Chapter 889: Chapter 889: Caleb Mamet Cooks Personally
Xaviera was stunned by Cory Hughes’s shamelessness. His family had become wealthy through the Russell family’s financial support, and then he had abandoned his wife and children when he felt powerful enough. Now, he even had the audacity to covet the Russell family’s fortune? If it hadn’t been for her grandmother’s decisiveness in cutting all ties with the Hughes family, they might have already been oppressed by them.
Just as Xaviera was simmering with resentment, suddenly a pair of warm, large hands enveloped her waist and pulled her into an embrace. The hot breath sprayed on her neck, and a deep male voice came from behind her ear: “I won’t abandon you.”
The afternoon sun shone through the window onto both of them, and Xaviera squinted her eyes. Suddenly, the man leaned closer, shielding her from the harsh sunlight, his deep eyes filled with affection. His cool lips opened slightly: “Not every man is like Cory Hughes. At least I won’t fancy other women, nor will I ever let you suffer unjustly.”
Xaviera’s body tensed, and her heart pounded violently. She looked at the man in front of her and felt a stinging sensation in her eyes.
Caleb Mamet spoke with utmost sincerity: “Xaviera, I love you. That’s why I won’t give myself any chance to get close to other women. I swear on my life that I’ll only love you in this life, and only you.”
Having said that, he slowly lowered his head and gently pecked her lips.
“Caleb!”
His cool fingers pressed against Xaviera’s lips, softly caressing them. After a long time, he slowly stood up. Xaviera collapsed on the sofa, as if all her strength had been drained.
Caleb smiled helplessly: “I only kissed you, but Mrs. Mamet is already out of energy. You’re too weak. You need to exercise more; otherwise, how will you be able to withstand me?”
Xaviera’s cheeks turned red as she glared at Caleb indignantly, her voice full of grievance: “What are you talking about? It’s all because you bullied me that I… ”
Caleb bent down to pick her up, “My mistake, Mrs. Mamet. Don’t be angry anymore. Do you still have the strength to walk? Or do you want me to carry you out?”
Xaviera: “…” This was a Western restaurant, and Caleb would be carrying her downstairs to the parking lot, where they would encounter many people. How could she face anyone if they saw her in this state!
Xaviera huffed angrily before jumping out of his arms. Leaning on the table for support, she walked unsteadily toward the mirror. The woman in the mirror had moist, autumnal eyes and slightly flushed lips, making it obvious that the two had been up to something scandalous in the room. What was even more infuriating was that Caleb had left a kiss mark on her neck at some point, standing out starkly against her fair skin.
Caleb also noticed the mark on her neck and said softly after a moment of silence: “Wear a scarf; it’s a bit cold outside.”
Xaviera stared at him in anger, but Caleb seemed oblivious to her fierce gaze. He picked up the scarf from the table and put it on her: “Are you hungry? Would you like to go home for a meal?”
Xaviera turned her head away, her cheeks puffed up with anger, refusing to talk to Caleb.
Caleb’s gentle expression remained unchanged, “I’ll cook; what do you want to eat?”
Xaviera looked up in surprise. Did she hear correctly? Caleb was going to cook? She still vaguely remembered the inedible meal he had once made.
Caleb said nonchalantly: “Does Mrs. Mamet despise my cooking so much? In that case, let’s go home and do something more meaningful.”
Xaviera’s face instantly turned crimson. She knew what Caleb meant by his words. Ever since they had slept together, this despicable man had always threatened her with “that kind of thing.” Who would have imagined that the seemingly cold Caleb would be so wild in bed?
She suddenly remembered that the butler had mentioned Caleb had been studying recipes and frequented the kitchen lately. The butler was puzzled, asking if the company had no work lately since the president had become so bored as to learn cooking?
Xaviera looked at Caleb with doubt. Was it because she had despised his cooking before that he had been harboring a grudge and wanted to redeem himself?
With a nervous heart, Xaviera obediently followed Caleb to the supermarket. He had purposely given the servants a day off today so that he could cook for her without anyone else at home.
Xaviera spoke apprehensively: “You don’t have to cook yourself. We can go to a restaurant.”
“Mrs. Mamet, I’ve dedicated myself to studying the recipes. I promise that the food will be delicious this time. Will you trust me?”
Looking at Caleb’s handsome face, Xaviera really couldn’t bear to refuse him. Reluctantly, she followed him into the supermarket, immediately attracting many stares.
What do you think?
