Chapter 33 - 30 Coming Too Early
Chapter 33: Chapter 30 Coming Too Early
Nestled in the arms of Beast Tamer Qiao Sang, the Fire-Toothed Dog felt safe and plucked up the courage to look back in the direction it had just been staring.
“Ya!”
The sight made the fur of the Fire-Toothed Dog stand on end.
Gone!
Qiao Sang, realizing what the Fire-Toothed Dog was thinking, couldn’t help but feel speechless.
Who ever gets scared of their own shadow clone?
However, the Fire-Toothed Dog might not have realized that it was just its shadow clone.
Research shows that many Pet Beasts accidentally learn skills without realizing it.
Some acquire them over time as a natural progression, while others are stimulated by external factors, which suddenly activate their energy.
A recent event in the Lianbo District, where a competition led to a moderate civil dispute over compensation, had resulted from a Pet Beast suddenly acquiring and using a new skill.
Mr. Wang from Yuecheng had brought his Lafey Seed to watch the match from Row 16, Seat 21 in Section B.
It might have been the excitement of the match, but the Lafey Seed, stirred up, had tapped into its internal energy and unwittingly learned the “Sleep Powder” skill, casting it and causing about a dozen spectators from Rows 20, 21, and 22 to fall asleep and miss the entire match.
Mr. Wang afterward agreed only to refund their ticket costs, but some people had traveled from other districts especially for the match and demanded compensation for their emotional distress, travel, and accommodation expenses.
Mr. Wang refused, leading to a standoff that made the news.
Like them, the Fire-Toothed Dog had unconsciously learned a new skill due to external influences; it had been the same when it had learned “Spark”.
Now, the Fire-Toothed Dog was startled, and the imbalance of energy within made the barely-mastered Shadow Clone disappear. @@novelbin@@
However, the Fire-Toothed Dog mistook this for a paranormal event, still vividly remembering the horror movie it had seen recently.
“Ya ya ya!”
“Ya ya, ya ya!”
“Ya ya!”
The Fire-Toothed Dog pointed its paws toward where the shadow clone had vanished and kept gesturing to Qiao Sang.
“That was your own shadow clone,” Qiao Sang explained helplessly.
“Ya?”
The Fire-Toothed Dog suddenly stopped its gestures, its dark eyes filled with confusion.
“Congrats, you’ve learned a new skill,” Qiao Sang laughed.
The Fire-Toothed Dog seemed to understand.
It paused for a moment, feeling and adjusting the energy within itself.
Instantly, an identical Fire-Toothed Dog appeared beside Beast Tamer Qiao Sang’s feet, even the fur messed up from dodging the ball looked exactly the same.
“Ya!”
Excited, the Fire-Toothed Dog immediately jumped down from Qiao Sang’s arms and began circling its shadow clone, inspecting it non-stop.
Having learned this new skill, the Fire-Toothed Dog also forgot about continuing to practice dodging the ball, and Qiao Sang naturally didn’t bring it up.
As they left the baseball training facility and walked past the Pet Beast Spa, Qiao Sang felt a twinge of regret.
Had it not been for spending 5000 Alliance Currency last night, he would have definitely taken the Fire-Toothed Dog in for some relaxation today.
Back home, Qiao Sang turned on his computer and searched for a streamer famous for pet massage techniques.
He randomly clicked on a live stream and called over the Fire-Toothed Dog, mimicking the massage techniques demonstrated by the streamer.
Although we can’t afford the Pet Beast Spa, we can surely do it ourselves!
“How does it feel?” Qiao Sang asked gently.
“Ya.”
The Fire-Toothed Dog half-heartedly responded.
It lay on its side, its head just facing the live stream screen.
On the screen, a burly man was massaging a tough-skinned Razorback Hog, which occasionally let out comfortable grunts.
Watching the live stream and feeling its own Beast Tamer’s massage, the Fire-Toothed Dog couldn’t help but feel something was off…
…
…
The next morning.
