Chapter 836: Chapter 493: City of Nine Wings_2
The man was also a wine enthusiast.
Originally, the Wine Maiden detested items like wine, for it was wine that had led her to lose her virtue. However, due to that Immortal, she had fallen in love with wine and learned to brew it for him.
Ever since she was betrayed, she no longer believed in any true feelings or true love in this world, convinced that all men deserved to die.
Logan’s magical imprisonment was shrinking more and more, and the places where the Wine Maiden could escape were becoming fewer and fewer. Her claws constantly scratched at the Spiritual Power, trying to break through a gap to escape, but Logan’s array was not something ordinary humans or ordinary demons could decipher.
So the Wine Maiden scratched futilely for a long time without being able to make any headway.
In the end, the Wine Maiden was tired. She had stopped launching attacks, thinking she could handle it if her opponent was a low-level scattered Immortal.
She never expected that Logan would turn out to be a big shot of the second tier in the Holy See.
If she were at her peak with nine tails, she would have been able to fight Logan, but that could only be a distant dream now, an opportunity she would never have in this lifetime.
The Wine Maiden was tired. Tears filled her fox eyes. In the instant she blinked, two tears fell into the underground array.
Seeing that the Wine Maiden had stopped struggling, Logan also stopped exerting pressure on her within the array.
The Wine Maiden gasped for breath.
“Death would be a relief; I can finally die with this cursed child. My hope was to give birth to him and let him experience the pain I went through. I wanted to repay all the pain his father caused me a hundredfold on him!”
As she spoke, the Wine Maiden’s fox tail flickered weakly, and she could no longer move her claw. Blood gushed from her mouth.
“However, it seems I won’t have that opportunity…”
“It’s good to die, to be free from it all…”
Logan didn’t even have to lift a finger; the Wine Maiden, trapped in her own inner demons, breathed her last.
Logan felt a sigh of regret and a sense of desolation for the Wine Maiden’s fate.
He couldn’t assure that everyone in the Cultivation world had a forthright path, but he also couldn’t allow a demon harmed by his predecessors to just go around hurting others.
Logan walked over and picked up the fox’s body that used to be the Wine Maiden.
Her last tail had also been severed.
All nine of her lives were gone; she was as dead as one could be.
Without thinking, Logan swept his spiritual sense over the Wine Maiden’s body, only to discover a small life inside her still had a heartbeat, and its heartbeats were steady and strong, enough to tell that it would definitely be a good seedling for cultivation.
Logan’s mind stirred, recalling the Wine Maiden’s words before her death.
Because she had been hurt by another Immortal, she wanted revenge on men. Although she also spoke with hatred about the child yet to be born, she never vented her fury towards the man on the child in her womb out of resentment.
Could it mean that she actually had a place for this child in her heart?
Perhaps her earlier speech was meant to divert all his attention to her, thus overlooking the unexpected survival of the small life inside her.
Logan shook his head.
It had to be said that the Wine Maiden was truly wary of men.
Logan took out a small knife and sliced open the Wine Maiden’s belly, indeed revealing a small blue and white fox inside.
The little fox still had its eyes closed and hadn’t awakened yet. Logan carefully dabbed a cloth with water, wiped the little fox’s entire body, and then placed it inside a Space Ring capable of storing living creatures.
This Space Ring that could store living creatures was his reward for winning second place in the great competition.
He had initially found it somewhat superfluous as he didn’t need to store any living creatures then, and could simply form a Contract with a favored one instead, rendering the storage ring superfluous.
However, thinking it over, since it was a reward from the competition, it was still a treasure, so he quickly made it his by dripping his blood on it.
Now it turned out to be very useful, and Logan was glad he had won second place; otherwise, he wouldn’t have had anything that could store living things on hand.
Carrying the little fox out as it was would likely cause a stir.
Logan cleaned up the scene, dispersing all traces of his presence and carefully packed the Wine Maiden’s corpse within a cloth bag before leaving the private box.
When he reached the first floor, Logan noticed a strange phenomenon—all the men seemed as though their souls had yet to return to their bodies and were still in a half-dream, half-awake state.
Although that wine had the effect of absorbing yang energy, it shouldn’t have caused such a severe reaction.
Logan randomly grabbed a man’s wrist and placed two fingers on his pulse, channeling spiritual power through his fingertips and into the man’s body to start investigating.
There was nothing seriously wrong with the body, and aside from some yang energy loss, there was nothing unusual. However, during his investigation, Logan suddenly discovered that one of the man’s vital souls was missing.
No wonder they were acting so dazed and foolish; it turned out that one of their vital souls had been pilfered.
Fortunately, he had been extra observant when leaving, for if those men’s vital souls had remained scattered for too long, they most likely would have died. @@novelbin@@
The Wine Maiden truly despised men to have left such a trap behind.
Logan shook his head and sighed.
Unwilling to be responsible for more killings, he immediately set up a vast array right then and there within the Hundred Flowers Pavilion.
The spiritual energy in the air burned quickly as Logan skillfully manipulated it to complete the array.
As the array became active, the scattered souls that had no place to go seemed to find direction and began to surge toward their respective owners.
By the time he finished, Logan was completely exhausted. With a flick of his finger, the array, which had been formed by gathered spiritual power, dissipated.
Outside the city, Logan buried the Wine Maiden’s body and returned to the City Lord’s Mansion with the still unopened-eyed little fox.
All of this took place over the course of a single night.
Originally, Nineteen had given Logan three days to solve the issue, but seeing now his chosen individual was so capable, he was overjoyed.
So, when Logan returned to his room, he found Nineteen sitting beside a table with a freshly opened jug of wine, looking at him with a smile.
“My disciple has returned so quickly; it seems three days was indeed too long. I trust that you’ll have no problem with the next Secret Land.”
His words revealed two pieces of information.
The first was his intention to take Logan as his disciple, and the second was that the upcoming opportunity he had for Logan involved a Secret Land.
Logan didn’t beat around the bush, since he had already promised earlier, and going back on his word would be improper behavior. He knelt straight down and kowtowed to Nineteen on the spot.
“Master above, please accept your disciple’s bow.”
Logan’s straightforwardness pleased Nineteen; he knew he hadn’t misjudged this lad.
Though he had refused to acknowledge him at first and even exhibited a tough attitude, in the end, things turned out well.
As far as he was concerned, a good outcome was all that mattered.
“No need for kneeling, my good disciple. You have the little fox with you, right?”
Sometimes Logan was truly curious about Nineteen’s identity; it was as if he had installed a camera to monitor his every move, nothing could escape his eyes.
“Yes, Master, I have the fox here; it’s currently recuperating inside my Space Ring.”
Logan trustedly took out the little fox.
The fox was indeed tiny, only about the size of a palm.
But it looked quite endearing; after all, who wouldn’t like a fluffy little creature?
Nineteen scrutinized the little fox carefully, nodding occasionally, then shaking his head.
Just when Logan thought he was about to say something, he said nothing.
“Alright, it’s settled then. I will accompany you to the entrance of the Secret Land, and from there on, it’s up to you.”
Logan was puzzled. What kind of Secret Land was it, and why hadn’t he heard of any opening recently?
What do you think?
