Chapter 33: Chapter 33 You Look Really Good
“So that’s how it is!” Mengmeng understood.
After lining up in the corridor, the children of Class 1 walked towards the playground under the guidance of their homeroom teacher.
On the playground, the sixth-graders stood neatly on the plastic track, each holding a bright red scarf in their hands.
“The Young Pioneers admission ceremony begins now…”
On the stage, as the principal’s voice faded, the national flag was raised, and the anthem played.
“Now, may the sixth graders please come forward to tie the red scarves for the new Young Pioneers!”
After the anthem stopped, the principal’s voice rang out once again.
The older students from sixth grade came forward one by one to tie the red scarves on the new first-graders.
“Little girl, you really are pretty.” A sixth-grader tying Mengmeng’s scarf complimented her while securing the fabric.
“You have good taste,” Mengmeng nodded in complete agreement.
“Uh…” The older student paused, then burst into laughter, and couldn’t resist pinching her soft cheek, “You are so adorable!”
That was too narcissistic.
“Because I am…” naturally adorable!
Before Mengmeng could finish her sentence, she saw that an arm was seized firmly from the corner of her eye.
Mengmeng turned her head and saw Gu Zhihan beside her, his face taut with barely concealed anger as he glared at the older boy, whose wrist he had grasped.
“Don’t you know it’s rude to touch a girl’s face like that!”
Despite Gu Zhihan’s small frame, he exuded overwhelming presence, his tone mature beyond his years, especially the cold light flaring in his eyes which made the older boy instinctively let go of the hand pinching Mengmeng’s cheek.
“Uh, I’m sorry…” He apologized for his earlier behavior.
“What good is an apology?” Gu Zhihan’s voice grew even colder.
He had touched his girl’s face; what use was an apology now?
The older boy scratched his head with an innocent expression, truly not understanding why the younger boy was so angry.
After the Young Pioneers admission ceremony concluded, Gu Zhihan promptly pulled Luo Mengmeng by the arm toward a corner. @@novelbin@@
“Hubby, aren’t we going back to the classroom?” Mengmeng followed him, looking at his back and asking.
It might just be her imagination, but she felt like Hubby was angry again.
“…”
Hearing this, Gu Zhihan stopped, turned to look at her but didn’t reply. Instead, he furrowed his brow and started rubbing her cheek with the pad of his finger…
He was rubbing the exact spot where the sixth-grader had pinched her earlier.
“Gentler, Hubby, you’re hurting me…” As his force increased, Mengmeng’s cheek turned completely red, the pain causing tears to swirl in her eyes.
“Serves you right!” Gu Zhihan’s voice was still cold, but his hands stopped moving.
Mengmeng covered her reddened cheek with her hand, looking at him with woeful eyes.
“Does it really hurt that badly?” Gu Zhihan’s eyebrows knitted together again, somewhat regretting that he had used too much force.
“Yes!”
Mengmeng’s voice sounded even more aggrieved.
“It needs a blow to get better,” she pointed to her reddened cheek, looking at him pitifully, on the verge of tears.
“Fine,” Gu Zhihan stepped forward reluctantly, cradled the little girl’s porcelain-white cheek in his hands, and gently blew on the swollen area.
The young boy’s crisp breath fell onto Mengmeng’s fluffy cheek, warm and somewhat ticklish, like the tender breeze of April, soothing away the previously sharp pain.
What do you think?
