Chronicles of Forgotten Extra

Chapter 72 Real Trial Begins?

As soon as Alden entered the portal, his body started to distort as it vanished from the barren planet, leaving Gretta and Biribri alone.

Gretta calmly looked at the portal where Alden had vanished.

Whereas Biribri looked uneasy.

"Mistress, is it…Is it alright for Alden to leave without knowing about that?" He asked Gretta with a hesitant voice.

"Don't worry about it, Biribri, if he truly has the qualifications, he will survive." She said calmly…

"But…but mistress, what if–"

Before he could say anything, Gretta interrupted him.

"Now, now… Biribri," she looked at him. "I know you are worried about him, but it is an important step for his own growth."

"And Biribri, he is not an ordinary guy….he is one of the Supremes of his world."

Biribri's eyes widened in surprise.

'Supreme.'

It was not a title just given to anybody.

It was a title only reserved for people with the highest potential.

'If the mistress is saying that, then it must be the truth.'

"But Mistress, he was weak… too weak. He continued, "So, how can he get that title?"

"That's what I don't understand as well." She said, pondering, "It should not have been possible to have that title unless one is at a higher rank."

Gretta mused, 'Just how did he get that title?'

It was a mystery even to her, who was considered one of the strongest of her world.

There's something going on within that world.

What was its name?

Eryndor.

Gretta had never heard of that world.

She quickly dismissed her thoughts.

She simply didn't care what was going on in some random world, as it was the problem of residents of that world.

'Moreover, my main body already has some ideas about the situation.'

Gretta's eyes wandered to Biribri, who was still looking dazed, as if lost in some profound thoughts.

"Rather than thinking about useless things, think about how to grow strong, or else you might get stuck on this planet for the next 1000 years."

Gretta said with a mischievous smirk.

"Now let's resume our training." She said, her smile widening, "I believe this was enough time for you to rest."

Biribri took a slow step back, his face growing pale

"Mistress…that…uhm…could we perhaps resume our training from tomorrow?"

Biribri was desperate to delay the training, even if by one day.

"How can we do that? My…dear…d.i.s.c.i.p.l.e" She deliberately spoke slowly.

Biribri gulped.

Training had resumed.

And it was going to be hell

Alden's body materialised on the other side of the portal as the one behind him vanished.

He was in a lush forest.

There was no one there.

He stood there in confusion.

The heck?

I thought Gretta's main body would be here.

Just as he was getting impatient, he heard a voice.

"I am here, though, Alden."

Just as he listened to the voice, Alden's body shivered unconsciously. His hair stood at the end.

Thump…

Thump…

Thump…

His heart was thumping like drums, as if it would burst out of his body.

He tried to calm down, but his body wasn't listening to his commands.

"Oh my, I'm sorry, it seems I forgot to suppress my energy." The melodious voice echoed again.

The invisible pressure Alden felt was lifted but his knees immediately gave in as he fell to the ground.

His breathing was rough, and his mind felt disorganised for a moment.

Most of the time he never felt much pressure from stronger people, as his title 'Slayer of Ruler' gave him resistance to such.

But this was different.

It wasn't just pressure.

It was an instinctual fear.

He barely managed to calm down after five minutes.

Gretta waited patiently as if having all the time in the world.

Only after he fully calmed down did she speak.

"Are you ready?" She asked, "Other participants are already gathered."

Alden raised his head slightly, looking towards the direction where Gretta was standing.

A frown appeared on his face.

"Who are you?" He asked curiously, looking at the woman standing there.

She was an elf not a gorilla.

Her beauty was ethereal, to say the least.

Her golden hair shone, catching the light, her green eyes were looking at Alden in amusement.

Who was she?

Did Gretta send someone else?

Yeah, that must be it.

"Oh my, did you forget about me already?" She said with a mischievous smile. "It breaks my heart that you don't even remember me."

Alden felt puzzled.

Who was she really?

Why was she talking as if she knew me?

Wait…

That speaking pattern…

It looks similar to—

Alden's eyes widened in disbelief as he looked at the woman in newfound familiarity.

"Ms Gretta," he said, his voice failing to hide his surprise.

