Chapter 67 Babysitting Protagonist? No thanks.
Alden looked at the stage where the legendary battle between Lucien and Zephyr was happening.
Legendary, my foot…
More like massacre.
Zephyr was wiping the stage with Lucien.
And to be honest, it was not surprising.
Zephyr at this phase was a lot stronger than Lucien.
'Boom'
A sound echoed as a kick connected fairly on Lucien's ribs.
'Crack'
The sound of bones cracking could clearly be heard.
The sound echoed within the vast stadium ground.
After all, why wouldn't it be? Because the whole stadium was as silent as a dead rat.
Nobody even moved.
Long gone was the sound of murmuring.
Only silence remained now.
Alden saw Lucien crashing into the barrier as a deafening thud sounded.
Lucien could barely even get up.
'And that, kids, is how you get humiliated because of arrogance.' Alden thought as he looked at Lucien's all-bloody and broken body.
He was a true mess.
'It's over.'
Well, at least that's what most people here think would happen.
But Alden had different thoughts.
'How could the protagonist go down without a struggle?'
And true to Alden's suspicion, Lucien vanished and got up.
'At least the 'never giving up' personality is the same.'
But just then something happened—
Alden saw Lucien's body crackling with blue energy.
He recognised the skill.
Lightning Rush.
It was one of the spells that high-level users use and was unlocked to Lucien due to his Mana Tome.
But that's not what surprised him.
'Why is he using it now?'
Alden had already accepted the change of personality of Lucien and that he had become a simp.
But this was just straight-up stupid.
Using that technique would gain nothing but trouble for him.
Why?
Because of Lucien's brother.
His brothers were dangerous.
They would probably try to get rid of Lucien on any opportunity they gain if they see him becoming too powerful.
Subtly, of course—assassinations, political traps, the usual brotherly love in this world.
After all, Lucien was an heir to the throne.
The version of Lucien that Alden knew never flaunted his abilities recklessly.
He was someone who would rather be beaten up than reveal something that would put him on the hit list.
But Alden didn't have any right to criticise the current version of Lucien.
Why?
Because he himself wasn't any different.
He would also reveal all his abilities rather than get humiliated like that.
But still, it did surprise him.
Lucien is acting like a totally different person.
Like he is possessed or something.
But Alden didn't care much about Lucien.
Why would he?
After all, Lucien was defeated by the demon king in the end.
Babysitting the simp protagonist was not on his to-do list.
The fight…sorry, the massacre was still ongoing.
Even after Lucien activated his technique, Alden still could not see any way for Lucien to win.
To make things worse, Zephyr had already unlocked Phase Two of his special ability. Something that wasn't supposed to happen at this point.
'Meh…'
Alden rubbed his temples.
Alden didn't even care about these changes now.
But Alden could guess the reason for Zephyr's change, though.
Honestly, it made sense.
Zephyr had evolved because Alden had actually injured him during the entrance exam—a rare feat.
It was obviously because Zephyr hadn't taken him seriously, but still. It had an effect.
But for poor Lucien, though?
Zephyr was in full kill mode from the start.
Alden looked at Aziel. "So…. when are you going to pay me?"
"I don't know what you are talking about, bro." Aziel answered, averting his eyes.
"Well, it was your idea to bet on the underdog." Alden said with a smug grin.
"You should have known underdogs beating someone strong only happens in novels."
"Now give me the Astra."
"I-i don't…. know what you are talking about" Aziel denied, "Do you…do you even have any proof about that?"
"Proof you say," Alden quickly pulled out his ManaSync. "Well good for you I always am prepared."
He played a recorded file on his device.
["Bro, who do you think will win?" : Aziel
"I think Zephyr": Alden
"No, bro, you don't know anything. I think the third prince will be the winner.
Do you want to bet with me?": Aziel
"Ok, let's do it." Alden ]
"See this," Alden grinned. "You were saying something?"
"Now give me my Astra,"
"H-Hik… Bro, please don't be like this. This month's been kind of tough…" Aziel swallowed hard. "
"I don't care, I want my money." Alden said sarcastically.
"Bro…. please…Don't be like that." Aziel requested, "I'll pay you back next month."
