Chapter 64: Leaving
Suddenly, the dinosaur's jaw stretched open wide the moment Elder Fu Shen stepped closer.
Its massive fangs gleamed under the dim light, ready to snap down in an instant. But Fu Shen was prepared.
With a snort of contempt, he struck out, his palm landing with earth-shattering force against the beast's skull.
The impact created a shockwave that sent a gust of wind spiraling outward, bending the trees and sending debris flying.
The bio-engineered dinosaur's head slammed into the ground, carving a deep trench into the soil, yet its eyes still burned with unrelenting fury.
"Pathetic," Fu Shen muttered, standing tall atop its skull. "Attempting an ambush in such a crude manner? You think that's enough to take down this elder?"
The ground dragon's nostrils flared, hot air blasting through them as its body twitched beneath him.
Fu Shen, with an expression of cold curiosity, decided to experiment.
He channeled pure Qi into his palm and pressed it against the beast's rough hide. The ground dragon let out a guttural, snarling growl, but it remained immobilized.
Fu Shen tilted his head. "You're different, aren't you? No ordinary beast. I wonder... how much punishment can you take?"
He began testing its limits.
First, he increased the pressure of his Qi-infused palm.
The beast's scales, initially resistant, began to crack slightly under the strain.
Then, Fu Shen conjured his blade and slashed its back, watching as the wound sealed up almost immediately. "Regeneration too, huh?" he mused.
He then sent wave after wave of spiritual force directly into the beast's core, observing how quickly it absorbed energy.
The realization struck him—this creature wasn't just healing from his attacks.
It was really growing stronger!
Fu Shen's brow furrowed.
If this thing kept adapting, kept evolving... it could become something truly monstrous.
He didn't have the proper tools to contain it right now, and capturing a living specimen in such an unstable state was a risk he wasn't willing to take.
Clicking his tongue, he stepped away from the beast's battered form.
His eyes shifted toward the lifeless bodies of his disciples, their corpses littering the battlefield, some barely recognizable.
He exhaled, forcing away any lingering sentiment.
"Farewell, my disciples," he murmured, glancing over them one last time. "Your deaths will not be in vain. You have delivered a great gift to our sect."
He turned back toward the beast, which was still twitching but unable to move. "I will return, and when I do, you will belong to the Autumn Dragon Sect."
With that, he took off, soaring into the sky, his robes billowing in the wind as he vanished into the horizon.
For a moment, there was silence.
Then, the bio-engineered lizard roared in pure, seething fury.
The sky trembled as its bellow echoed through the vast wilderness.
The remaining beasts in the area shrieked in fear, scattering in all directions. But the rampage was only beginning.
Fueled by an unquenchable rage, it tore through everything in its path.
It lunged forward, slamming its massive tail into a row of trees, uprooting them like they were mere twigs.
It snapped its jaws at anything that moved, crushing boulders into dust. It trampled over the remains of the disciples, its claws gouging deep trenches in the earth.
Every stomp sent shockwaves across the land, causing the very ground to tremble beneath its wrath.
The more it rampaged, the angrier it became.
It was like a machine of destruction, a beast engineered solely to devastate anything in its way.
Even harmless patches of grass were not spared—it scorched the land with its energy, leaving behind nothing but charred earth and debris.
The sky darkened as dust and debris clouded the atmosphere.
Birds screeched, fleeing in chaotic patterns, while weaker beasts collapsed from the sheer oppressive force of its presence.
Its roar tore through the heavens, shaking the very foundation of the land itself.
Still, it wasn't enough.
Nothing could quench the frustration that burned within the creature's core.
It wanted more destruction, more carnage, more blood to spill! But soon, there was nothing left to destroy.
The forest had been reduced to a wasteland, the once-thriving ecosystem now nothing but shattered remains.
The bio-engineered lizard finally slowed its movements, its heavy breath rumbling deep within its chest.
Inside the consciousness of the beast, Wei Long chuckled darkly.
He could feel the instinct raging within, seeking an outlet for its boundless aggression. But there was nothing left to kill, nothing left to rampage against.
He sighed. "Damn it… this thing is pissed as hell."
For all the destruction, for all the chaos, the biggest problem still remained.
How was he going to leave this place?
That elder would return, and if he wasn't careful, he'd end up either dead or captured.
Wei Long grimaced.
"If only I could take control of this body again."
But as it stood, there was nothing he could do. He could only sit back and watch, waiting for an opportunity.
"Whatever," he muttered to himself. "I'll figure something out."
The bio-engineered beast, its fury still simmering, let out one final, guttural growl before setting its sights on the horizon.
"I hope," Wei Long added.
…
On the other hand, Red'Ribbon and Zou Fang stumbled through the dense foliage, their bodies drenched in sweat, their lungs burning with exhaustion.
Their panting filled the silent night, sharp, heavy, ragged breaths that echoed between them.
