Blackstone Code

Chapter 225:

Before leaving, Gap asked a rather heavy question.

"Will I die?" As he reached the doorway, with one foot already out, he stopped, turned around, and posed this question.

Would he die?

It was a worrying thought. In many films and even real historical events, certain "key individuals" had to unwillingly sacrifice their lives to keep others' secrets.

The best way to keep a secret was for everyone to keep their mouths shut forever, and no one was more reliable than the dead when it came to keeping secrets.

Neo shook his head. "We might lose some money now, but if you disappear, we'll go to jail."

Gap sighed in relief and left without looking back.

Shortly after his departure, a man emerged from a hidden door behind Neo. It was Mr. Auburn, Neo's father-in-law and the chairman.

At this moment, there wasn't a trace of panic on his face. The wine in the glass he held was perfectly still, as steady as a rock.

He walked to the door, locked the office, and asked the same question Gap did, "Will he die?"

Neo was no longer as relaxed as before. He even started biting his nails.

Nail biting was a very bad habit, but everyone knew that some bad habits were hard to change. When Neo was extremely troubled, he would bite his nails to calm himself down.

Auburn watched Neo as he stared blankly ahead. After a minute or two, Neo came to his senses, his expression complex. "Can you bear it?"

His voice carried a trace of unwillingness. "Decades of hard work could be lost in an instant. We would become the kind of failures we despise. Can you bear that?

"Can you give up your current assets, social status, and all your enjoyments to live like an ordinary person?"

Neo knew that if something happened to Listoan, the board would immediately turn against him. Counting on those shareholders to help him through the crisis?

That would always be a beautiful but unrealistic dream.

Then, all their previous and future actions would lead to their financial ruin and imprisonment.

A publicly listed company's CEO manipulating financial reports to deceive investors, causing them huge losses—this alone could land him in jail for a long time.

Freedom, wealth, status—everything would end due to a few foolish individuals' actions.

Accept fate?

Could he bear to?

After decades of hard work, they—father-in-law and son-in-law—had fended off countless prying eyes and thwarted many greedy hands. They had overcome numerous challenges, only to stumble on what should have been solid ground.

Could he bear it?

Neo wasn't just asking Auburn; he was also asking himself.

If he could bear it, it wouldn't be a big deal. Immediate compromise and admission of guilt might significantly reduce his sentence or even keep him out of jail, provided he left all his wealth behind.

But he couldn't bear it. Everyone knew money was just a string of numbers, but still, they couldn't let go.

Neo glanced out the window at the nice weather, his gaze extending far into the distance. "I hope he can make it through…"

No one wanted to resort to extreme measures until the last moment.

Meanwhile, Lynch, on the film set, looked up at the clear sky. The sunlight, unhindered, shone down warmly even through thick clothes.

A pleasant day in winter was indeed a joy.

Because of the strike, the film Fox and his son were shooting had been interrupted. They weren't directly affected, but some people had to join the strike to show solidarity with the workers.

To the real working class, this massive strike was like a war. To others who seemed like workers, it was an annoying farce slowing their money-making.

As soon as the strike ended, these people rushed back to the set to continue filming. They were more eager than anyone to finish work and get paid.

The weather was nice today, so Fox and his son invited Lynch to chat, watch the filming, and discuss professional women's rugby.

Lynch had gained fame in Sabin through a rugby match. He might not realize how famous he was, but people like the Foxes, who were deeply rooted in society, did.

Many people considered Lynch the savior of Sabin City and the hero of ruby and sports enthusiasts. Rumors circulated that Lynch was planning to establish various other sports teams, and as a result, his fame soared to new heights.

The Foxes might not be able to afford men's professional rugby, but they thought women's professional rugby might be within reach. They were considering organizing a game to test the waters, which was why they invited Lynch.

After the director cleared the area, the three of them remained by the set, not intending to leave. The director didn't dare say much since all three were investors, and he couldn't afford to offend them.

With no other choice, the director reluctantly called for the filming to start. In the eyes of the three men of different ages, the lead actress, wrapped in a towel, emerged from backstage, stunning them instantly.

The lead actress, an adult film star, could not possibly be unattractive; even ordinary or slightly attractive would not suffice. She had at least an 85 out of 100 for her looks and a 90 for her figure. In front of the three men, she unhesitatingly removed the towel and stepped into the shower.

Many people often wondered when watching such films why a beautiful girl would choose to make these kinds of films. Couldn't she have a good life by working hard in a different field or by being with someone who supported her?

In fact, the reason was rather simple. The key factor was financial gain, and they weren't interested in those people because they didn't have money.

Standing next to the set and watching the leading actress enter the shower, Old Fox glanced at his son and said with some displeasure, "You should close your eyes..."

Fox Junior chuckled. "I'm grown up, and do you think I haven't seen this before?"

Actually, regardless of the type of parents ones were, as long as they had a human soul and not something more sinister, and upheld basic moral values, they generally avoided creating embarrassing situations for their young children.

For example, when there were scenes on TV where men and women were kissing, hugging, or engaging in other intimate actions, they would shout the name of God while covering their children's eyes or sending them out of the room.

Old Fox raised his eyebrows. "You're always a child to me."

Fox Junior smiled, not arguing. Arguing with an old man, especially his father, was foolish. With paternal authority and an unreasonable attitude, he had no chance of winning.

Fox Junior's retreat left Old Fox feeling rather bored. His life currently was more comfortable than ever, which made him feel the urge to find something to occupy his time.

He looked away from the actress and toward Lynch. "Our rugby team is ready, and we found a coach. Should we start using them?"

Lynch withdrew his gaze and nodded after a moment's thought. "We can schedule it for this weekend, on Saturday. I'll have the field prepared and invite some people."

He was referring to President Elena. The concept and discussion of female professional athletes were still evolving and gaining traction. Making significant changes in this area was really not easy.

It might sound simple to let women play sports and respect them as athletes. But in reality, people would still view them with a certain bias.

This was a good chance to gather women's rights advocates and promote professional women's rugby. It would spark interest.

At the very least, people could see more women at a rugby match than at a bodybuilding competition. The men who lounged in front of their TVs with tissues and remote controls knew exactly what to choose.

"Shall we take a walk?" Mr. Fox suggested. Lynch glanced at him, and then they left the set.

They chose a secluded path with few people.

"I've encountered some trouble recently," Mr. Fox frowned. "You know, not everyone can repay the principal and interest. And I have to deal with you… haha."

Lynch remained silent, so Mr. Fox continued, "Sometimes, the amount owed to me isn't very large. For instance, there's someone who owes me eleven hundred, but he's currently broke. He does want to repay the debt and is even willing to work for me to settle it. What do you think I should do to recover the money?"

This was the type of person that financial companies feared the most. They were willing to do anything, but they just didn't have any money. This created a real headache for the companies. Some people even offered to work for the financial company in exchange for just a meal, asking for no salary at all.

In such situations, it was difficult for anyone to find a solution, including Mr. Fox. He believed that someone as clever as Lynch would surely have a way to help himself. After all, helping him also meant helping Lynch himself, as their interests were aligned.

Lynch frowned slightly. Dyson Asset Management still provided him with profits, and he didn't plan to end his business with Mr. Fox.

After a moment's thought, he had a solution. "Those with houses, lend them more until you can demand an auction to repay. For those without assets, send them abroad to work. The world is rebuilding after the war, and many countries need cheap labor."Please vote for this novel at /series/blackstone-code/There are advance chapters available nowAccess will be granted 24 hours after the donationTier 1: 7 Advance chapters Link
