Chapter 24: The Concept of a Mechanized Beast
“What the heck!” Lín Jìng’s face turned black with frustration.
He had assumed the liquid flowing out of the Spirit Bamboo was Spirit Bamboo Sap, but it kept gushing out with such high pressure that even a water-jet technique from a cultivator at the important stage couldn’t compare.
He struggled to control the wildly spraying water.
Elder Yu had created a Mechanized Bamboo Dragon that could “generate fire from wood,” but this “wood generating water” was a bit much.
After sliding down the wall, Lín Jìng looked over at his Pine Leaf Mouse, which seemed equally baffled.
“Which deity in the upper realms gave the Glazed Immortal Eyes this unreliable power?” he muttered, exasperated.
The Pine Leaf Mouse, seeing that Lín Jìng was unharmed, spread its paws in confusion.
Perhaps it would be better to have Elder Black Bear try out any new items in the future. Experimenting themselves was far too risky!
“Good idea.” Lín Jìng nodded. Elder Black Bear, who was at the Monster Core stage, equivalent to a human’s Foundation Establishment stage, should have no trouble with this kind of small test.Setting down the blue Spirit Bamboo, Lín Jìng dipped his fingers in the bamboo water and took a sniff.
“It’s quite refreshing, without any sweetness. It doesn’t seem to have the medicinal properties of regular Spirit Bamboo Sap.”
“But it’s also not ordinary water; it feels more like the water of a spiritual spring, enriched by the ambient spirit energy of a rich spiritual environment.”
“If that’s the case, it might not have a significant effect, but it could still be used to water spiritual plants. Maybe it’ll even boost the yield and growth rate of our Spiritual Rice and Spiritual Beans.”
At his words, the Pine Leaf Mouse pointed to the large hole in the wall. Watering?
Wouldn’t this high-pressure flow blast the Spirit Rice out of the ground?
“We can collect it and then water as needed, and I think I understand its function now. Moving forward, it should be manageable,” Lín Jìng replied. “I read about a type of spiritual plant called the Sky Fountain Tree in one of the books.”
“It can gather moisture from the heavens and store it within itself. Once full, it sprays the stored water skyward, creating a natural fountain.”
“There’s an old tale about a village in the Ancient Celestial Kingdom where a child accidentally scraped the bark of a Sky Fountain Tree, leading the village to battle floods for three years!”
“This blue Spirit Bamboo seems to function similarly. Just now, it probably expelled all the water it had accumulated while mutating. So, as long as we don’t let it store water for too long, we should be able to drain it daily.”
The Pine Leaf Mouse looked at Lín Jìng in admiration. How did he know so much?
“Reading more books really isn’t a bad thing,” Lín Jìng said, adjusting imaginary glasses as he glanced at the Pine Leaf Mouse.
Cultivation life was ideal for this; reading so many books without any worry about nearsightedness.
“Oh, right.”
Suddenly, Lín Jìng’s eyes lit up. “I was wondering what kind of mechanized beast to create, and now I have an idea.”
“Squeak?”
“A complicated mechanized beast is beyond our abilities for now.”
“To get into the dining hall sooner, let’s start with a small, auxiliary mechanized beast.”
“We won’t bother with something that just moves around or with combat abilities like the Mechanized Bamboo Dragon. Instead… we’ll make a mechanized turtle that can automatically find its way around and spray water to irrigate the spiritual plants!” Lín Jìng slapped his palm in excitement at the thought.@@novelbin@@
“With a blue Spirit Bamboo that can gather ambient moisture, we can save a lot of effort.”
A mechanized turtle?
The Pine Leaf Mouse scratched its head with its long tail.
“Squeak?” Why a mechanized turtle and not a mechanized frog?
The Beast Taming Sect’s five foundational spirit beasts included the Rain Frog, a water-type beast known for summoning rain to irrigate spiritual plants. It was more familiar with Rain Frogs than turtles.
“Because I have the Longevity Body,” Lín Jìng explained.
“The turtle has always symbolized longevity. Don’t you think a mechanized turtle fits perfectly with the Longevity Body?”
He took out the manual on mechanized arts that Elder Yu had given him, along with the Soul Core.
The former held the key to crafting the mechanized turtle, and the latter… wouldn’t be needed just yet.
The mechanized turtle he envisioned would essentially be a glorified “watering can,” a simple construct. The Soul Core, however, served as the “heart” of advanced mechanized beasts, designed for more complex creations.
The Soul Core was the link between the mechanized beast and its creator, enabling the beast to act with the awareness and control of its maker during combat, making it more flexible and responsive.
…
After the Ascending Dragon Festival, Lín Jìng’s name spread across the Outer and even Inner Sects.
Though his reputation grew, Lín Jìng and the Pine Leaf Mouse continued their simple, focused routine. They studied what they needed to, stockpiled resources, and kept a low profile, rarely seen by other Outer Sect disciples.
To Lín Jìng, this wasn’t tedious. It wasn’t that he particularly enjoyed it, but his twenty-something years of life experience had taught him the value of patience and endurance.
More than that, the returns of cultivation and the slim chance of transcendence inspired him, making the hard work feel worthwhile.
But things were not so peaceful elsewhere.
In the Outer Sect’s Beast Fighting Arena…
Bang!
The echo of a powerful impact rang out as a Battle Ape, covered in blood with deep claw marks across its chest, collapsed lifelessly to the ground. Beside it lay He Yiming, the former number one of the Outer Sect, badly burned and writhing in pain beside his beast.
Seeing this, many Outer Sect disciples covered their mouths in shock. In ordinary sparring matches at the arena, even among rivals, it was rare for fights to become this brutal.
“My apologies, I got carried away,” said a black-clad youth stroking a sleek, predatory cat. “But Elder Li was right; the sect truly shelters a bunch of delicate flowers. Too weak.”
Many new Outer Sect disciples didn’t recognize him, but there were three other youths beside him, equally cold and indifferent.
It was clear they held no regard for He Yiming, the once-top scorer in the arena.
“Are… these people also from the Beast Taming Sect?” one Outer Sect disciple murmured in disbelief.
Nearby, Senior Brother Ziran, who had rushed over after hearing the commotion, took one look at their distinctive black uniforms adorned with blood-red patterns. His face paled, and he said in a grave tone, “They’re from the Outer Sect’s Demon-Hunting Hall. I can’t believe so many of them made it back alive this time.”
What do you think?
