Becoming Professor Moriarty’s Probability

Chapter 228: The Final Problem (3)

“Isaac…”

“……..”

“Please, don’t do this…”

While I blankly stared at Adler, who was burying his head in my nape, a cold yet slightly trembling voice came from the front.

“I am Professor Moriarty… your professor…”

“……”

“Have you perhaps forgotten…?”

Although I didn’t know much about her, looking at her pleading expression made me feel like I was experiencing a cognitive dissonance.

If Holmes or Inspector Lestrade had seen this, they might have suffered severe psychological damage.

“Please stop doing this…”

“……”

“I wish to spend my future with you…”

“… Professor.”

As I was trying to ignore the professor while having such thoughts, Adler’s voice came from beside me.

“The professor is good at almost everything… but acting is not one of them.”

“… Tsk.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the professor’s face, which had been on the verge of tears, suddenly turned expressionless at the drop of a hat.

“Acting is indeed hard. I tried imitating those who begged for their lives in front of me, but it seems the situation wasn’t right?”

“That, and another reason…”

“And what would that be?”

“… I just can’t feel any emotions in your words.”

Was it my imagination, or did her gaze waver for a moment?

“You still don’t understand, do you…? Emotions, I mean.”

“… There’s no need to understand. My love for you is all that matters.”

“But, Professor…”

“Don’t even think about bringing up that damned eye colour theory!”

A surge of emotion, absent just moments ago, is now evident in her sudden outburst.

“I clearly want you. And it would terribly hurt me to not have you by my side. I always want to keep you close. How is that different from love?”

“……..”

“See? Even you can’t answer that.”

However, with my limited understanding, there seemed to be some merit in the professor’s rationale.

The mechanism behind the colouration of irises still remains an unexplained mystery even to this date, just like love.

It wasn’t impossible to label the feelings Professor harboured as love.

“And that theory also applies to this vile woman that popped up out of nowhe…”

While I was lost in thought and gazing blankly at the professor, Professor Moriarty also turned her gaze to me and abruptly stopped mid-sentence.

“……..”

And then, she gave me a blank stare, silent as she kept gazing at me like that.

… What’s gotten into her?

“This really is terrible timing…”

As I tilted my head, wondering if something was on my face, Adler scratched his head beside me and muttered in a tired voice.

“Let’s go, Miss Watson.”

“Uh, where to…?”

“Where do you think? You’ve planned the whole abduction course, haven’t you? Let’s just stick to that.”

“Wait a minute. What about the escape funds…”

“There’s no time for that. I’ll cover the abduction costs, so let’s just get out of here.”

Then Adler quickly took my arm and began leading me out of the house.

“… Just one question.”

“I’m sorry, Professor. That spell can’t hold you for even three minutes now, so…”

Despite trying to ignore the Professor’s words coming from behind in a low voice,

“You knew what I was like and yet, you approached me first. It was you who affirmed me and wanted to make me the queen of the underworld.”

“…….”

“And now, you’re trying to abandon me…?”

I paused momentarily upon hearing her words.

“Since the organisation became robust and I could move the back alleys alone, you’ve abruptly changed. It doesn’t seem like a mere coincidence to me.”

“That’s…”

“Were you planning to abandon me from the very start…?”

Suddenly, Adler started biting her lips, chaotic emotions swirling in his eyes.

What’s going on…?

The expression he wore was distinctly different from what I had seen before.

If his previous demeanour was sly and relaxed, like wearing a mask,

His current expression was like that of the old Neville…

“Isaac…”

As I glanced at him, glanced at his demeanour that had abruptly shifted, and was lost in thought, a chilling voice leaked from the Professor whose head was quietly bowed down.

“Just so you know, it’s not three minutes but three seconds until the seal breaks.”

“”………!!!””

In the next moment,

“Shit…”

“Wait a moment!”

I was being dragged by Adler, both of us sprinting down the street with all our might,

“Let’s see how well you can run.”

Leaving the staggering Professor behind.

. . . . .

Due to the professor’s fierce pursuit, Adler and I had to sprint for nearly thirty minutes before we inevitably had to split up to deceive our pursuers.

“Uh, um…”

Several hours after parting ways, I, transformed by Adler’s disguise magic, found myself on an express train headed to Europe from the Victoria Station.

This is strange, right? This should be the right compartment…..

He had run off in the opposite direction, insisting that we meet at this seat at this exact time.