The further they fled, the more suffocating the tension in their bodies became.
Not long, they finally collapsed near the roots of a towering ancient tree, their hands pressing against their knees as they gasped for breath.
Zou Fang clutched his chest, inhaling in rapid succession, his ribs expanding painfully.
Red'Ribbon leaned against the rough bark, closing his eyes as if that alone could calm the erratic pounding of his heart.
Pant.
Pant.
Pant.
Minutes passed, yet the struggle for breath did not ease.
Zou Fang wiped the sweat from his forehead and looked at Red'Ribbon, his voice cracking from the dryness in his throat.
"What... What the hell was that?"
Red'Ribbon's eyes slowly opened, but the haunted look in them made Zou Fang's stomach churn. "You saw it too, right? That wasn't the Wei Long we knew... Something is wrong."
Zou Fang swallowed, the image of the monstrous, terrifying creature flashing in his mind. "It looked like him. But it wasn't him."
"Maybe he was just in a bad mood?" Red'Ribbon suggested weakly, though his tone lacked conviction.
Zou Fang scoffed. "A bad mood? Are you joking? A bad mood doesn't make someone suddenly transform into a bloodthirsty, mindless killing machine! That was something else!"
Red'Ribbon sighed, rubbing his temples. "Then what? Do you think it was really Wei Long? Maybe it was something that looked like him?"
"Or something controlling him..." Zou Fang muttered, the words sending a chill down his own spine.
A heavy silence settled between them as they both stared at the ground, their thoughts spiraling into the unknown.
"It's Demonic Dao Essence," Red'Ribbon finally said. "It has to be."
Zou Fang's head snapped up, his eyes wide. "Are you saying Wei Long has been corrupted?"
Red'Ribbon shook his head. "Not corrupted. But affected. We all know that exposure to Demonic Dao energy can twist even the strongest minds. Maybe it was lying dormant in him the whole time, waiting for the right moment to take over."
Zou Fang exhaled sharply. "Then what do we do? We can't just go back to him. If he's under the influence of Demonic Dao Essence, then he's dangerous."
Red'Ribbon didn't answer. His silence made it obvious that he too didn't know what they should do.
Before either of them could say another word, a strange rustling came from the trees behind them.
They both tensed, their exhaustion forgotten, their hands moving toward their weapons instinctively.
A low, guttural growl sent a shiver down their spines. Slowly, they turned toward the source of the sound.
Emerging from the shadows was a beast unlike anything they had seen before.
Its body was covered in dark, writhing veins that pulsed with an eerie, crimson glow. Its eyes burned with malevolent energy, and its elongated fangs dripped with a sickly, black substance.
The Demonic Dao Essence clung to it like a second skin, twisting its form into something unnatural.
Zou Fang let out a hollow laugh. "I thought you said it was safe here?"
Red'Ribbon gritted his teeth. "Earlier, it was. Now? Not so much."
The beast lunged.
They barely had time to react, their swords clashing against the corrupted creature's hide.
It was fast—too fast.
Every attack they landed was countered with twice the ferocity.
The air became thick with the scent of decay, the oppressive aura of the Demonic Dao Essence weighing down on them.
Just as they managed to wound it, another beast emerged from the shadows. Then another. And another.
Within moments, they were surrounded.
Zou Fang cursed. "What the hell is happening?!"
Red'Ribbon didn't answer. He was too focused on keeping himself alive.
Blades flashed, claws tore, blood sprayed.
The two of them fought with everything they had, but the corrupted beasts were relentless.
Their strength did not wane, their numbers did not thin.
Zou Fang's frustration boiled over. "This is your fault! We should have never stayed here! We should have run farther!"
Red'Ribbon gritted his teeth. "Oh, and where exactly would we have gone? Do you think anywhere is safe right now?!"
"You should have known! You're the one who insisted we stop! Now look at us! We're going to die here!"
Red'Ribbon scoffed. "Maybe if you spent less time whining and more time fighting, we wouldn't be in this mess!"
Zou Fang growled. "You arrogant—"
Before he could finish, another beast lunged at him, forcing him to parry instead of argue.
They were losing ground.
Hope began to dwindle.
Their arms ached, their legs felt like lead. They could no longer keep up.
They were dead tired from running and no Qi from their bodies remained.
How can they fight back?
The beasts sensed it.
They closed in, their demonic eyes glowing hungrily.
Zou Fang clenched his fists. "Damn it...!"
And then at that critical moment, something happened—
A roar.
Not just any roar.
A deafening, earth-shaking, primal roar that sent shockwaves through the entire forest.
The beasts froze.
Zou Fang and Red'Ribbon's eyes widened in horror.
The air grew still.
A terrifying presence made its presence obvious for them.
Something far worse than the beasts with demonic dao essence around them had arrived.
And it sounded furious.
What do you think?
