Chapter 71: New look
Within the depths of Zou Fang's spiritual sea, Wei Long remained trapped in crystallization, suspended in a state of forced evolution.
His vision flickered with the glow of a system notification hovering in the void of his mind:
[Host is Evolving! Please bear with the process because if the host doesn't, nothing will actually happen.]
Wei Long's eyes twitched. "Why are you scaring me? Is this some kind of joke? My bio-engineered body—"
But before he could even finish his thought, an invisible force struck his entire being.
His massive Tyrannosaurus Rex body, enhanced with elongated claws and superior agility, shuddered within the crystal.
A strange sensation crawled through his bones, like thousands of hot needles piercing into his marrow, spreading agony across every fiber of his existence.
It started as an uncomfortable heat, then escalated into unbearable pain.
At first, it was as if his muscles were being stretched taut, elongated beyond their limits.
His claws itched as if they were growing longer, denser, sharper.
His tail twitched inside its crystalline prison, the once sleek scales bubbling, warping, thickening.
His jaw tightened—no, it expanded!
His teeth ached as they sharpened, forming jagged weapons far beyond their previous design.
Then, the pain intensified further.
Wei Long's very bones felt as though they were being shattered and reassembled over and over, each iteration more refined than the last.
He wanted to scream, but his body was frozen, trapped inside the crystalline shell that kept him encased.
Each second stretched into an eternity.
His nervous system ignited like fire, and his consciousness wavered between lucidity and pure agony.
Time blurred.
He wasn't sure if mere seconds had passed or if he had been suffering for eons.
Red'Ribbon, the Dragorooster watching from the side, felt his feathers stand on end.
The energy radiating from Wei Long was becoming unbearable.
Cracks formed on the surface of the crystal, faint at first, then widening rapidly.
A deep, ominous hum resonated through Zou Fang's spiritual sea, vibrating through its vast mental landscape.
Red'Ribbon took a step back, eyes widening.
"Zou Fang! Zou Fang! Something's happening! I think—" He paused, blinking as he tried to reach out telepathically to Zou Fang. Nothing. Silence.
His beak clenched, heart pounding against his feathered chest. "Zou Fang! Damn it, why can't I reach you!?"
The cracks on the crystal deepened. Red'Ribbon's body trembled as more fractures spread across its gleaming surface like a spiderweb of destruction.
Wei Long was changing—no, he was transforming into something beyond what they could comprehend.
The cracks grew larger.
The humming became a roar.
Red'Ribbon flapped his wings in panic, debating whether to flee or stay.
His rational mind screamed at him to leave, to escape before the thing inside the crystal emerged. Yet, his instincts told him otherwise.
This was Wei Long.
He couldn't just abandon him.
Wei Long's eyes, glowing a fierce radioactive green, suddenly snapped open within the crystal.
The entire space shook violently.
Then—the crystal shattered.
Wei Long emerged.
And Red'Ribbon could only watch in horror as his presence alone caused the very fabric of the spiritual sea to ripple, as if the world itself feared his awakening.
Not long, Wei Long stood up, his form radiating an overwhelming presence.
His already imposing body seemed even more refined, his muscles exuding a latent power, his claws sharper, and his eyes gleaming with a predatory glow.
The changes were subtle yet profound, and the air around him seemed to thrum with energy.
He flexed his long arms, his claws scraping against the ground with a sound akin to blades clashing.
Red'Ribbon, the Dragorooster, was utterly frozen in place, his feathers stiff as though turned to stone.
His beady eyes locked onto Wei Long's form, and for the first time, he felt a primal, instinctual fear take hold.
Every fiber of his being screamed at him to flee, to run as far away as possible. But his body betrayed him, refusing to move.
Wei Long took a step forward, his large talons clicking against the spiritual ground.
Then another.
Then another.
Each step was slow and steady but exuding an aura of dominance.
Red'Ribbon's heartbeat pounded in his ears, and his breathing became erratic.
Then, just as Wei Long was nearly upon him, he lifted his clawed hand—
"Poo!"
