Chapter 36: Xi Na's partner
The moment Wei Long nodded, confirming Xi Na as his partner—
Glock'Nine's entire body shuddered.
His feathers fluffed up violently.
His ugly lizard feet scraped the ground.
His beak twisted in horror.
Then—
"Ugh!"
His entire face scrunched up in disgust.
Like he had just eaten the most rotten, fermented, putrid, foul-smelling, maggot-infested egg in existence.
"She's so ugly!" he screeched.
Xi Na twitched.
Wei Long's brow arched.
Red'Ribbon snorted lazily.
But Glock'Nine wasn't done.
"How could you—? How could you possibly—? HOW COULD YOU POSSIBLY PICK HER?!"
Wei Long blinked.
"Yes… She'll be your partner," he stated firmly.
Glock'Nine froze.
His beady rooster eyes widened.
Then—
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
His agonized scream echoed through the forest.
The Henragens all screeched in response.
The ground shook.
Leaves fell from the trees.
A nearby spirit beast fled in terror.
Even the defeated Homo Deva Squad cultivators twitched in pain.
But Glock'Nine did not care.
He stomped his feet.
He flapped his wings violently.
His rage boiled over.
"I CAN'T ACCEPT THIS!" And then he would shout again, "SHE'S TOO UGLY!"
He pointed a feathered wing at Xi Na.
"Her hair isn't even FEATHERY!"
Xi Na blinked.
Wei Long exhaled slowly.
"Her skin isn't even SCALY!"
Xi Na twitched.
Wei Long rubbed his temples.
"Her legs aren't even STRONG like a proper HEN!"
Xi Na gritted her teeth.
Wei Long sighed.
But Glock'Nine kept going.
"She doesn't even have a BEAK!"
Wei Long groaned.
"She doesn't even have TALONS!"
Wei Long rolled his eyes.
"She doesn't even have WINGS!"
Wei Long rubbed his snout.
But Glock'Nine was losing his mind.
He paced aggressively.
"Unacceptable."
"UNACCEPTABLE!"
"I CAN'T ACCEPT IT!"
Then—
He stopped.
Turned sharply.
His beady eyes locked onto Wei Long.
And then—
"IF I'M GOING TO HER COMPANION, I'LL JUST CHALLENGE YOU TO THE DEATH!"
Wei Long blinked.
Xi Na stared.
The Henragens gasped.
Even the Homo Deva Squad leader, half-dead, twitched in shock.
But Red'Ribbon?
He simply sighed.
"Here we go again," he muttered.
Glock'Nine snapped his head at him.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN 'HERE WE GO AGAIN'?!"
Red'Ribbon yawned.
"You're always challenging someone to the death."
"BECAUSE THEY'RE ALWAYS WRONG!"
Red'Ribbon rolled his eyes.
"You tried to kill our father because he didn't let you marry your fourth wife."
Glock'Nine huffed.
"HE WAS BLOCKING TRUE LOVE!"
"You fought our mother because she said your crowing was ugly."
Glock'Nine puffed up.
"MY CROWING IS A MASTERPIECE!"
"You tried to fight the sky once."
Glock'Nine froze.
"...That was different."
Red'Ribbon sighed.
"Sure, sure."
Wei Long was speechless, "you know each other?"
Red'Ribbon would nod, "when we were still a chick…"
Wei Long would be dumbfounded. They are killing each other earlier, turns out they know each other? Isn't this…
However, Glock'Nine would not be stopped.
His determination burned.
"THIS IS A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH!"
His feathers quivered.
His lizard feet scraped the dirt.
His beak clicked violently.
"I WILL NOT LET MAKE A TERRIBLE CHOICE FOR ME, WEI LONG!"
"I WILL SAVE MYSELF FROM THIS UGLY WOMAN!"
Wei Long groaned.
Suddenly, Glock'Nine's eyes locked onto Xi Na.
"HEY! YOU!"
Xi Na raised an eyebrow.
"WHY ARE YOU EVEN QUALIFIED TO BE MY TAMER?!"
Wei Long sighed.
Glock'Nine flapped his wings aggressively.
"WHAT DO YOU HAVE THAT MAKES YOU WORTHY?!"
Xi Na narrowed her eyes.
Then—
She stepped forward.
Her presence shifted.
Her aura flared.
And she spoke.
"I am Xi Na."
Her voice rang like steel.
Her eyes gleamed like sharpened blades.
"I was born in the Blood Boar Sect, raised in the way of battle."
The wind howled.
The Henragens listened.
"I have killed before I could speak."
"I have bled before I could walk."
"I have survived battles that even the strongest men have perished in."
Her hand clenched around her saber.
"I have slain beasts, warriors, monsters, and demons alike."
Her gaze turned fierce.
"I have faced the horrors of this world and came out standing."
The air felt heavy.
Her voice burned with conviction.
"I am not the strongest."
"I am not the fastest."
"I am not the most powerful."
"But I have never given up."
"I have never fallen."
"I have never surrendered."
Her saber gleamed in the light.
