Chapter 36 - 36. Parent-Teacher Conference and Conflict
"What’s up with Old Xia, didn’t we agree to come to Xiao Xiao’s parent-teacher meeting together?" On the way to school, Yao Jiping voiced her indignation on behalf of her best friend.
Lin Jing gave a wry smile and shook her head, "Someone contacted him about a shipment that had arrived, and after the call he rushed out so fast, he didn’t even put on his shoes."
"I’m telling you, men become rotten once they have money. You better keep an eye on him, or he might end up fooling around with some disreputable woman." Her own husband was driving ahead, and Yao Jiping whispered this in Lin Jing’s ear, leaning closer.
Lin Jing felt her heart skip a beat as she suddenly recalled her husband’s lack of enthusiasm when it came to helping with homework this time!
Could something really be going on...
"Hmm." She fell silent all at once, unwittingly distorting the seat cushion in her grip without realizing it.
...
Xu Qingfan and the rest had been stationed early at the school gate, holding up the sign for Class 16 to direct the incoming parents.
Lin Wanning didn’t leave after school but stayed cheerfully at his side, chattering non-stop.
"How come it’s only you here, son? Where’s Xiao Xiao?" Xu Mom and Xu Dad along with Aunt Lin approached, not knowing when they had gotten out of the car. Seeing that Xia Xiaoxiao wasn’t around, Xu Mom asked with confusion.
"Hello Auntie! Hello Uncle."
"Eh~" Yao Jiping came forward and tousled little Wanning’s head.
"Xiao Xiao went to direct other parents. Oh? Why isn’t Uncle Xia here?" Xu Qingfan looked around but didn’t see Xia Guofu’s figure.
"Your Uncle Xia, he’s gone to work again." Lin Jing was still a bit distracted but forced a wry smile when Xiao Fan looked towards her.
It wasn’t the first time, so Xu Qingfan didn’t mind much, taking his mother’s arm, he said, "Follow me, I’ll take you to the meeting hall first."
"Mom, where’s Dad?" From a distance, Xia Xiaoxiao saw the group that included her mother and Aunt Yao and quickly ran over.
"Your dad went out again," Lin Jing sighed. She crouched down to comfort her daughter.
Xia Xiaoxiao was ready to throw a little tantrum, but seeing the tired expression on her mother’s face, she opened her arms and hugged Lin Jing tightly, burying her face in her chest, "Mmm, it’s the same with you here, Mom. Having you is enough for me!"
Holding her daughter, Lin Jing took a deep breath, her heart which seemed empty just moments ago felt suddenly full.
After leading the group into the meeting hall, Xu Qingfan walked leisurely through the campus, holding Xia Xiaoxiao’s small hand.
"Don’t know what to say, so I’ll do a flip for you." Seeing Xia Xiaoxiao looking downcast, Xu Qingfan accelerated his pace, turned around, and went for a backflip.
Landing on the cement covered with moss, he lost his footing and fell with a thud on his bottom.
Watching Xu Qingfan’s comical tumble, Xia Xiaoxiao’s previously tense face twitched slightly, and a hint of a smile appeared.
"Idiot." She stepped forward and helped Xu Qingfan up.
Dusting off the mud from his butt, Xu Qingfan said, "Come on, why the long face? What’s so great about a parent-teacher meeting? Incompetent teachers are the ones who ask for parents. Your dad missing out? That’s his loss. Do you think just any kid can score full marks? Only us, the Sleeping Dragon and the Fledgling Phoenix!"
Xu Qingfan’s attempt at consolation had no effect, and Xia Xiaoxiao gave him a sidelong glance, "Can’t be bothered with you, let’s go, we still have to guide the parents."
As they were nearing the school gate, they saw from a distance two unfamiliar little boys grabbing at Zhang Yiyi’s ears, apparently trying to snatch her hearing aid, but time and again she deftly avoided their grasps.
The two boys, irritated by Zhang Yiyi’s dodges, suddenly pushed her to the ground.
"Damn it!" Xu Qingfan cursed out loud, let go of Xia Xiaoxiao’s hand and was about to rush over to give those two little CSs a couple of Foshan Shadowless Kicks.
But someone was faster than him.
A shadow burst from some corner and with a raised leg delivered a flying kick to one of the boys’ stomachs, sending him flying a couple of meters away in the blink of an eye.
Then came another beautiful high kick, the leg tracing a lovely arc in the air, ending squarely on the face of the other boy who was still in shock.
"Holy shit!"
I thought Lu Bu was already invincible under heaven, but to my surprise, there was someone even braver than him—who could this commander be!
