Chapter 492: 492: The Threat of the Dou Family
Chapter 492: Chapter 492: The Threat of the Dou Family
Director Dou knew the truth behind the others’ disruption and decided to personally escort the bunch of bastards back to Chaoyang.
As for his son’s opening ceremony, so be it if he missed it, he was protecting his son after all.
If he didn’t follow them back, without him being there, there might indeed be people making trouble.
Seeing someone approach to ask questions, Director Dou’s face darkened as he pulled out his badge, “Police conducting an investigation!”
A middle-aged man spoke in a deep voice, “I heard, but this is a case in the city district. Is it any of Chaoyang police’s business?”
Old Dou smiled coldly and asked menacingly, “Are you a police officer?”
“No,” the man shook his head, “just an ordinary citizen.”
“Then it’s none of your damn business!” Old Dou’s face darkened again, “Cuff him!”
“What did I do!” The middle-aged man cried out, struggling incessantly and shouting loudly, “The police are beating people! The police are beating people!”
“Obstructing law enforcement,” Old Dou casually slapped a label on it.
He was no idiot; he knew exactly what it meant for this man to step up at this moment.
Then, with an unfriendly gaze, he looked at another middle-aged man, “What’s your problem?”
The man subconsciously shook his head in denial, “Nothing, I was just… curious!”
Old Dou’s face turned black, and he spat out a single word, “Scram!”
After much difficulty getting everyone on the bus and about to drive off, a police car came roaring in with its siren blaring, blocking the minibus. Then two police officers got out.
“Get off,” one of the officers said as he made a phone call and then waved at the minibus, “What are you doing?”
“None of your damn business what I’m doing,” a voice came from the door of the bus, and then a middle-aged fat man jumped down and glared fiercely at him, “I’m making an arrest here, got a problem with that, Captain Zhang?”
“Eh, is that Old Dou?” Captain Zhang was surprised and then burst into fury, “Dammit, this is my territory, can’t you speak properly?”
Director Dou’s eyes narrowed as he pointed towards the minibus and asked ominously, “You’re here for the punks on the bus, am I right?”
Who the hell do you think you are calling ‘old man’? Captain Zhang was an associate captain of the district criminal police team and held the same rank as the deputy station chief. But he was young and had no respect for this old geezer—after all, the highest position he’d ever reach in life was a station director.
His eyes narrowed, he was about to speak when it suddenly hit him—this was the Dou of Chaoyang.
After all, it had been over a decade since the Dou family had kept a low profile, and Director Dou had been placated, was muddle-headed and lacked cunning, rarely losing his temper. So sometimes people would forget the Dou family’s formidable reputation.
Remembering this, Captain Zhang forcibly calmed his anger and greeted him with a forced smile, “Old Dou, if you had any issues, you could’ve just told me. You ran over here to make an arrest without a word.”
Old Dou wanted to say something but feared misspeaking, and when he caught sight of Feng Jun, he said, “Da Pang, come over… you tell him.”
Feng Jun approached and questioned rigorously, “The people we caught in the bus, do you know them?”
Captain Zhang indeed knew these small-time crooks; otherwise, he wouldn’t have been so aggressive on arrival.
However, at this point, he still did not realize why Old Dou was furious, so his response was vague, “This is my jurisdiction.”
An odd smile appeared on Feng Jun’s face, “They came to my Uncle Dou’s shop to extort money, and you were aware of this?”
“Shit,” Captain Zhang swore, jumping at the revelation. He had rushed over without finding out who the shop owner was.
Though he knew on what these good-for-nothings survived.
These damned fools, they really were becoming more and more unruly, courting death without first checking their target.
He stated earnestly, “I really had no idea, this is the store of Old Dou… Director Dou’s son?”
Director Dou calmly replied, “The store is run by my son.”
Dou Jiahui stepped forward, squinting as he questioned, “If it weren’t my shop, what did you plan on doing?”
He was still young, full of a young man’s sense of justice—so these scoundrels were untouchable because they had your backing?
Internally exasperated, Captain Zhang thought, just mind your own business, why so many questions?
He decided not to engage with the justice-driven youth and instead looked towards Old Dou, speaking in a low voice, “Director Dou… one of them inside is my comrade’s brother. Can you give a brother some face?”
This time, Director Dou didn’t need to consult Feng Jun, he raised his chin, “Point him out to me on the bus.”
Captain Zhang pointed out the man on the bus, the same one who was the ringleader, “Heh, just this little punk…”
Director Dou didn’t say another word, picked up a large wrench from the side and, with a violent wrench, smashed it against the man’s shin, a cracking sound indicating the breakage of the man’s leg.
“Aaaah~” The man screamed sharply, writhing in pain on the floor.
Captain Zhang’s face darkened instantly, “Old Dou, what the hell are you…”
Old Dou raised his hand with another wrench, swinging it at him, “Give you face… What the fuck are you even worth?”
Yunyuan City is a remote city where people don’t conduct themselves like in the big cities; they seldom have any ulterior motives.
Captain Zhang was agile, quickly ducking under the vehicle and running around the minibus.
