Bio-engineered Dinosaur in the immortal world

Chapter 43: Busy Lion King

Wei Long kept his body low, his camouflage ability blending him seamlessly with the surrounding jungle.

His piercing eyes tracked the Empower Lion's every movement as it walked leisurely through the tall golden grass.

This was a creature of absolute power, a king among beasts, and Wei Long had no intention of making any foolish moves.

He needed to wait for the right opportunity to use his ability.

The Empower Lion, unaware of the hidden predator stalking it, strode forward confidently, occasionally pausing to sniff the air.

A deep rumbling purr left its throat as it entered a small clearing where a group of lion cubs immediately ran up to it, their little tails flicking excitedly.

The cubs mewed and pounced on the large male, who merely let out a deep chuckle-like sound as he flopped onto his side, allowing the cubs to climb onto his muscular frame.

"You little troublemakers," the Empower Lion rumbled, swiping a massive paw playfully at a cub that had latched onto his mane. "Did your mothers send you to wear me down? Hm? Is that their strategy?"

The cub squeaked as it tumbled off his back and onto the soft grass.

Another cub took the opportunity to gnaw on the lion's ear, and he sighed exaggeratedly.

"Oh no, the great and mighty ruler of the plains, defeated by his own offspring. How will I ever recover?"

The cubs roared—or at least, they attempted to, their small voices coming out as tiny squeaks. Wei Long, still hidden, had to suppress a scoff.

"This damn lion is taking his sweet time," he muttered under his breath.

He had already begun activating his toxic scales several times, only for the lion to keep moving, playing, or rolling onto his back.

The energy it took to keep his poison restrained without releasing it prematurely was starting to irritate him.

If he uses his toxic scales, it might kill the cubs first, making the lion become aware of his presence.

One of the cubs pawed at the lion's nose.

The mighty beast wrinkled its snout and sneezed, sending the little one tumbling backward.

The others burst into tiny yips of laughter, rolling over each other in amusement.

The Empower Lion stretched lazily. "I am trying to get some rest here, you know. Shouldn't you all be harassing your mothers instead?"

One of the cubs, a slightly larger one with a golden streak down its back, puffed out its tiny chest. "Mama says you're lazy!"

The Empower Lion opened one eye and let out an exaggerated gasp. "Lazy? Me? Do you have any idea how much work it takes to look this magnificent?" He shook his mane dramatically.

The cubs erupted into more giggles as they swatted at his fur.

Wei Long felt his eye twitch.

"By the ancestors, this lion…"

His toxic scales pulsed lightly, ready to release at any moment, but the constant movement of the cubs disrupted his plan every time.

Every time he thought he found an opening, another cub pounced, or the lion turned over, or—

"Fine, fine," the lion finally relented, lifting his massive form. "I will go take a nap somewhere else before you cubs turn me into a permanent jungle gym."

The Empower Lion rose to his feet and, with slow, deliberate steps, walked away from the playful cubs.

They whined in protest but didn't follow, likely knowing better than to test his patience further.

Wei Long's eyes gleamed.

Finally, an opportunity.

His toxic scales began to pulse again, the deadly venom ready to seep into the air.

If he did this right, the lion wouldn't even realize it was being poisoned until it was too late.

He silently crept after his target, watching as the lion lay down beneath a massive tree, its head resting on its front paws.

Wei Long moved into position, inhaled deeply, and was just about to unleash his toxic mist—

And then he froze.

His instincts screamed at him to stop.

Something wasn't right.

"ROAAAR!"

A flurry of movement exploded from the tall grass.

A group of lionesses pounced onto the Empower Lion, their sleek bodies pressing against its massive frame.

They didn't attack—they played, rubbing their heads against him, flicking their tails with coquettish glee.

The male lion huffed, baring his fangs in what almost looked like a grin. His deep, gravelly voice rumbled through the air.

"Ladies, ladies! One at a time! A king has his duties, you know."

Wei Long, hidden within the brush, blinked. He had prepared himself for battle, not… whatever this was.

"Pffft... Are you serious?" he muttered under his breath.

His prehistoric scaly lizard tail twitched with irritation.

He had spent all this time waiting for the lion to rest, and now this?

He was being forced to witness a royal love fest?

The lionesses purred and swayed their hips as they circled their king.

One of them playfully nipped at his ear, and another rubbed her face against his mane, breathing in his scent.

"My king, you've been too tense lately. Let us ease your burdens."

"Indeed! A ruler as mighty as you deserves relaxation."

"Hahaha!" The Empower Lion let out a hearty laugh, his sharp teeth gleaming in the dim light. "You all know how to spoil me, don't you? Fine, fine. Let's make this a royal affair."

Wei Long rolled his eyes so hard he was surprised they didn't fall out of his skull.

He had faced countless absurd situations in his life, but this?

This was a different kind of ridiculous.

He was crouching in the underbrush, fully prepared to unleash death upon this beast, only to witness a lion romance drama unfolding before him.

And it didn't stop there.

The lionesses began grooming the Empower Lion, their tongues running through his mane as they cooed praises.

"Your fur is as divine as the sun's radiance."

"Your scent alone sends shivers through my bones."

"No beast in this world is as magnificent as you, my king."

The Empower Lion stretched luxuriously, yawning wide, showing off his fearsome fangs before rumbling in satisfaction.

"Ahhh, truly, a king's life is exhausting. Endless battles, keeping the pride strong, being admired day and night… It's tiring to be this great."

Wei Long's eyes twitched.

He had witnessed some grand boasts before, but this lion took arrogance to celestial levels.

"Unbelievable. This guy actually believes he's the protagonist of the world," Wei Long muttered, suppressing the urge to burst out laughing.

One of the lionesses let out a playful growl, rolling onto her back and stretching her paws. "My king, let us serve you properly tonight."

Another lioness purred, her voice dripping with admiration. "Allow us to please you, our great ruler."

The Empower Lion grinned like he had just ascended to the heavens. "Ahh, my dear queens, how could I ever refuse? Very well, let us celebrate my glory!"

Wei Long nearly gagged. "I take it back. I've never seen anyone boast like this. He's worse than Glock'Nine."

For the next several minutes—minutes that felt like agonizing hours—Wei Long had to endure the most infuriating and utterly ridiculous spectacle of his life.

The lionesses practically worshipped their king, doting on him as though he were some celestial emperor descended from the heavens.

Wei Long, still crouched and hidden, exhaled sharply. His patience was reaching its limit. "Enough of this nonsense. I have a lion to poison."

He readied himself, shifting slightly, preparing to activate his toxic scales when, at long last, the lionesses finally relented.

The Empower Lion stretched once more, yawning as he sauntered away from his doting harem.

"Ah, my dear queens, you truly know how to treat your king. But even a king needs rest." He settled into a shaded clearing, away from his pride.

He exhaled contentedly, rolling onto his side.

Wei Long smirked. "Finally. Took you long enough, your majesty."

He prepared to activate his toxic scales, but just as he was about to unleash them, the Empower Lion let out one final dramatic sigh.

"Ah, it's so exhausting being me…"

Wei Long froze.

His patience had been tested, his plans delayed, but this?

This was too much.

He was done.

He clenched his jaw, suppressing the overwhelming urge to burst out of his hiding spot and smack the lion in the face. But he held back, inhaling deeply.

No, he had waited too long for this moment.

He couldn't let annoyance ruin his perfect ambush.

He steadied himself, eyes locked onto his target.

The time had come.