At 6:10 A.M.
Qiao Sang, sporting dark circles under her eyes, appeared in the living room and looked around, her mother still asleep in the bedroom.
It was, indeed, a bit early…
It was another match day for the Interstellar Cup that she had bet on last night.
Thinking back on how she couldn’t sleep the night before after losing the match, she reluctantly chose not to watch last night to avoid losing sleep again, which would affect her mood for today’s special recruitment exam at Shengshui Middle School.
And yet, the more she thought about it, the less she could sleep…
She would think about how the Interstellar Cup was going one moment, and then think about the special recruitment exam the next, enduring until 2 A.M. before finally falling asleep.
Thinking about things so late meant she woke up early too, naturally waking before her alarm went off.
Qiao Sang listlessly prepared breakfast, while the Fire-Toothed Dog wagged its tail eagerly waiting to eat next to her.
This guy seemed pretty lively…
Not bad, her efforts in massaging it yesterday weren’t in vain.
After breakfast, Qiao Sang left a portion in the pot for her mother and set out for the subway station.
Shengshui Middle School was located in the Beidian District of Hangkang City, quite far from where Qiao Sang lived.
If she took the bus, she would have to transfer between four or five stops, but by taking the subway, Line 2 would take her directly there.
…
Shengshui Middle School.
Outside in the open area, four or five people were scattered around sitting on parallel rows of benches.
“Qin Wen, has Luo Qian not arrived yet?” asked a middle-aged man with a slicked-back hairdo and a sizable belly.
There’s something about middle-aged men with big bellies that gives off an oily déjà vu feeling.
However, the man in question, with his slicked-back hair revealing sharp facial contours, emanated a stability that made one think he might have been quite handsome in his younger days.
“Not yet, I’ve called and urged him, he said he was stuck on the road,” the woman in professional attire beside him responded.
“Bullshit, he was probably out partying in some bar until late last night and couldn’t get up, even posted it on Moments, not at all behaving like a teacher,” Zheng Pingguo said with a sneer.
“It was you who hired him at this school,” said the man, leisurely reading through a stack of papers.
“Sun Boyi, don’t start blaming me now, you voted in favor too,” Zheng Pingguo retorted discontentedly.
“It was because you begged me with a Coagulating Water pearl to vote for it,” Sun Boyi stated indifferently.
“You!” Zheng Pingguo was left speechless from anger.
“All right, enough already, let’s focus on what’s important. Do we have any promising candidates among this batch of specially recruited students?” the man asked, trying to smooth things over and change the subject.
“Any real talents would have already been guaranteed admission,” Zheng Pingguo replied, still heated.
“But hold up, we actually do have one,” Sun Boyi’s gaze froze on a particular line on the paper, “You know Lu Liangye from Taidan Middle School, right? He made the news half a year ago.”
“The kid who awakened his powers on his own just as he started junior high?” Qin Wen asked.
“That’s the one,” Sun Boyi answered.
Most children who awaken on their own do so around the age of 15, but Lu Liangye awakened shortly after he turned 14 and just started junior high.
If it weren’t for the fact that the middle school entrance exams had already ended, and the schools had distributed all their admission quotas and classes had started, Lu Liangye might have been able to skip a grade to a Beast Taming High School.
“Why wasn’t he guaranteed admission?” Qin Wen continued to inquire.
“They say he hasn’t been attending school much since his awakening, so his academic grades fell behind,” Sun Boyi explained.
Qin Wen nodded in understanding.
Probably got a Pet Beast under contract, couldn’t stand the monotony of just reading books.
If that’s really the case, then he really is a promising student, Lu Liangye has been contracted with a Pet Beast for over half a year now, he must be stronger than his peers.
…
Outside Shengshui Middle School.
Qiao Sang sat on the edge of a flowerbed, daydreaming.
She had arrived too early.
The doors were not yet open…
What do you think?
