Chapter 41: Weak beasts
Wei Long and Red'Ribbon walked in silence, the thick mist curling around them like ghostly tendrils. The damp air smelled of earth, blood, and distant prey.
Yet—
Something was off.
Red'Ribbon, usually quick to retort, hadn't spoken for a long while.
Wei Long side-eyed him, noticing the thoughtful, almost troubled look on his face.
It was obvious what was bothering him.
Finally—
After what felt like ages, Red'Ribbon let out a deep sigh and muttered,
"Hey… He really did gotten stronger, didn't he?"
Wei Long didn't respond, allowing him to continue.
Red'Ribbon's claws clicked against the rocks as he frowned.
"That loud rooster… Glock'Nine… He was weak before, but now… He's a lot stronger. One of the opponents earlier could give me a hard time but his tamer only played with them and I am sure it's thanks to his new strength earlier…"
Wei Long simply nodded.
Red'Ribbon turned his sharp golden eyes toward him.
"Did you do something?"
Wei Long gave a casual shrug.
"Yeah. I made him stronger."
Silence.
Red'Ribbon's jaw dropped slightly.
"Just like that?" he asked, dumbfounded. "You just made him stronger?"
Wei Long smirked.
"Yep."
Red'Ribbon's tail twitched, his expression caught between shock and disbelief.
For a moment, he was hesitant, as if debating whether to ask his next question. But eventually, he took a deep breath and forced it out.
"Then… Does that mean… If the tamer of your choosing tamed me too…"
His voice lowered, his words slow and careful.
"Would I get stronger too?"
Wei Long turned his head slightly, his emerald eyes gleaming with amusement.
"I have no idea… Maybe."
Red'Ribbon stared at him, searching for any hint of deception—but Wei Long's face remained unreadable.
After a long moment, Red'Ribbon exhaled, his tense cock shoulders relaxing slightly.
"Well, whatever. At least we got rid of that annoying rooster."
Wei Long smirked again, but this time, he kept a thought to himself.
Well… Zou Fang is more or less like him.
Shaking his head slightly, he chuckled under his breath.
…
Their journey toward Zou Fang's location was slow.
Because—
There was one oddity.
Every few minutes—
Wei Long would suddenly pounce on a random beast, tearing into its flesh without hesitation.
He wasn't hunting for sport.
He wasn't hunting for survival.
He was hunting purely for—
Consumption.
Over and over, it happened.
A giant horned lizard that barely had time to shriek before being devoured whole.
A swift shadow panther, thinking itself safe in the trees, only to be ripped down and swallowed.
A five-headed serpent, its bodies coiling and thrashing, but all of them met the same fate—Wei Long's stomach.
Red'Ribbon finally couldn't hold it in anymore.
"Oi," he grumbled. "What's with you? You keep eating. Does your stomach never get full?"
Wei Long barely spared him a glance before tearing off another chunk of meat.
"I'm just making myself full," he said simply.
Red'Ribbon frowned.
"But… it's never-ending. Even the Mole Emperor, who was known as the most gluttonous beast in this entire area, wouldn't be able to hold a candle to you."
Wei Long didn't reply.
Instead, he shut his mouth, his aura suddenly vanishing.
Red'Ribbon immediately felt his scales tighten.
Wei Long had just gone into Camouflage.
Silence.
Then—
A flicker of movement.
A new target.
Red'Ribbon knew so he kept himself hidden like Wei Long always instructed him to.
Not far away, Wei Long was walking but his breathing slowed.
His muscles tensed.
His body melted into the shadows, blending seamlessly with the dense foliage.
The target was just ahead—
A massive, armored beast with six thick legs and a shell as tough as black steel.
It was a Dread Tortoise, a creature that was known for its unbreakable defense.
No predator dared to hunt it—
Because nothing could break through its shell.
But Wei Long—
He wasn't just any predator.
He was evolution itself.
He inched forward, his body melding into the terrain.
His presence was erased.
His scent vanished.
The Dread Tortoise had no idea that death was already upon it.
It continued munching on some rare spiritual moss, its thick shell gleaming under the faint moonlight.
Wei Long's eyes flickered coldly.
Then—
He struck.
BOOM!
His tail whipped forward like a battering ram, slamming into the side of the tortoise's shell with earth-shattering force.
A deep CRACK echoed through the air.
The Dread Tortoise jerked, confused.
Then—
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Wei Long kept attacking, his claws digging into the small, unarmored gaps near the tortoise's neck and limbs.
The tortoise screeched, its thick, muscular legs thrashing violently.
It tried to retreat into its shell—
But it was too late.
Wei Long sank his fangs into its exposed flesh—
And ripped.
Blood gushed.
