Vol 3 Chapter 66: Brotherhood in the Myriad Flames Cauldron
Mosquitoes!
Hearing the conversation between the Foundation Establishment rogue cultivators, Lin Jing’s body stiffened, and faces of old friends flashed before his eyes!
He was certain they were talking about the Cloud Sea Mosquito Beasts.
However, since this place was far from the Cloud Sea Mountains, it was understandable that these rogue cultivators didn’t recognize the Ten Terrors.
Back when the academy underwent its great teleportation event, Lin Jing and the mosquito beasts had been separated, each transported to different locations.
Given their vast numbers, it was highly probable that some had been sent to Qingzhou.
Lin Jing had long prepared himself for the worst, assuming the entire mosquito beast swarm had perished. After all, they were only truly formidable when gathered in a swarm. A lone mosquito beast, even at its peak, could be taken down by any Qi Refinement cultivator.
But now… it seemed some of them had managed to survive the harsh environment and even rebuild a new swarm!
"Since arriving in Qingzhou, the Dragon Carp hasn’t had any Longevity Blood Mosquitoes to eat. Looks like this trip won’t be a waste—I can reclaim this swarm.""Also, I’ve found the Qi Refinement-stage demon beasts I needed. They can all become brothers in the Myriad Flames Cauldron together.”
Lin Jing chuckled. With their rapid reproduction rate, mosquito beasts were the perfect alchemy ingredients. Unfortunately, their cultivation was too low—they could never break through to Foundation Establishment. Even if refined into pills that boosted cultivation, Lin Jing himself wouldn’t be able to use them.
However, they would be excellent resources for nurturing young sect disciples.
According to the rogue cultivators, the mosquito beasts were in Soul-Cleansing Mountain…
Soul-Cleansing Mountain
Located on the border between human and demon beast territories, this was one of the sixteen perilous regions of Qingzhou.
Its danger didn’t lie in the strength of its resident demon beasts but in the environment itself.
Soul-Cleansing Mountain emitted a strange toxic miasma that not only caused cultivators to fall ill but also eroded their souls if inhaled too much.
Only certain poison-attribute demon beasts could survive in such an environment.
Despite the dangers, the mountain was rich in rare spiritual herbs. The same miasma that harmed souls also nurtured Soul Restoration Grass, a local specialty known for repairing soul damage.
Many rogue cultivators risked their lives for this precious herb, using defensive spells to shield themselves as they quickly harvested and left.
The key was ensuring that no powerful poison-type beasts attacked during the process.
Lin Jing wasn’t sure how the mosquito beasts had adapted to this toxic environment, but if they were immune to it, then the mountain had become their perfect breeding ground—protecting them from extermination by cultivators.
“If I’m going to Soul-Cleansing Mountain to find the mosquito beasts, I might as well capture a few more demon beasts of other cultivation levels.”
“Foundation Establishment and Monster Core-stage beasts are manageable, but the Monster Kings in the mountain will be a problem. My preparations might go to waste against them.”
Lin Jing had planned to capture a Monster King, but these creatures could freely use divine abilities from their Monster Cores.
Even if he brought the Dragon Carp with him, a direct fight would be difficult.
But since he hadn’t yet settled on a target Monster King, the Ice Soul Gu had made ample preparations.
Against lower-level demon beasts, Lin Jing’s greatest advantage was illusion magic—not because illusions lacked offensive power, but because of their concealment abilities.
Using these abilities, the Ice Soul Gu wouldn’t have to engage in direct combat with weaker demon beasts. Instead… it could use poison.
Among the vast collection of spiritual plants he had stolen from the Sky Lion Clan, Lin Jing had selected several Grade-7 poison plants before leaving.
With the Dragon Carp’s help, he refined them into a batch of Grade-7 Poison Pills.
These pills were potent enough to work on opponents at his level.
The challenge, however, was delivering the poison. Without illusions, this would be much harder.
In addition, he carried a supply of Ice Soul Gu Poison—one of the deadliest toxins, even difficult for Nascent Soul cultivators to purge.
As long as he used illusions to remain hidden and successfully infected a Monster King with the Ice Soul Gu Poison, then catalyzed it with poison pills, even a Nascent Soul-level Monster King would be done for.
At least… that would work against a normal Monster King.
But the ones in Soul-Cleansing Mountain were poison-type creatures.
Even if Lin Jing successfully poisoned them, their natural resistance to toxins would be much stronger than ordinary Monster Kings.
A Grade-4 Poison Pill might even become nourishment for them instead.
While the Ice Soul Gu Poison could suppress their natural poison, it would take years for them to die from it—and Lin Jing didn’t have that kind of time.
A Better Target
Just as he was contemplating this issue, he noticed a wanted poster among the many bounty notices plastered on the walls of the rogue cultivator alliance hall.
WANTED: SCORCHING SUN MONSTER KING
A rogue Monster King from the Qingming Dao region.
It was known for eating humans.
Normally, it would feast on ordinary rogue cultivators, but one day, it accidentally devoured the descendant of a Half-Divine powerhouse from the Rogue Cultivator Alliance.
Since then, it had been relentlessly hunted.
Eventually, it fled into Soul-Cleansing Mountain.
Unlike native poison beasts, this Tiger King wasn’t a venomous creature.
However, its strong yang energy allowed it to protect its soul, enabling it to survive in the toxic mountain environment.
Taking advantage of the natural dangers, it had temporarily evaded capture.
The alliance had refused to give up, however, and had issued a bounty on it.
Lin Jing didn’t care about the bounty itself.
What interested him was that this was a non-poison-type Monster King in Soul-Cleansing Mountain.
“That changes things.”
“If I successfully poison the Scorching Sun Monster King, its yang energy will be depleted as it struggles to resist the Ice Soul Gu Poison.”
“Once its yang energy weakens, the mountain’s miasma will become a deadly weapon against it.”
“On top of that, unlike the poison-type beasts, it won’t be able to completely resist Grade-4 Poison Pills.”
Lin Jing’s eyes gleamed as he left the alliance hall, heading straight for Soul-Cleansing Mountain.
A Monk Walks Among Rogues
“What’s with that bald guy? He just walked in and left.”
“No clue. But why would a Buddhist cultivator even come to a rogue cultivator alliance? Aren’t they all from monasteries?”
The surrounding cultivators whispered among themselves as they watched Lin Jing go.
Into Soul-Cleansing Mountain
Whoosh!
Leaving the alliance, Lin Jing soared through the air, heading deeper into Soul-Cleansing Mountain while scanning for traces of the mosquito beasts.
During this time, his presence inevitably attracted the attention of some venomous creatures.
Of course, this was intentional.
Gliding over the forest canopy, he suddenly felt a sharp projectile whizz toward him—swish!
A venomous arrow shot upward from below.
A late-stage Foundation Establishment Poison Frog had ambushed him.
“One down.”
Lin Jing’s expression remained calm.
Raising his hand, golden Diamond Palm energy radiated with Buddhist light, crushing downward.
The venomous arrow struck the golden palm, but the Buddhist light instantly purified it.
With a sharp croak, the Poison Frog was caught in the golden grip and thrown into the Myriad Beast Circle.
What do you think?
