Chapter Eighty Five
“Hahaha, stop it.” Kaede sat on the ground, laughing as a floating Syrup clung to her face, eagerly rubbing against her. She wrapped her arms around the small creature, cradling him. “I missed you too, buddy. Maple syrup forever, bestest of friends!”
Landing on the edge of the massive crater, Rimuru took one look at the scene and blanched.
“Is that… what I think it is?”
<>It appears the entity known as Charybdis has been transformed into the small turtle-like creature.<>
Rimuru’s expression went flat. “She turned Charybdis into a turtle.” He groaned, rubbing his temples. “That thing has more magicules than me, and she just made it a pet? That’s so unfair… At least she’s on our side.”
A blur shot through the air before landing beside Kaede with an excited bounce.
“Hey! Your name's Kaede right? I’m Millim Nava! Wanna play with me?”
Kaede barely spared her a glance, her attention still on Syrup. “Can’t you see I’m busy? Go away.”
“Ah…” Millim stiffened, her usual energy faltering.
Rimuru sweatdropped. 'So straightforward. I don’t think Millim’s ever been rejected like that before… This might turn into something else.'
Clearing his throat, he stepped forward, trying to ease the tension. “Now, now, Millim, maybe you should give her some space. Allow me to introduce you...”
Kaede shot him a sharp glare.
Rimuru instantly felt a cold sweat run down his spine. “Or not. We can do introductions later, since you’re, uh, obviously busy. Come on, Millim, why don’t we just leave the nice lady alone...”
“Hey! Why are you ignoring me?” Millim huffed, leaning down until her face was right next to Kaede’s. “What’s so important about this tiny tortoise? I’m way more awesome than some dumb animal.”
Kaede froze mid-pet, her hand hovering over Syrup’s shell.
Rimuru suddenly felt the air shift, a suffocating mix of heat and cold flooding the surroundings at once. A heavy, unnatural pressure weighed down on him, making his slime body feel sluggish.
“H-Hey now,” he stammered, trying to defuse the situation. “Let’s all take a deep breath. Maybe go for a walk… away from Tempest, preferably.” He gulped. “Please don’t fight here.”
Kaede slowly turned her head, her gaze locking onto Millim.
Her purple eyes gleamed ominously in the dim light.
Rimuru shivered. 'That’s so creepy!' He whimpered internally. 'I wanna go home!'
Kaede took a deep breath, forcing her rising fury down. ‘Relax, Kaede. She’s just a child. No need to get angry at a kid seeking attention.’
Syrup wiggled in her grip, still trying to latch onto her face. She absently stroked his shell, using the small motions to center herself.
Then, she turned to Millim. “Look, Millim Nava. First of all, his name is Syrup, and he’s a turtle, not a tortoise.” Her voice was calm but firm, carrying an underlying warning. “And secondly… I don’t care if you’re a Demon Lord. But if you ever disrespect Syrup again, I’ll kill you.”
Rimuru exhaled slowly. 'Phew. Thank goodness Kaede is so responsible. Tempest is safe.'
Millim, however, grinned, her sharp canines peeking through. “All for a tortoi-turtle? I’d like to see you try.”
Kaede sighed. “A child like you could never understand.”
Rimuru froze. 'Oh no.'
Millim’s pupils shrank to tiny dots.
Her fists blazed with crackling pink energy, the sheer heat warping the air around them. She clenched her jaw, then lashed out, a punch so fast it shattered the sound barrier.
"Don't!"
Kaede caught the movement in the corner of her eye, already shifting her head out of the way.
Then, in that instant...
Syrup floated forward, reaching for her face.
"Call me!"
Kaede’s eyes widened.
Without hesitation, she jerked her head back to its original position, shoving Syrup out of the way.
"A child!"
Millim’s fist connected.
BOOM!
The impact split the air, a deafening explosion erupting on contact. A shockwave ripped through the crater, flattening trees and sending debris flying in every direction.
Finding himself at the edge of the crater in his slime form, Rimuru’s form wobbled violently as he barely clung to the edge. “Oh, come on!”
The explosion finally settled, the smoke and dust gradually clearing away to reveal the battlefield.
Kaede stood her ground. Her posture was slightly tilted back, one foot braced behind her, while Millim’s fist remained pressed against her face.
Her eyes burned with a silent, seething fury.
'She almost hit Syrup.'
Her gaze snapped onto Millim, her muscles tensing as she pushed forward, defying the Demon Lord’s raw strength.
'She tried to kill Syrup.'
Millim blinked, momentarily surprised. “Not bad…”
A fist slammed into Millim’s face.
A flash of notifications filled Kaede’s vision.
[Mana Surge] [Strength Boost] [Attack Boost] [Knockback] [Counter] [Exploding Touch] [Reality-Breaking Blow]
The world lost color, everything fading to an eerie grayscale as time seemed to slow to a crawl.
Kaede’s hair burned a deep crimson, her form radiating an overwhelming pressure that warped the air around her.
Her fist remained buried in Millim’s cheek. The Demon Lord’s head had barely started to turn from the sheer force of the impact.
Then...
The ground beneath them turned red.
