Beast Taming: Starting From Zero

Chapter 687: Sky Battle Over Water

Jiujing Amusement Park.

Night had fallen, and the amusement park glowed with a dazzling, dreamlike brilliance.

As the most popular amusement park in 1st District, it saw a constant stream of visitors every day.

After buying tickets, Qiao Sang carried Lubao and, following the signs, arrived at the water-type pet entertainment zone.

Jiujing Amusement Park had built nine themed areas based on the pet attributes most loved by beast masters, according to past surveys.

These were: Dragon, Fairy, Psychic, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Flying, and Fighting types.

Beast masters who owned pets with corresponding attributes could bring their pets to the related theme zones to participate in various amusement activities. If they achieved first place in any event, they would be exempt from paying the event fee.

Among all water-type pets, Lubao was one of the top in terms of appearance, despite not being a Chaosu Star-ranked pet.

Her stunning, never-before-seen appearance immediately caught the attention of the crowd the moment she appeared in the water-type area.

People only whispered among themselves, pulling out pet identifiers or phones to take pictures, but no one came too close.

"Lu?"

Lubao ignored the stares and glanced around, calling out to ask if this was the place to play.

"Yap."

Yabao, following beside his beast master, nodded in agreement after hearing Lubao’s words.

Qiao Sang laughed and said, "Don’t worry, many of these activities involve battles too."

She had considered taking Lubao directly to the pet battle arena, but losing there meant elimination, and battles were conducted one by one, not the best way to quickly gather points.

Only if she could take out a group of enemies at once, like Yabao did with the Scaled moths before, could she quickly rack up points.

Unfortunately, unlike the lower districts, 1st District rarely had wild pet clean-up missions. She had to find another way for Lubao to fight multiple opponents at once.

Qiao Sang scanned the nearby attractions and finally fixed her gaze on an event called "Sky Battle Over Water."

She recalled Elma mentioning it once during casual conversation at the clubhouse.

In the water-type area, there was a game where water-type pets would wear equipment fitted with buttons and be tied to flight devices. As they played over the water, they would be launched into the air at random times and then fall back down.

During this, they would use water-type skills to attack each other, aiming to hit the buttons to make them light up. Once a pet’s button lit up, it was eliminated. The last pet remaining on the water would be the winner and would not have to pay the participation fee.

Knocking opponents unconscious was also fine, it was quite common in competitive amusement events like this.

The park even had a free treatment area set up specifically for this.

Chaosu Star-ranked beast masters usually brought their pets to participate in purposeful activities like this rather than pure entertainment, which made skill-training games especially popular.

Qiao Sang decided on "Sky Battle Over Water" and took Lubao to line up.

"Remember, just use water-type skills during the game, no ice-type skills." Qiao Sang instructed carefully.

"Only water-type skills are allowed."

"Lu."

Lubao nodded seriously.

"You’ll be suddenly launched into the air, don't be scared, the equipment is safe. It’s just to make attacking harder." Qiao Sang added with concern.

"Lu."

Lubao nodded again, indicating she understood.

The rules were publicly posted, and she had already seen them.

"Also, if a pet’s button has already turned red from being hit, don't keep attacking them." Qiao Sang continued.

"Lu."

Lubao nodded.

"And one more thing."

Qiao Sang said as something else occurred to her, "This is just an amusement event. It’s okay if you don’t win first place. Don’t feel pressured, we can keep trying."

"Lu…"

Lubao felt her beast master was being a little too naggy.

"Yap!"

Just as Qiao Sang was about to say more, Yabao wagged his tail and called out, indicating he wanted to play too.

"Next time." Qiao Sang said, looking down.

"This one's only for water-types. I’ll take you to the fire-type zone next time."

"Yap…"

Yabao drooped his tail, looking a little disappointed.

Soon, though, he perked up and eagerly watched the ongoing "Sky Battle Over Water."

Looks like Yabao really wasn’t afraid of water anymore... Qiao Sang felt a small sense of relief.

Twenty minutes later, it was finally Qiao Sang’s turn.

The staff, seeing Lubao, showed a look of amazement and carefully helped her into her equipment.

"Good luck." Qiao Sang encouraged.

"Yap!" Yabao cheered as well.

"Lu."

Lubao glanced at her beast master, then at Yabao, before striding confidently toward the artificial pool where the event would take place.

Her expression didn’t look like she was going to a game, she looked like she was heading into an important match.

The "Sky Battle Over Water" had thirty pets participating per round.

Various water-type pets, each different in appearance, wore black vests with buttons and jetpacks controlled by the staff.

Qiao Sang and Yabao found a spot in the viewing area to watch.

Here sat the beast masters whose pets were participating in this round.

"What's your pet’s name? It’s really beautiful." Asked a nearby woman with black hair, looking to be in her early twenties, leaning over curiously.

She then looked down at Yabao and added, "And this one too, I’ve never seen it before."

"That one’s called Ice Xilu, and this one’s Fire Qilu." Qiao Sang replied.

"Even the names sound nice." The woman praised.

Qiao Sang didn’t mind making casual conversation with someone polite.

"What’s your water pet?"

As they spoke, the event began.

Many blue-colored water-type pets were suddenly launched into the air by their jetpacks, eliciting screams all over.

The woman pointed at a small water-type pet in the air with a shell on its back and laughed, "That little Shellmoney Turtle is mine. It's timid and afraid of heights. I wanted it to play this to build some courage."

No sooner had she spoken than a water gun, thicker than Shellmoney Turtle’s whole body, blasted it squarely.

"Shell shell!"

Already screaming, the Shellmoney Turtle fell back into the pool, then floated to the surface with its eyes closed, looking almost peaceful.

The woman: …

Qiao Sang stayed silent beside her.

She had clearly seen that it was Lubao who blasted Shellmoney Turtle…

"Yap Yap!"

Yabao stared excitedly at the pool, cheering for his teammate, clearly thrilled by Lubao’s performance.

Qiao Sang: …

Thank goodness Lubao wasn’t standing next to her right now…
