Chapter 77: Chapter 77: Who is Nuonuo’s Father?

Song Henian’s calm and unflappable voice fell on the man’s ears but came with silent scorn.

Ji Muye’s gaze was as sharp as a blade, his eyes cold. “It’s none of your business.”

Seven years had passed.

Song Henian was no longer the impoverished handsome student working his way through college. After graduation, he had started his own business, and from a one-person studio to the technology elite he was today, he had stood his ground in Jingzhou based on his own abilities.

Even without the identity of the Song Family heir, he was still a well-known figure in Jingzhou’s business circles. The only reason he returned to the Song Family was to have more leverage in his encounters with Ji Muye.

That man’s strength and presence were simply too formidable.

...

Song Henian was not intimidated by his gaze and stated plainly, “Then my pursuit of Xining has nothing to do with Mr. Ji either.”

He looked squarely at him and said, “I like her, I really like her a lot!”

Those words…

Song Henian had wanted to tell Lu Xining that seven years ago, but he had felt inferior; he feared he couldn’t give her happiness and might even hold her back.

After learning that she had married Ji Muye, he worked even harder, as if his life depended on it, just to quickly close the gap between him and Ji Muye.

Even if it was just seeing her at some future banquet, attending with Ji Muye, just getting one distant glance at her would have satisfied him.

However, by the time he had finally made it into those circles, had the opportunity to attend a banquet with Ji Muye, he had never seen Lu Xining.

“Mr. Ji, allow me to kindly remind you, you and Xining obtained your divorce certificates two years ago.”

“She’s single, I’m single. Pursuing her is a matter of my heart. Whether she accepts me or not is her business, and it has nothing to do with you.”

Those last four words.

It was as if they were a counter to Ji Muye’s earlier remarks.

Ignoring the man’s chilling aura that seemed to crush everything around, Song Henian continued, “If my love is fortunate enough to be accepted by her, please rest assured, Mr. Ji, I will treat Ji Chao and Ji Ze as if they were my own.”

He had intended to also mention Lu Nuonuo, but seeing Ji Muye’s expression, it was clear he didn’t know that Little Dumpling was his biological daughter.

Song Henian hadn’t expected that Ji Muye, who was so feared in the business world that his adversaries quaked at the news of his approach, would be so clueless in matters of the heart.

Not only failing to recognize his own true feelings but even pushing others away.

Well, that was fine. It gave him the chance to pursue Lu Xining and to seek the possibility of expressing those past feelings, which had never been clearly articulated.

With a tight jawline and pursed lips, fingers digging into his palm, Ji Muye exuded an intimidatingly cold aura.

By then, Song Henian had already left in his car.

Standing like a statue at the door, even the wind brushing past him was careful and cautious, as if afraid to disturb the formidable figure before him.

Divorce, single, pursuit, treating them as his own…

Every word hopped on Ji Muye’s anger line, his fingertip trembling slightly, clenched tightly into a fist.

He closed his eyes and took several deep breaths in and out, barely managing to suppress the boiling blood raging from fury.

At that moment, Ji Muye’s pant leg was grabbed by a small hand.

He opened his eyes to see Lu Nuonuo, Little Dumpling, who had appeared out of nowhere, her hands wrapped around one of his legs, gazing up at him with a beaming smile.

She, having been coaxed by Lu Xining, couldn’t resist running out to find him as Ji Muye had not returned for some time.

Little Dumpling opened her arms to him, “Uncle, hold me.”

Ji Muye bent down to pick her up. “Nuonuo, why did you run out? Where’s your mom?”

He looked back at the door to the house, but there was no sign of Lu Xining.

While asking, he turned and walked towards the house.

The milk’s sweetness combined with the scent of candy steadied the restlessness in Ji Muye’s body; his cool cheeks were kissed by the little one.

Lu Nuonuo smiled, thanking him, “Thank you, Uncle.”

After the incident by the pond, Little Dumpling’s attitude towards Ji Muye had become much more affectionate, subtly showing signs of trust and reliance.

Ji Muye kissed the top of her head, “You’re welcome.”

Ji Chao and Ji Ze turned around for just a moment, then realized their little sister was gone, and immediately ran out to look for her.

Seeing her nestled in their dad’s arms, they both heaved a sigh of relief.

“Dad, it’s hot outside, quickly bring little sister back in.”

“Mom made us mung bean soup; come eat with us, Dad.”

At the mention of food, Lu Nuonuo perked up!

She clutched Ji Muye’s neck with one hand and pointed towards the house, exclaiming loudly, “Uncle, charge!”

Ji Muye was amused by her, “…Okay.”

Lu Xining had just brought out the mung bean soup she cooked when she met the man holding her daughter, his eyes a vast expanse of stars, filled with mystery.

She waved to the kids, “Come and have some mung bean soup.”

“Mom, I want a big bowl!”

“Mommy, mommy, me too, me too.”

“Nuonuo wants some too!”

After stating her own wants, Little Dumpling didn’t forget to call out for a bowl for Ji Muye, “Mommy, Uncle wants a big bowl too.”

A child’s affection is pure and straightforward.

Lu Xining knew that her daughter’s current reliance on Ji Muye was likely because of the earlier incident, creating a hero-worshipping mentality towards him.

She did not deliberately obstruct her daughter’s affection for Ji Muye. After all, Ji Muye was the children’s father.

Originally, due to the crushing disappointment of that trending story, she had decided not to tell Ji Muye about her pregnancy.

But now, seeing the fatherly love her two sons enjoyed, saying she owed nothing to her daughter would be impossible.

After the children finished their mung bean soup, they played in the toy room for a while and were then coaxed by Lu Xining to take their afternoon nap upstairs.

Just coming out of the master bedroom, she bumped into Ji Muye, who was waiting. His voice was low, with a trace of seeking confirmation.

“Xining, who is Nuonuo’s dad?”
