Beast Taming: Starting From Zero

Chapter 581: Memories

Chapter 581: Memories

"Mumu..."

As the creature regained composure, it heard the question and silently took a step back.

"You don't want to?" Qiao Sang understood its thoughts without needing Yaobao to translate, just by watching its actions.

In fact, she had already captured the creature and could have simply left it here without considering its wishes. However, the creature's earlier actions were clearly for the sake of the group of Scale Armored Moths in the house.

Without it, no one would know when the Scale Armored Moths would be discovered.

Moreover, according to the description from the task issuer, the creature only made a mess outside the door and tried to cause destruction inside the house; it did not attack anyone.

Now, thinking about it, creating a mess might have been a way to make the task issuer unable to bear it and move out, while the destruction could have been a way to make the issuer discover the Scale Armored Moths.

Facing such a benevolent creature, Qiao Sang couldn't bring herself to just abandon it, especially since wild Pet Beasts also have their preferred environments, and living in an unsuitable place could shorten their lifespan.

"What kind of environment do you like? I'll look for one for you," Qiao Sang said.

"Mumu..."

Only then did the creature realize that the human in front of it was genuinely asking for its opinion. With a hesitant expression, it uttered a sound, asking if it could be returned.

"No." With Xiao Xunbao's translation, Qiao Sang immediately refused without a second thought.

Completing the task was the priority. If the creature insisted on going back, then she would have no choice but to leave it here.

"Mumu."

The creature first fell silent, then its expression became resolute.

It just wanted to go back for one last look, and after that, it would leave.

"Xun Xun."

Xiao Xunbao mimicked the creature's expression and tone as it translated.

Qiao Sang gazed at the creature and asked after a moment of silence:

"Who do you want to see?"

The creature looked at the human in front of it without speaking.

After a few seconds, Qiao Sang spoke with a tone of resignation:

"I understand."

...

The task handover documents from the Beast Taming Center were all synchronized to her phone, clearly indicating the task's location.

After retracting Lubao back into the Beast Taming Codex, Qiao Sang left Nadapeng and his swollen face, along with his Pet Beast, and followed the navigation to the task issuer's home as indicated on the document.

When she arrived at the destination, she found a large group of onlookers gathered at the door.

Qiao Sang pushed through the crowd and saw the task issuer arguing with two police officers in uniform.

"So much time has passed! You haven't even located the spot! What if something happened to that child?" Mai Ya shouted angrily.

That child? Is she talking about me? Qiao Sang was stunned for a moment.

"Ma'am, please calm down," the black police officer said irritably:

"We have arrived as quickly as possible. You didn't provide us with the exact location, and finding the right direction takes time. You know we are always understaffed here."

Mai Ya cursed:

"What use are you police if..."

Before she could finish, Qiao Sang stepped forward, cradling Yaobao, and feigned ignorance as she asked, "Has something happened?"

These brief seven words made Mai Ya stop her cursing.

She paused, then seemed to think of something, her expression tensing up as she glanced up at the sky to check for any sign of Scale Armored Moths. Upon seeing no trace of them, Mai Ya visibly relaxed.

Once the police officers knew that the black-haired young girl was the person to be rescued from the emergency call, they quickly left without delay.

The words spoken by the black police officer earlier were not a brush-off; indeed, the police stations in the Lower Districts were always short-handed.

With the spectacle over, the surrounding crowd of onlookers quickly dispersed.

"Are you hurt?" Mai Ya asked with concern.

To swell up like a pig's head, I wonder if that counts as an injury... Qiao Sang shook her head and said:

"No."

"I've heard that the Scale Armored Moth's scale powder is toxic and can cause allergic reactions. If not treated promptly, over time, it can even lead to hallucinations," Mai Ya said with sincere admiration:

"I never thought that with so many Scale Armored Moths around, you wouldn't get any scales on you."

Qiao Sang coughed:

"Actually, I did get a bit on me, but I have a Pet Beast that can heal, so it took care of it."

This Pet Beast could actually perform healing skills... Mai Ya automatically ruled out the possibility of the Spectral-type Pet whose name she couldn't remember, and the Little Steel Falcon, as well as another Pet, looking shocked at Yaobao, who was currently being held in Qiao Sang's arms.

As the two chatted, the Mumu looked back reluctantly at the little girl who failed to notice it and eventually turned to leave, its silhouette fading away into the distance.

Only Gangbao noticed it.

It silently watched Mumu's retreating figure, not saying anything.

It was only when Mumu was about to disappear at the turn that Gangbao looked at its own Beast Tamer and remembered her mission was to send Mumu away from this place.

If Mumu didn't go far and came back, she would probably be in a tough spot...

"Gang Gang."

Gangbao heaved a sigh internally and patted Qiao Sang's shoulder with its wing to give a reminder.

When Qiao Sang turned her head, Gangbao pointed with its wing in the direction Mumu had gone.

Qiao Sang raised an eyebrow and called out:

"Xiao Xunbao."

"Xun~"

Xiao Xunbao cried out and its eyes emitted a blue light.

The next second, Mumu was back where it started.

"Mumu..."

Mumu looked bewildered.

It was only then that Mai Ya remembered Mumu's existence.

"Mumu's actions before must have been to remind you all that there were Scale Armored Moths in the room," said Qiao Sang.

Upon hearing this, Mai Ya was stunned for a moment, then realized, "No wonder it kept sneaking in trying to attack the wall in the room."

But on second thought, she asked in confusion, "But why would it do that?"

"That's a question for Mumu," Qiao Sang said, looking at Mumu.

Mai Ya and the little girl both looked over as well.

"Mumu..."

Mumu showed a puzzled expression.

Suddenly, the little girl tugged at her mother's clothes and said crisply:

"Mom, it looks just like the Pet Beast in that trash can."

Upon hearing this, Mumu's body stiffened.

"What Pet Beast in a trash can?" Mai Ya asked.

"The Pet Beast in the trash can, don't you remember? I even gave it some food," the little girl explained.

"That can't be," Mai Ya said with a smile, denying it.

She remembered that incident well; it was two years ago.

It was raining that day when she picked up her daughter from the kindergarten; they had also bought some corn cakes. Just as they had not walked far from the purchase, she noticed a trash can by the side of the road shaking.

Her daughter was scared and immediately hid behind her, and as she was about to lead her daughter away, a very small wild Pet Beast crawled out of the trash.

The little beast looked fierce, but sadly its young age meant its fierceness had no deterrent effect.

The daughter, probably seeing that it was very small, wasn't afraid anymore and even gave it the corn cake they had just bought.

The reason why she remembered the incident so clearly was that the little beast had a dumbfounded and cute expression when it saw the corn cake being offered to it, quite unlike the wild Pet Beasts she had in her memory.

As Mai Ya recalled the past, she continued:

"That wasn't Mumu, that was a little..."

At this point, Mai Ya paused, stunned.

Larva Beast, is Mumu's juvenile form...