"I am Xi Na. A warrior. A fighter. A survivor."
"And I do not need to prove myself to a chicken."
Silence.
Absolute silence.
The Henragens blinked.
Red'Ribbon smirked slightly.
Wei Long exhaled.
And Glock'Nine?
He was frozen.
Mouth open.
Eyes wide.
His lizard feet twitching.
Then—
"...Ugh."
He scowled.
"Still ugly."
Wei Long clawpalmed.
With Glock'Nine still sulking, Wei Long finally spoke.
His eyes narrowed.
His tail swayed.
And then—
"Glock'Nine."
The rooster looked at him.
Wei Long grinned.
"Why do you think I chose her?"
Although Wei Long was still disturbed by Glock'Nine's beauty standards, he kept his cool.
He inhaled deeply and exhaled slowly.
Then, he spoke.
"Listen, Glock'Nine."
His tail swayed.
His nuclear eyes gleamed.
"I chose Xi Na because of her background as a demonic path cultivator."
Glock'Nine huffed.
"Hmph! What does that even mean?!"
Wei Long grinned.
"It means," he said, "if you think your hens are sexy, you better be ready."
"Once we reach the demonic path sect, you'll see a whole new world!"
Glock'Nine's eyes narrowed.
Red'Ribbon yawned.
Wei Long continued.
"You think your hens are the best? Unique? Beautiful? Oh, Glock'Nine…"
He leaned closer.
"The demonic path has creatures—"
"Creatures with unique features far beyond your imagination!"
"Creatures so... breathtaking, they make your hens look normal!"
"Creatures that will redefine your understanding of beauty!"
Glock'Nine's feathers quivered.
His beak opened slightly.
Then—
Wei Long felt it.
A burning sensation.
A piercing aura.
He froze.
Slowly, his nuclear reptilian eyes shifted.
And—
The Henragens were glaring at him.
Their ugly, grotesque lizard feet scraped the ground.
Their misshapen wings twitched aggressively.
Their beady eyes burned with fury.
They were staring at Wei Long.
They were angry.
They were offended.
They were enraged.
Wei Long blinked.
A single drop of sweat rolled down his scaly forehead.
Did…
Did these ugly hens actually have intelligence?!
Did they understand his words?!
Wei Long internally screamed.
'REALLY?!!'
For the first time in his new life, he genuinely gave up.
However, immediately, a dark thought suddenly crossed his mind.
A beastly instinct.
A primordial hunger.
'What if I eat them?'
He glanced at the Henragens.
Their ugly, mutated bodies.
Their grotesque, monstrous features.
Their hideous, lizard-like talons.
If he devoured them—
What kind of abilities would he gain?
Would he get ugly lizard feet?
Would he get warped feathers?
Would he become some kind of twisted mutant dinosaur-rooster hybrid?!
Wei Long shuddered.
He quickly shook his head.
"Nope. Nope. Nope. I refuse."
He didn't even want to look at them.
With a quick decision, Wei Long turned to Xi Na.
His expression was firm.
His voice was cold.
"Xi Na."
She looked at him.
"It's your job to get on his good side now."
Xi Na froze.
"Huh?!"
Wei Long nodded.
"You handle this."
Xi Na gritted her teeth.
"Uh?!"
But Wei Long had already turned away.
He ignored her.
This was now her problem.
Xi Na was speechless, and then she took a deep breath.
She looked at Glock'Nine's skeptical face.
She looked at Red'Ribbon's lazy eyes.
Then, she steeled herself.
'Fine. This is my chance to tame a rare beast, this is it!'
She smiled confidently.
And then—
She spoke.
"Glock'Nine."
Her voice was smooth.
Her tone was enchanting.
"You think your hens are beautiful, don't you?"
Glock'Nine puffed up.
"Of course!"
Xi Na nodded.
"And what if I told you…"
"There are creatures out there even MORE beautiful?"
Glock'Nine froze.
His head tilted.
"More… beautiful?"
Xi Na grinned.
"Yes."
And then—
She described.
She spoke of beasts with eight eyes and three tails.
She described monstrous hens with jagged beaks and venomous feathers.
She painted pictures of mutant beasts with scales like molten lava.
She whispered about hens with twisted horns and tails like whips.
She detailed their grotesque features—
But made them sound magnificent.
She wove a tale of beauty in the monstrous.
She painted a world where the grotesque was divine.
At first—
Glock'Nine was skeptical.
At first—
He frowned.
At first—
He grumbled.
But then—
His beady eyes began to widen.
His ugly rooster mouth began to open.
His feathers trembled with excitement.
And then—
His eyes sparkled.
Like a child hearing about candy for the first time.
Like a warrior hearing about a legendary treasure.
Like a rooster discovering a paradise of hens.
Glock'Nine was hooked.
"T-There's more?"
Xi Na nodded.
"Many more."
"And they're even better?"
Xi Na smirked.
"Far better."
Glock'Nine shuddered.
His beak quivered.
And then—
He nodded.
"Alright, alright."
His voice shook.
"I hope you're telling the truth."
What do you think?