Xu Qingfan, in a panic, ran over and only then saw clearly that the person who had just kicked someone was actually Xiao Ruawen!
Looking at the two kids lying on the ground, Xu Qingfan’s mouth twitched, [Are you sure your name isn’t Riven instead of Ruan Wen?]
The commotion immediately attracted the attention of the teachers and parents nearby, as people who were scattered around quickly gathered.
Xu Qingfan didn’t pay attention to Xiao Ruawen’s situation and stepped forward to help Zhang Yiyi up.
When the little girl saw her group leader coming, she clung to him like a drowning person grasping at their last straw.
Xu Qingfan tucked Zhang Yiyi’s hair behind her ear and looked at her red ears—he wished he could kick those two people a couple more times.
"Which class are you from, how dare you hit our students, have your parents come yet, call your parents here!" It seemed the teacher of the two boys who were hit had arrived and scolded Xiao Ruawen, pointing at her.
Ever since kindergarten, Xiao Ruawen had always been a good child with both character and learning, deeply loved by teachers and parents—she had never been yelled at by a teacher before.
Feeling deeply wronged as she was aggressively pointed at by the other class teacher, Xiao Ruawen’s eyes reddened instantly, "It was your class’s students who started the fight!"
"You little girl, don’t talk nonsense, which eye of yours saw my son hit someone, I’m telling you, if my son’s face is ruined, I—I will make sure your family pays!" The mother of one of the naughty boys, seeing her son’s face swollen like a pig’s head, trembled with rage.
"It was your sons who bullied Zhang Yiyi first!" Xiao Ruawen had a lot she wanted to say, but overwhelmed by emotion, she could only shout out these words before tears spilled from her eyes.
Xu Qingfan couldn’t stand it anymore.
He had a brainwave and took off the hearing aid from Zhang Yiyi’s right ear, secretly slipping it into his pocket.
Xia Xiaoxiao, somehow, was already standing by Xiao Ruawen’s side, glaring coldly at the people opposite her.
Xu Qingfan handed the trembling Zhang Yiyi to Lin Wanning and then took the loudspeaker from the gatekeeper who was standing aside watching the commotion.
"Attention everyone, attention everyone!
The hearing aid of Zhang Yiyi, a student from the first-grade sixteenth class, is missing. Everyone please watch where you step, everyone please watch where you step—if you see something that resembles earphones, please pick it up and return it. The hearing aid is imported from America and is worth two hundred thousand. Attention everyone, attention everyone!"
After Zhang Yiyi’s classmates’ initial astonishment for two seconds, they all began watching their feet, making sure they didn’t accidentally step on and break something worth over two hundred thousand!
As the crowd quieted down, Xu Qingfan took Zhang Yiyi’s hand again and came to Xiao Ruawen’s side.
"What a fuss! Who allowed you to take the loudspeaker!" Seeing Xu Qingfan holding a megaphone, the opposing class teacher reached out to snatch it away.
Xu Qingfan dodged with a swift move and stepped back two steps before turning the loudspeaker back on, "This teacher, your student has lost my classmate’s hearing aid. I advise you to call the police now. Something worth more than two hundred thousand, you, a university graduate of just a few years, can’t afford to compensate!"
Li Tie Feng’s heart wrenched, but still stubbornly said, "Which eye of yours saw it was our class student who lost the hearing aid!"
"That’s right, you’re not even fully grown and you know how much two hundred thousand is?" A parent standing by also chimed in.
Xu Qingfan pointed directly at Zhang Yiyi’s ear and shouted, "My team member’s hearing aid was originally worn here, your two darling sons reached out to snatch it, causing my classmate’s ear to be all red with the initials CS fingerprinted on it, you can’t deny it!"
The square fell into a deathly silence.
He had already subdued the situation, but the parent of another child somehow arrived as well.
"Wuu~ Daddy, someone hit me, daddy you have to kill her for me!" Hearing his son was hit and seeing the black shoe print on the white shirt, the parent immediately flared up with anger.
Most parents in China would demand three points even without reason, not caring about the crux of the matter, and raised a hand to slap Xu Qingfan.
"Damn! I’m giving you face, and you dare to hit my son!"
Xu Qingfan was prepared to be slapped, but the hand poised to hit him hung in the air, not coming down.
"Damn! I’m giving you face, and you dare to hit my son!" Xu Aiguo, unbeknownst to when, had appeared behind him, grabbed the incoming hand, and with a push, sent the person tumbling to the ground.
What do you think?