There’s only a hunchback old man here…

But sitting there was not Adler, but an old man with a stooped posture.

It was unlikely for the old man to be Adler. I had seen him morph into a young journalist before we parted, moreover, his physique was different from the old man before me, so I was positive the man wasn’t Adler.

Have I been… deceived again?

As I stood there dazed, such a thought couldn’t help but cross my mind.

… I don’t even know how many times it’s been now.

A sense of futility enveloped me. I had trusted him this time, yet I realised I had no basis for trusting someone who had never kept his word even once.

“Haah…”

Drained of the energy to even disembark from the train, I slumped into the seat, head bowed.

- Click...!

At that moment, a cold metal sensation touched my temple, sending a shiver through my body.

“You, you’re in the way.”

“Ah…”

Turning my head, I saw a small girl pointing a long air gun at me.

Was her name Celestia Moran?

Holmes had said she was as skilled as Inspector Lestrade.

If that were true, reaching into my coat now would be pointless.

- Click...

With that thought, my hand trembled, and as the girl ruthlessly muttered and placed her finger on the trigger, I squeezed my eyes shut.

“A son of a bitch with only a big dick and good looks, that’s all you are…”

I cursed Adler for perhaps the last time in my life, beginning to brace myself internally for the end.

“Moran.”

“……!”

Just then, a quiet voice echoed, forcing me to open my eyes as tears welled up.

“M-Master?”

“… It’s rude to draw a gun inside a train.”

The stooped old man had vanished, and in his place was the familiar bastard I knew all too well.

“You’re frightening the passengers.”

“But, but…”

- Snap!

With a flick of his hand, the pale-faced, trembling passengers around us suddenly lost consciousness, slumping down.

“Put it down and take a seat.”

As Adler once again lowered his voice, Moran, who had been hesitating, lowered the gun she had been pointing at me with a sullen look and squeezed into the seat next to him.

“………”

And then, there was silence…

“… I’m sorry for being just a pretty-faced son of a bitch.”

“Um, ahem.”

In the silence, Adler, wearing a subtle smile, whispered those words to me. I could only cough awkwardly and do my best to avoid his gaze.

“Uh…”

Thanks to that, I naturally looked out the window and soon found myself at a loss for words.

“””………..”””

Charlotte Holmes, Inspector Lestrade, the Phantom Thief Lupin, along with Princess Clay and Silver Blaze whom Holmes had warned about.

Behind them, the frost-faced Hound of Baskervilles, a person that I can only presume to be Jill the Ripper, a tense look on her face, and individuals in suits that I can only assume as Mycrony’s attendants.

All these people were blocking just one person.

Yes, surprisingly, it was none other than Professor Jane Moriarty who they were blocking. The professor who had chased us persistently all the while.

- Grrrrrr...

Even so, the professor was more concerned about the numerous eyes of the citizens focused on the sudden commotion rather than the individuals gathered there to block her.

“If this place weren’t so crowded and ripe for rumours, it’s clear what would have happened.”

“That was really close…”

“Moran, how did you get here?”

As she quietly breathed a sigh of relief, Adler, who had been looking out the window with a grim expression, asked the girl next to him.

“They sent me on the train. They said I would be safest from the master’s clutch…”

“… What does that mean?”

“I wonder about that too.”

She responded with a chilly voice, her face looking incredibly serious.

Could a 12-year-old even have such an expression?

Adler seemed oblivious, but the future in eight years was shaping up to be rather interesting. I couldn’t wait to witness it.

“Haaah…”

Thinking this, I finally relaxed slightly and asked the bastard in front of me.

“So, what are we going to do now?”

“Um…”

Adler then tilted his head for a moment before showing a grin and interlocking his fingers with mine.

“… I’m going to seduce a doctor while travelling the world.”

“Bullsh…”

A curse slipped out of my mouth, but I couldn’t finish it.

“In the end, I’ll even get a confession from the cute doctor.”

Perhaps it was because of the ring that was still on my finger, shining, exactly like the one he had on his hand.

“… Ha.”

Or maybe it was because of my eyes, now half-golden, shining through the glass next to me.

“I must be crazy, really…”

Maybe it was both.

“Ah, by the way, the change in Miss Watson’s eyes isn’t due to love. It’s just because my mana is mixed inside you at the moment due to all my genes you are carrying, so it’s not permanent…”