"But how? …uhm….I mean—" He couldn't think of anything.

"Alden, did you think I would be some gorilla woman?" She continued, "That was just because of—"

"Oops, sorry, can't reveal that to you."

"Well, let's just say that was due to a special condition on that planet."

She spoke with a casual smile.

Alden was shocked …

Too shocked.

But Gretta didn't give him any chance to be shocked as his body was lifted off the ground.

"Well, that's enough chit-chat, let's go now." She said as she snapped her fingers slightly.

Both of them disappeared.

No trace was left within the forest as if they were never there to begin with.

_

In a vast plain, many people were gathered, ranging across different age groups.

They were waiting for the last two hours.

For the last candidate of the trial.

A beautiful girl with pink hair and red eyes stood among the crowd, her beauty was enough to make even the fiercest of knights stare at her.

How could they not?

After all, she was a descendant of one of the powerful clans which specialised in charming ability.

She was currently surrounded by many young people of her age group.

She was Ella Ravienne.

"Hey Ella, who do you think is coming?" A boy with blue hair asked her; his name was Ron.

"I don't know, Ron," she said, "but they must be someone important enough for the Sovereign of Emptiness to escort them personally."

"Do you think they will be strong?" Another pink-haired girl said.

She was Seles, the childhood friend and cousin of Ella.

"Well, they should be strong." Ella said, "But it doesn't matter, as everyone's strength will be suppressed to a similar level."

Just as they were talking a figure materialised in the air above attracting the gazes of all people in the plane.

Everyone recognised the beautiful woman standing effortlessly in the air.

But there was something else with her.

A boy with pitch-black hair and red eyes hanging upside down.

"Pfft…" Ella couldn't control her laughter seeing the silly face that boy was making.

She quickly suppressed her laugh before anyone could even see her.

Who is that guy?

He looks handsome.

But I don't feel much power from him.

He looks weak.

Too weak.

Then why did the sovereign herself go to pick him up?

Is he someone special?

Or is he… perhaps the new disciple of the sovereign?

No….that can't be possible.

After all, according to the treaty, the sovereign couldn't send anyone related to her to the trial.

I'll find out soon enough.

Ella couldn't help but be curious about the guy.

_

Gretta didn't care about what anyone was thinking, as her playful demeanour had vanished as soon as she appeared in this place…. replaced by indifference.

Her face was cold enough to even freeze molten lava.

"Attention," She spoke softly, but her voice still echoed through the plane.

The whole place had become as silent as a dead rat.

"All the candidates are here. Let's begin the trial now." Gretta said as she calmly scanned the whole area.

"The trial will be simple," she explained. "You'll all be thrown in a dungeon… and you'll have to find the weapon art yourself."

"The location of weapon art will be revealed only after the boss monster is defeated."

She continued,

"And the boss monster will appear only when ten candidates are present inside the dungeon."

"There is no other rule."

"The person can either give up voluntarily or die."

She snapped her fingers as a small ring appeared on every candidate's finger simultaneously.

"If you give up, this ring will teleport you outside the dungeon." She said in her cold voice.

"All your ranks will be suppressed to the lowest candidate level." She said, looking one last time.

"That's it."

Completing her explanation, she casually snapped her fingers again as all the candidates vanished at once except Alden.

He looked at Gretta.

"Good luck, Alden." She spoke to him one last time before he too vanished, being sent to the dungeon.

_

Gretta stood in the air for a while.

Her gaze scanned the crowd which was still there.

They were the people who had arrived here with the candidates.

But she didn't care.

They were irrelevant.

She had conducted the trial many times before.

But this time?

It was different.

Finally a true successor appeared.

One capable of inheriting the real legacy of Lucia.

Lucia was the supreme of her world after all.

Gretta was sure the Sword of Chaos choosing Alden was not a coincidence.

Lucia.

It must be the will Lucia…she had left inside the sword that chose Alden.

But how did that sword reach Eryndor?

What did you see back then, Lucia?

Why didn't you share it with me?

Was I that unreliable to you?

Gretta thought in self-deprecation.

If only I had been stronger back then?

She had always blamed herself for Lucia's death… and she will continue to do so.