The earth melted instantly, liquefying into a swirling pool of lava and molten slag. The once-vibrant green of the Jura Forest blackened in an instant, all vegetation burnt to ash from the sheer heat radiating outward.
And then...
Millim vanished.
A brilliant red line seared itself across the landscape, stretching from Kaede’s position and tearing through the western forests of Jura. It carved straight through a distant mountain, the once-mighty rock face shattering like brittle glass before the force dragged even further into the horizon.
First, the sound came...
PING!!
Rimuru stiffened, his body instinctively shifting back to his human form as his eyes tracked the line, slowly following its path into the far distance.
“…Did you just kill Millim?”
Then...
The explosion came.
BOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
A colossal wall of fire erupted, chasing the red line as it raced across the landscape.
From an outsider’s view, they would have seen an unstoppable cascade of fire bursting out of Jura, its sheer force splitting the sky apart. With every passing second, more and more walls of flame detonated in sequence, each one growing taller, roaring as they stretched beyond the forest...
And toward Falmuth.

Here’s your scene with improved flow, pacing, and immersion while keeping Kaede's panic and Hanae’s admiration intact:
---
"Oh crap!" Kaede gasped, staring in horror at the aftermath of her loss of control. "The forest!"
A massive canyon now split the entire western expanse of Jura in two, a deep, smoldering scar carved through the land. Molten rock still glowed faintly along the jagged edges, and the once-lush greenery had been obliterated, reduced to charred remnants and drifting embers.
Behind her, Rimuru sat frozen, his eye twitching as he slowly lowered himself to the ground, turning back to his slime form, utterly unresponsive.
Kaede felt her hands tremble as panic set in. "Ah, ah, ah. Hanae!" she practically yelled.
A soft, green glow shimmered through the air, and within moments, Hanae, the Dryad, materialized before her.
"You called, Mother?" Hanae’s voice was gentle, yet filled with unwavering devotion.
Kaede nodded frantically. "Hey, Hanae, you can fix this, right?" She gestured wildly at the gaping wound across Jura’s landscape, her voice tight with desperation.
Hanae turned toward the destruction, her golden eyes widening in awe as she took in the sheer scale of it.
"Amazing, Mother. Truly, your power knows no limit."
Kaede grabbed Hanae’s shoulders, shaking her slightly. "Now's not the time to start praising me! Can you fix it?"
Hanae smiled, unshaken. "Of course. However, I doubt I have enough magicules to restore everything in one go."
Kaede exhaled sharply, nodding. "Then take as many magicules as you need from me. Just hurry up and fix it, while I fix Rimuru."
Hanae’s eyes gleamed with excitement at the permission, her form glowing brighter as she raised her hands toward the ruined landscape.
"Then, I shall begin, Mother."
Green light surged from her fingertips, spreading like shimmering veins of energy that slithered across the cracked earth. The molten canyon groaned as vines and roots burst forth, weaving together, stitching the land back to its former shape. Grass regrew in an instant, new trees sprouting as though time itself had rewound.
Kaede, however, barely paid attention.
She turned back to Rimuru, who still sat on the ground, staring blankly into the distance. His expression was hollow, as if his soul had momentarily left his body.
Kaede crouched beside him, waving a hand in front of his body. "Hey, you in there?"
No response.
She sighed. ‘Oh boy. I broke him.’
Reaching out, she gently poked his slime body.
It jiggled slightly.
Then she poked him again.
And again.
And again.
Poke. Poke. Poke.
Finally, Rimuru groaned, snapping back to reality with a sluggish shiver. "Kaede."
She tilted her head. "I'm sorry?"
He slowly turned to look at her, his voice eerily calm. "Apology not accepted."
They both sat there for a moment.
Then, in the distance, a faint rumble trembled through the ground.
Rimuru slowly turned his head toward the horizon, where an ominous, pink-glowing shockwave was building, rapidly growing larger and larger by the second. The air vibrated, the very sky warping around the approaching storm of energy.
Kaede, still sitting cross-legged, simply tilted her head in mild confusion.
Rimuru, on the other hand, immediately screamed internally.
‘SHE’S COMING BACK.’
He shot upright. "Kaede, we need to leave. Right now!"
Kaede gave him a blank look. "Why?"
The pink shockwave burst forward. A blazing comet of destruction was streaking toward them at hypersonic speeds, leaving a firestorm in its wake. The clouds were parting, the sheer force sending shockwaves ripping across the landscape.
A very familiar voice echoed across the entire sky.
"KAEEEEDEEEEEEEE!!!"
Rimuru paled. "That's why!"
Kaede watched the approaching explosion, rubbing her chin.
"Ah. That’s a little fast."
Rimuru whirled on her. "A LITTLE?!"
Before he could say more, a pink blur smashed into the ground with the force of a meteor, shaking the entire forest and launching Kaede straight into the air.
For a moment, there was only silence.
Then, a furious Millim Nava emerged from the impact crater, her hair wildly whipping in the wind, fists crackling with devastating energy.
"I'M GONNA KICK YOUR BUTT!"
Rimuru immediately dove for cover, carrying the innocent turtle with him.
Kaede, still airborne, sighed.
"Guess round two starts now."
And with that, she let gravity pull her back down.
What do you think?