Wei Long suddenly burst out laughing, his sharp teeth gleaming in amusement.
"I'm just messing with you!" He cackled, shaking his head.
Red'Ribbon, however, was not amused. With a strangled squawk, his legs gave out, and he collapsed onto the ground, his wings twitching as if he had been struck by lightning.
Wei Long's laughter slowly died down as he looked at the Dragorooster lying in a heap.
"Uh… did I overdo it?" He muttered, rubbing the back of his head.
Red'Ribbon's body trembled, his tail feathers fluffed up to twice their normal size. Then, suddenly, he sprang to his feet, shaking furiously.
"You IDIOTIC REPTILE!" Red'Ribbon shrieked, his voice echoing across the spiritual sea. "Do you know how close I was to having a heart attack?! I thought you were about to eat me! Or worse! You—you—DO YOU THINK THIS IS FUNNY?!"
Wei Long blinked, then slowly nodded. "Well… yeah?"
"YOU STUPID, BRAINLESS, SADISTIC, OVERGROWN LIZARD!" Red'Ribbon flapped his wings wildly, hopping from one foot to the other in a frenzy. "YOU THINK THIS IS A JOKE?! I WAS READY TO SACRIFICE MYSELF! I WAS ALREADY SAYING MY LAST PRAYERS! AND THEN YOU PULL THIS?!"
Wei Long sighed, crossing his arms. "Alright, alright, I get it. I won't do it again."
Red'Ribbon glared at him. "You'd better not! Or else I'll—"
Wei Long rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah, you'll peck me to death, right?"
Red'Ribbon fumed but eventually let out a heavy sigh. Wei Long would ask, "Anyway, what's the situation outside?"
At this, Red'Ribbon calmed down and puffed out his chest. "Zou Fang is officially a disciple now. But it'll take a while before he gets a mission to hunt demonic beasts."
Wei Long's eyes narrowed. "Why's that?"
Red'Ribbon shrugged. "Outer disciples don't get many privileges. They're basically glorified errand boys. But soon enough, once Zou Fang proves his worth—especially by showing off me, of course—he'll rise up in the ranks."
Wei Long nodded. "I see. So that's how it is."
A moment of silence stretched between them. Then, Red'Ribbon's eyes glimmered mischievously. "But enough about that. What's with the new look?"
Wei Long smirked. "Oh, you want to know? Alright, listen closely."
With an exaggerated flourish, Wei Long launched into an overly dramatic explanation, his voice taking on an almost mythical tone.
"After enduring unimaginable pain, my body was reforged in the cosmic flames of evolution! My once-mighty form has now reached a new pinnacle! My scales are harder than divine steel!
"My claws can cut through the fabric of space itself! My eyes—yes, my eyes—can see through the very soul of my prey! I have become something greater than ever before!
"Something beyond mortal comprehension! A force of nature! The living embodiment of destruction and rebirth! THE ULTIMATE LIFEFORM!"
Red'Ribbon stared at him, unimpressed. "...Yeah, I don't buy it."
Wei Long pouted. "Come on! At least act like you're amazed."
Red'Ribbon snorted. "I'm a Dragorooster, not some naive chick. Spill it. What actually happened?"
Wei Long smirked. "Oh, wouldn't you like to know?"
Red'Ribbon narrowed his eyes. "Yes. That's why I'm asking."
Wei Long leaned in, grinning. "And that's why I'm not telling."
"WHAT?!"
Wei Long chuckled. "What if you betray me?"
Red'Ribbon flapped his wings in exasperation. "LOOK WHO'S TALKING! You almost ATE Zou Fang and ME!"
Wei Long threw his head back and laughed. "Hahaha! I think getting into a demonic sect wouldn't be a problem for me after all."
Red'Ribbon furrowed his brows. "What do you mean?"
Wei Long grinned, baring his sharp teeth. "Like this."
And with that, he vanished.
Red'Ribbon blinked. "...Wait. WAIT! WHERE DID YOU GO?! DAMN IT, WEI LONG!"
What do you think?