Director Dou chased after him, his behind swinging, while shouting loudly, “Damn it… You think the Dou Family is to be trifled with when we’re silent? You bully my son and then expect me to give you face? If you’ve got the guts, stand still!”
“Dad,” Dou Jiahui called out, “take a break, let me handle this… with Da Pang.”
Director Dou was genuinely exhausted; given his age and the fact that he had become accustomed to comfort, he was quickly winded after a short run.
Captain Zhang didn’t dare to run off either. He intended to head for the police car but the way was blocked by many people, so he could only keep running around the minibus.
Seeing that Old Dou had stopped chasing him, he also stopped to catch his breath, “Old Dou, I was just asking for a favor, did you need to be like this…”
“Enough, no more talk,” Dou Jiahui walked over and asked in a deep voice, “Do you know how much I invested in this shop?”
The corners of Captain Zhang’s mouth twitched. He knew the shop wasn’t cheap, “You could have let me know about your investment in the shop.”
Dou Jiahui narrowed his eyes, “How the fuck would I know that you were colluding with them?”
Upon hearing this, the irritation surged within Captain Zhang. He could accept the old man being a cop but some brat bearing his teeth at him? “I’m telling you, speak properly.”
“Aren’t I speaking fucking properly?” Dou Jiahui said with a grimace and a fierce frown, “Over a million… I invested over a million, and some people want me to lose it all. If it were you, could you stand it?”
Captain Zhang calmed down, he couldn’t help but be calm. There were many who failed in their investments here; he was used to it. Normally, he would think—if you want to make money, you must consider the possibility of losing it.
But if the Dou Family’s investment in Chaoyang was intentionally sabotaged, the consequences would be quite severe.
Even so, he still doubted inside: Just change the location, at most you’d lose the rent and renovation costs, how could you possibly lose a whole million? Who could rob you of your goods?
Indeed, people are used to finding faults in others. He didn’t consider that if not for this street location, the annual loss in revenue for the Dou Family could possibly exceed a million.
In the past, he had indifferent to the bullying of other shops, using the same logic—not selling lighting here wouldn’t kill anyone, high income places naturally come with high risks.
However, facing the other’s righteous indignation, he just stood there with a wooden face, listening.
Then, Dou Jiahui pointed at him, “Do you know? Today, someone sent a Fortune Tree to me, asking for fifty thousand… and they even took the money!”
Damn~ Captain Zhang felt like killing someone. It was bad enough accidentally offending the Dou Family, they were cops, so that wasn’t a big deal, but fifty thousand for a Fortune Tree… who gave you the balls?
He couldn’t maintain his poker face any longer, “I just found out about this. How do you want me to cooperate?”
“Simple,” Dou Jiahui grinned, showing his teeth, “you are definitely profiting from shielding their wrongdoings.”
Captain Zhang shook his head decisively, denying it, “I have repeatedly advised them to mend their ways and return to righteousness.”
“Don’t give me that bullshit,” Dou Jiahui didn’t believe a word, knowing that these thugs wreaking havoc wasn’t just about taking a couple thousand from each shop for protection money. Once they oppress and dominate the market, there are countless ways to make money.
He looked around, seeing no one, and spoke quickly and directly, “They extorted fifty thousand from me, and I will definitely report them for extortion… Let’s start with robbery, and if you give me half a million, I won’t drag you into it.”
Although Captain Zhang was wary of the Dou Family, he couldn’t help but laugh upon hearing this, “You’ve got quite the appetite.”
“My appetite isn’t big,” said Dou Jiahui, emotionless, “With your collusion, how many people have been ruined? My two five hundred thousands are but the tip of the iceberg. If the law can’t handle you… I will.”
Captain Zhang was stunned for a moment, then pulled out a cigarette and lit it, not offering one to the other party—a sign of hostility.
He spoke indifferently, “You can accuse others of extortion, do you think… I can’t accuse you?”
“I haven’t considered that, just go ahead and sue,” Dou Jiahui said nonchalantly, “If you can sue me, more power to you!”
After a pause, he smiled faintly, “Extortion isn’t a capital offense, I just want to ask you one thing… Are you ready for your whole family to die?”
Are you ready for your whole family to die? Captain Zhang turned stark white upon hearing these words.
How long had it been since he heard such a brazen threat?
And how long had it been since the Dou Family made such a declaration?
The Dou Family has a tradition of playing for keeps, and they always make it clear they are willing to go all out before any subsequent tragedy occurs.
Even the two most low-profile murderers put out the word that “this matter isn’t over,” before disappearing. Not long after their disappearance, the bloodbath occurred.
It’s normal to hear phrases like “I’ll kill your whole family” during a street argument, it’s just a quarrel, after all.
But when someone from the Dou Family utters these words, it’s absolutely not to be taken as mere anger—they can’t afford to not follow through with the threat.
If Captain Zhang heard someone else say this, he would most likely be furious—threatening a state judicial official, do you really want to taste the iron fist of the authorities?
But hearing it from Dou Jiahui in this hot weather, all he could feel was a bone-chilling cold.
What do you think?