"It wouldn't have been so hard if you had saved your credits instead of spending them carelessly for some useless junk."
"You don't get it, man. I needed that custom aura polish." Aziel said dramatically.
"Ok fine, I'll forgive you this once as I am a very generous person." Alden had a smug grin.
Just as they were talking, loud cheering interrupted them.
The match was over.
And the result.
The bloodied and unconscious body of Lucien was being carried out of the stadium.
Alden barely reacted.
Called it.
But he did notice Seles running toward Lucien, her face twisted in frustration.
What, not happy with your investment.
Clearly, she had expected something different. A win, maybe. Or at least not total annihilation. But Zephyr's unexpected power-up had ruined that.
It was truly a game changer.
At least that's what she thought, but Alden knew something else.
The power Zephyr shows to the outside was just half of his power.
He was still hiding something…things that Alden knew.
That was his confidence as to why Lucien couldn't win against Zephyr.
__
Zephyr stood calmly on stage revelling in his victory. His body was marred with many small cuts and injuries.
But the deep gash on his hand was the most visible.
He didn't even react to it as if he was already used to such injuries.
He had a satisfied smile on his face.
He scanned the crowd.
His eyes paused on a beautiful girl with black hair and blue eyes.
Nyx.
He gazed into her eyes with an unwavering attitude.
She was also looking at him, her face as unreadable as always.
"You are next." He spoke, but his voice was drowned by the noise in the stadium.
But it was enough for Nyx to understand what he was saying.
Nyx didn't respond as she got up from her seat and left quietly.
Her questions were still unanswered.
But now she had narrowed down some possible persons within the academy, although not all of them were in top students.
But they were all interesting.
The Zephyr guy was strong.
Lucien exuded a mysterious energy.
There is one boy who exuded a very ominous energy, enough to even make her feel chills.
Another guy who exudes energy similar to celestials.
And finally that fool, Alden.
Her instincts screamed at her to ignore him—he was an idiot.
But…
That dangerous girl was watching Alden closely.
Amyra Celestrian.
Nyx had felt fear from very few people in her life.
Her father was one.
Amyra was another.
Nyx had felt the same or even more amount of danger than what she felt from her father.
How can that even be possible?
She couldn't understand.
But she knew one thing: that girl is dangerous, and such a girl was keeping an eye on Alden.
That was enough reasons for her to add Alden in the list.
She was confused how a world like this has so many mysteries.
More importantly.
Why was this world hidden till now?
She understood there was something more at play here.
But she simply didn't care.
She only had one mission.
To find HIM.
That's all…Nothing more, nothing less.
She was going to complete the mission and go back quickly.
She didn't care if this world was destroyed or even decimated as long as her mission was complete.

A week later.
Alden sat cross-legged in his training room.
Today was the weekend, so not much was planned for him.
He had even asked Aziel to not bother him for two days, as he had something important to do.
He was going to try a chaos trial.
His preparations were done.
What preparation?
Just getting used to his new realm and abilities.
He had trained continuously for the last week without going out much to stabilise his strength.
And that finally bore fruit as he could now properly call himself an Initiate Rank.
Every time a person ranks up, their strength increases, so it is harder for them to get immediately used to it.
It needs time.
To get body and mind coordination.
Alden took out his sword of chaos.
Nothing much has changed in its appearance except one thing.
The red patterns on the sword were now more visible and were looking ominous.
But to Alden…
The sword was the most beautiful weapon he had held.
The sword seemed to hum with energy as Alden held it.
Alden had noticed it.
But it was common.
Soul weapons can grow and develop with their users, and hence every such weapon had different abilities depending on their users.
Well, except the shapeshifting ability. As that ability was common in any soul weapon.
Alden was sure his sword had started to develop its ego.
Although it won't be anytime soon.
But it was still a progress.
'You should learn something from it.' Alden thought as he touched the spirit pearl, which was showing no signs of growing.
He quickly put the Spirit Pearl back.
'It's time to get a power-up,'
He quickly stopped thinking about useless thoughts as he quickly channelled his mana inside his sword, willing for the third effect to activate.
"Here I come,"
Alden's body started distorting as he vanished without a trace with only his sword floating alone, which also fell to the ground soon after.
The Chaos Trial had begun….
