Chapter 829: Chapter 490: The Stabbing Sun Sequence
Logan sensed trouble in his heart and hurried to Snow Wood’s side with three quick steps, blending into two. He threw his arms open to shield her in his embrace, and at the same time, a protective barrier instantly rose around his body, enveloping them both within.
As the light faded, many onlookers tensely turned their gaze toward the arena. After all, nobody expected such a move from someone who had just been declared out of the competition.
The hastily constructed array by Logan was fragile; upon the fall of the inner sphere, light scattered in all directions, releasing countless streams of Spiritual Power from the compressed confines of the small orb, bursting forth with tremendous energy.
Fortunately, Logan reacted quickly enough to shield Snow Wood behind him; otherwise, she would have likely been injured.
The first to rise up in fury, slamming the table, was an Elder from Snow Wood’s Sect.@@novelbin@@
“A Demon Cultivator is just that, without a bottom line, already given leniency with the rules stating that anything goes on the battlefield, and we were just playing by the rules. And now a contestant who was supposed to be out plays such a trick—how disgusting!”
The speaker was a woman with a rather attractive face and a curvaceous figure, appearing to be only in her thirties with her charm intact.
However, her actual age was far from young; she was already several thousand years old, and she was Snow Wood’s Master, which is why she was so infuriated upon seeing Snow Wood nearly harmed.
Luke Skyward didn’t speak, only casting a cold glance at the woman before returning to the side of his Master.
The Sect Leader’s face was as dark as if it might drip with water; he was indeed angry, but not with Luke Skyward’s underhanded tactics.
After all, for their breed of magic, anything that could secure victory or survival, even a sleight of hand, what of it?
But the crux of his anger lay in the ease with which Luke Skyward had been taken down, which he found an unbearable source of frustration.
Before leaving for this place, he declared confidently to the Elders of his Sect that he could certainly secure the Saint Emperor Legacy with him.
It now seemed he would face their mocking ridicule upon returning home.
The berating words of Snow Wood’s Master just now fell on deaf ears, as if punching into cotton: though others also disdained such behavior, they weren’t the ones competing on stage and didn’t say much.
After being saved by Logan, Snow Wood’s eyes filled with disbelief; she had never imagined her opponent would lend help.
At that moment, she even felt as if she had never truly understood Logan; in her eyes, although he was a diligent Cultivator with immense Talent and had a chance to emerge victorious, he wasn’t much different from the others.
Now, things were different; faced with an unexpected crisis, he chose to help, and this stirred a touch of emotion in Snow Wood’s heart.
It seemed that Logan indeed had good character.
Despite being touched, the competition was still on, and the Saint Emperor Legacy was what mattered most. As for gratitude, that would have to wait until the match was over.
Although it seemed unlikely that Logan would compete with her for first place in his current state.
Nevertheless, Snow Wood didn’t let down her guard, stepping back from Logan and, with a lift of her hand, gave a formal thanks to Logan.
“Thank you for what you did just now, but let’s finish this fight first.”
Logan, catching his breath, saw Snow Wood put away her Longsword, seemingly she had no intention of using close combat against him.
This was within Logan’s expectations, as his displayed talent in close combat wasn’t weak, and Snow Wood probably hadn’t fully grasped his capabilities and didn’t dare to take the risk.
With only thirty million Spirit Stones left, Logan would have to give up even if he didn’t want to.
But before giving up, he truly wanted to test whether he had the ability to claim first place.
Thus, he no longer hesitated; his hands gathered Spiritual Power while the array, drawn with his already dried blood, began to emit faint light once more.
This time, even if not for the Saint Emperor Legacy, he wanted to try—to give an account to his past self.
Snow Wood also became serious, with a Flame Python coiling at her side, obviously looking for an opportunity.
Both were adhering to the principle of not acting if their opponent didn’t move. Of course, Logan refrained from making the first move, partly because he felt safer standing within his own array and also because he was slowly regenerating his Spiritual Power.
The Elixir given by Nineteen was down to the last one; this meant he could at most launch 2-3 massively amplified attacks.
Seeing Logan taking no action, Snow Wood waved her hand and two red-purple Flame Pythons raced forward.
Of course, it only took the shape of Pythons; it didn’t literally mean that the flames became snakes, but the sight was enough to instill fear.
The Pythons flew down from midair and stepped into Logan’s array, seemingly bound by thin air, unable to advance even a little further.
They twisted their bodies, trying to escape the bind, to no avail.
Snow Wood slightly furrowed her brows; luckily, she hadn’t recklessly engaged in close combat within Logan’s territory, otherwise she feared she would end up like those helpless lambs.
But aside from those arrays, Logan still might have other tricks up his sleeve, so she needed to be cautious.
With each moment the array remained, Logan continued to use Spiritual Power to maintain it.
Operating such a domain of his own, as well as the existence of a Spirit Gathering Array, consumed a lot of Spiritual Power every second. Seeing that Snow Wood was unwilling to attack directly, Logan took a few seconds to gather Spiritual Power in his fists and charged toward Snow Wood.
What do you think?