The Dread Tortoise's body convulsed violently.
It tried to resist.
Tried to survive.
Tried to fight back.
But against Wei Long—
It was futile.
He devoured it.
Piece by piece.
Until there was nothing left but shattered bones and broken shell fragments.
Red'Ribbon stared, utterly speechless.
He had seen gluttonous creatures before.
But Wei Long…
This wasn't normal hunger.
This wasn't just eating for power.
This was something beyond that.
Something… unnatural.
After what felt like an eternity, Wei Long licked his lips, his emerald eyes flashing with satisfaction.
Then, he sighed deeply and muttered,
"That's it… My stomach is full."
Just when Red'Ribbon thought that Wei Long was finally done, the sight before him made his scales crawl.
Wei Long—without hesitation—leaped back into the hunt.
Again.
And again.
And again.
Red'Ribbon couldn't understand it.
Wei Long had just declared himself full, yet his hunger seemed bottomless. His movements were quick and efficient, but what shocked Red'Ribbon wasn't the endless appetite—it was the sheer brutality of it all.
On the side, Wei Long's emerald eyes gleamed in the dark, his form moving like a shadowy nightmare through the underbrush.
His tail lashed out, snapping the neck of a lurking Crimson Venom Wolf before it could even react. Its glowing fangs never even had a chance to sink into his flesh.
CRACK!
With one smooth motion, he sank his razor-sharp fangs into the creature's throat, ripping out its pulsing jugular as its lifeblood stained the ground.
But before the corpse could even hit the dirt, Wei Long was already on his next victim.
A Thunder Serpent, its body coiled high in the treetops, reared back, hissing with an aura of electric death.
Wei Long didn't hesitate.
He jumped, his claws slashing through the air with a sickening SHING!—and before the snake could strike with its deadly fangs, Wei Long had already ripped through its skull, dragging it down into the earth with a thundering slam.
Red'Ribbon gulped.
This isn't just hunger… This is slaughter.
But as Wei Long tore through beast after beast, his expression darkened.
The power wasn't enough.
None of them were strong enough.
As he sat upon the corpse of a Shadow Panther, his teeth still dripping with blood, he muttered to himself.
"Pathetic." Wei Long growled, shaking his head.
Red'Ribbon stiffened.
Wei Long clenched his jaw.
"These attacks… They're all weak."
Something was wrong.
Inside his head, his Bio-Engineering System remained silent.
The usual surge of genetic information that followed his feast was missing.
He couldn't absorb them.
Probably because they were too weak.
His body refused to adapt to creatures that weren't even a challenge to him.
He needed something stronger.
Something worthy of consumption.
His mind drifted to the especially rare beasts—creatures like the Dragoroosters, whose blood boiled with ancient power.
But even that wasn't enough.
He wanted more.
Turning to Red'Ribbon, he asked, "Hey… You know this place, right?"
Red'Ribbon blinked. "…Yeah?"
Wei Long's eyes sharpened.
"Are there beasts stronger—or at least as strong as you—in this area?"
A cold shiver ran down Red'Ribbon's spine.
For a moment, he hesitated.
He didn't want to answer.
But looking at Wei Long—seeing the prehistoric predatory gleam in his eyes—he knew there was no point in resisting.
He sighed deeply and began listing them.
A shadow-born entity called the Obsidian Nightstalker that can move between dimensions at will.
No known creature has ever caught it, only survived its wrath.
If someone fights it head-on, they either die instantly or vanish forever.
Next was a living fortress called the Terror Spine Goliath, its entire body covered in unknowable layers of bone armor.
Even spirit beasts avoid its domain.
Can shake the entire region with a single movement.
Not to forget, since they are in the Autumn Dragon Sect, a dragon-like beast called the Crimson Sky Wyrm was also here that controls the power of blood fire, a flame that feeds on the souls of the living.
Can melt even the hardest metals with a breath.
Fourth was a beast that had a howl and shattered mountains.
Killed thousands in a single rampage.
Only survived by those who are deaf.
Lastly, a beast of pure strength.
Unlike others that rely on tricks or elemental power, the Empower Lion is a monster of sheer brute force.
It also had a roar that alone can send shockwaves that collapse valleys.
Even elite beasts like hollow howl beast, crimson sky wyrm, terror spine Goliath and obsidian night stalker can't last a second against its raw, devastating power.
There is only one, and no one dares challenge it.
Red'Ribbon's voice trembled slightly. "These… are the strongest in the area."
Wei Long stood still listening intently.
His emerald gaze was locked on a single name.
He whispered it to himself, testing the weight of it on his tongue.
"…Empower Lion?"
His lips curled into a predatory grin.
"…Sounds strong."
What do you think?
