’t you speak properly?”
Lu Xining scoffed inwardly.
When had she not spoken properly?
It’s just that he always found her words unpleasant.
Ji Chao gripped Lu Xining’s hand tightly, leaning closer to her, while Ji Ze also looked up at her.
Both recalled that morning in Yunqiao Village.
Lu Xining ignored the smugness and provocation in Liu Xixi’s eyes and didn’t even glance at Ji Muye’s scowl.
She looked at Ji Chao and asked softly, “Xiao Chao, do you want to go with Dad to the Liu Family for dinner, or come home with Mom and your sister?”
Ji Chao didn’t hesitate, “I want to go home with Mom.”
Ji Ze hoped she would ask him too, but was again disappointed, yet he couldn’t help but draw closer to her.
Lu Xining, noticing his subtle movement, treated him coldly, not pushing him away or drawing nearer, like a stranger.
“Did you hear that? The child wants to come home with me.” @@novelbin@@
Ji Chao looked at his father and said, “Dad, you told us to bravely express our true thoughts.”
He squeezed his mother’s hand firmly, “I want to have dinner with Mom and my sister.”
“But I still love Dad very much; don’t be jealous.”
Indeed, a child taught by Ji Muye, giving a sweet jujube to the rejected person even after expressing his own thoughts.
Ji Muye’s gaze focused on Lu Xining’s eyes, but she only looked at the child, not sparing him a glance.
A sudden, unexplained pressure and irritation surged in his chest.
Ji Muye was silent for a moment: “Hmm.”
Lu Xining looked at him, surprised; she thought it would take more effort.
Unexpectedly, Ji Muye had agreed.
Her gaze moved to the woman beside him, Liu Xixi, whose face brightened, bashfully looking up at him.
Lu Xining instantly understood.
And in her heart, she was even more resolved.
Ji Muye had probably agreed to the children going with her for a dinner date with Liu Xixi today.
If there was a first time, there would be a second.
And how far away could the third or fourth time be?
Victory was ahead!
What do you think?
