Chapter 707 - 205: Inexplicably_2
Chapter 707: Chapter 205: Inexplicably_2
Having him entertain Lady Lisandra was quite fitting.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, please follow me.”
After exchanging polite pleasantries with Lady Lisandra, Cowell Ludville led both parties into a large conference room.
A long conference table was placed in the center of the room.
The conference table was utterly bare.
Not even a cup of water was prepared.
...
This offered a glimpse into the Tower of the Great Sage Mitchell’s attitude towards this visit by Ravensmouth College.
It was just short of shouting, “You’re not welcome here!”
Both teams took their seats on either side of the table, creating a standoff.
“On this trip, I not only represent Ravensmouth College, but also the Flame and Metal Trading Company, and the White Tower Alliance,” Lady Lisandra began, playing host and throwing down the gauntlet as soon as she sat down.
Cowell Ludville responded breezily, without any hint of surprise, “Lisandra, I will not discuss this with you. Let them deal with the small matters. What I wish to discuss with you is cosmic law.”
With these words, the attempt by Lady Lisandra to provoke Cowell Ludville backfired you could say.
At first listen, it sounded normal, but if you lingered on the punch, you could taste its quality.
He was mocking that Lady Lisandra was dealing with matters not worthy of her status, too menial indeed.
Slightly pretentious, wasn’t it?
Subtly, Cowell Ludville gained the upper hand.
One must admit, the art of language was indeed worth pondering.
Fletcher Domingo, the acting deputy of the Ravensmouth delegation, responded bluntly, “Right, we will handle the trifles. As for significant matters, it’s up to you to discuss. Uh…”
As Lady Lisandra began to look concerned and some members of the Great Sage Tower negotiation team were on the verge of laughter…
Fletcher Domingo hesitated before changing the topic, speaking mysteriously, “Regarding significant matters, Lady Lisandra can certainly make decisions on behalf of the Diomand Family; can Sage Ludville make the final decision? I’m not doubting, just a tad curious.”
As we all know, the Diomand Family is more or less Ravensmouth College.
As long as the decisions made by Lady Lisandra were not outrageous, the Diomand Family would back them up.
Thus, she could certainly make decisions on behalf of Ravensmouth College.
Although Cowell Ludville, a Level Six Sage, was in the core leadership of the Tower of the Great Sage Mitchell and ranked highly, he was not a member of the Mitchell Family after all.
There were many things he could not make the final decision on.
No matter how senior a professional manager is, they could not escape the essence of being an employee!
This comeback directly hit Cowell Ludville’s sore spot and successfully regained control of the situation.
Meanwhile, on the negotiation team of the Great Sage Tower, the Tier 2 wizard whose face bore a smile, quickly concealed his facial expression.
He feared that another second later, Sage Ludville, who was clearly affronted, would smack him dead with a gaze.
One must say, being blunt can often produce remarkable effects.
Lady Lisandra had some doubts, wondering if Fletcher Domingo had been playing dumb for nearly a hundred years.
However, thinking about her own brother Frist’s judgment of character, she quickly dismissed this doubt.
She just took it as a fortuitous miscalculation.
An unexpected joy.
After a brief verbal joust, the two parties reached a stalemate.
Cowell Ludville quickly regained his composure, and without missing a beat, led the likewise composed Lady Lisandra to the connecting reception room of the conference room for a private chat.
Leaving the teams of both sides to begin their negotiations and tug of war.
Within the Ravensmouth College emissary group, in terms of actual status, Wizard Renée and Link were on par.
However, Link didn’t take on any significant part in the negotiations, so there was no need for him to speak much.
The two teams went back and forth, neither conceding, resulting in a stalemate.
The negotiation scene was extremely heated.
If the individuals present weren’t at least First Level Wizards, there would likely be a maelstrom of disorderly banter.
Despite this, the two sides argued from morning to dusk, until the sun set, without a consensus even on the first point for negotiation.
Both sides were stubborn, and though they shared their opinions freely, they quietly signaled that they couldn’t be bothered with the opposition.
“Therefore, given these points, we propose that the Tower of the Great Sage Mitchell, as a representative of the Mitchell District, should be fully informed and have decision-making power on the matter of the special ‘Alien Guest’.
That’s why Wizard Link Grande, who escorted the Witch Elise Clark, the special ‘Alien Guest,’ through the first trial, should actively and thoroughly report to us.
He must answer our questions unconditionally.”
After the Tier 3 Wizard from the Great Sage’s negotiation team grandly stated their contributions and achievements for the Tower, he surprisingly turned the conversation towards Link Grande, who had been quiet all day long.
Attentively listening the whole day, Link didn’t expect that the originally unrelated issue about the captured wizards from the Raging Gold Trading Company and the White Tower Alliance by the Great Sage Tower would somehow turn towards him.
In a little while, today’s negotiations would be over.
Link’s face was expressionless, gazing directly at the Tier 3 Wizard.
The others were staring directly at Link, too.
Even Sage Fletcher Domingo, the vice rep of the Ravensmouth College emissary group, rather than taking the matter into hand or switching the topic, was waiting for Link’s response.
Witch Renee Clarke opened her mouth wanting to say something, but when her ear twitched, she swallowed her words.
Link steadied his gaze on the Tier 3 wizard, showing no sign of wanting to say anything.
The conference room, noisy all day, fell into an odd silence.
“You…”
For some reason, this Tier 3 wizard felt uncomfortable under Link Grande’s emotionless gaze and started to speak.
“You what?”
Link finally uttered his first words since stepping into the Tower of the Great Sage.
This Tier 3 wizard swallowed his spit and sought to calm his nerves from the unnerving stare. He then managed to ask in a steady voice, “When will you be reporting to us and when can we question you?”
Link smiled and counterasked, “Since when does the status and rules of the Tower of the Great Sage Mitchell outweigh the High Council’s?”
As soon as he spoke, the expressions of the five wizards from the Great Sage Tower, including a Level Five Sage, all changed significantly.
Nobody was supposed to pose such provocative questions.
Did the High Council, with five saints, not have the right to make arbitrary decisions and equate any wizard organization with them?
But sadly enough, Link’s words were unflawed and quite reasonable.
In the matter of the special ‘Alien Guest’, the High Council had accepted and approved Ravensmouth College’s claim application, acknowledging that the special ‘Alien Guest’ Elise Clark belonged to Ravensmouth College.
After all, what the High Council needed wasn’t the special ‘Alien Guest’ herself, but the portal to another parallel universe.
The demand, or rather, command, put forth by the Tier 3 wizard of the Great Sage Tower of Mitchell, was simply making a fuss over nothing. Its utter nonsense.
There was absolutely no problem with how Link had responded.
“Hehehe…”
At this moment, Sage Fletcher Domingo suddenly burst into laughter.
All eyes turned towards him, releasing the Great Sage Tower from the focused attention, interrupting the bizarre atmosphere in the conference room.
After ending his laughter, Sage Fletcher Domingo stood up and exclaimed, “We’ve been bickering all day and haven’t gotten anything done. It’s meaningless. Let’s end it here for today, and continue tomorrow.”
Before leaving, Sage Fletcher Domingo emphasized, “Everyone should rest well and bring their brains with them when they come to negotiate tomorrow. Let’s not hear any more foolish talks.”
After speaking, Fletcher Domingo left the conference room without bothering about Lady Lisandra for his allocated place of stay at the Tower of the Great Sage.
The remaining members of the Ravensmouth College emissary group followed him out in single file.
In the guestroom…
Lady Lisandra watched Cowell Ludville, and sighed deeply:
“The Great Sage Tower really does produce talents!”
What do you think?
