Chapter 34 - 034 New Trouble
Chapter 34: Chapter 034 New Trouble
Roger feigned confusion, “What did you say?”
Amanda snorted coldly, “I asked where you went last night?”
“Last night?”
“You came to my room last night?”
Roger looked at Amanda.
Her pretty face turned red, “I had something to do last night and came looking for you, but I knocked on the door for ages without getting a response…”
...
“Wait a minute!”
Amanda raised her eyebrows, “Why do I need to explain this to you?”
“What I want to ask you now is, if you weren’t in your room last night, where the heck did you go?”
“Roger, Amanda, come down for breakfast!”
Just then, Adeline’s voice suddenly came from downstairs.
“Alright, I’m coming now!”
Roger responded loudly before quickly pulling on a piece of clothing.
“You’re not leaving until you’ve made things clear!”
The girl stood with hands on hips, blocking the door and stubbornly spoke.
“Amanda, come down to eat, you’re going to be late for school!”
Adeline called out again.
“I know…”
Amanda reflexively opened her mouth, but just as she was about to speak, a figure suddenly darted over, and a strong palm forcefully pressed on her lips!
“Bang!”
Their bodies pressed together, hitting the door and making a slight noise.
Amanda’s eyes widened as she stared at the handsome face so close to hers, her eyes almost shooting fire.
“What are you yelling for, do you want Adeline to know we’re in one room?”
Roger whispered an explanation.
Only then did Amanda realize the problem, but she still glared at Roger furiously. She bit down on Roger’s palm, not too gently, and he quickly withdrew his hand in pain.
However, recalling the soft sensation from his palm, Roger couldn’t help but glance over.
“What are you looking at!”
Amanda scolded in a low voice.
Roger was about to say something when he heard the sound of Adeline’s footsteps coming upstairs. He panicked, pulled Amanda aside, and quickly walked out.
“Aunt Adeline, I was just about to take a shower, but it seems there’s a problem with the tap…”
Roger led Adeline towards the end of the corridor, and Amanda quietly breathed a sigh of relief, “I’ll let you off for today, but if you don’t explain things to me, hmph…”
A gleam of triumph flashed in her eyes as Amanda pulled the door open and walked out.
“Sister?” @@novelbin@@
A confused voice came from behind.
Amanda turned her head to see Little Jack, his sleepy eyes blinking as he adorably looked at his sister.
He turned puzzledly to glance at another room not far away, “How come you’re coming out of Roger’s room…”
Mid-sentence, the little fellow’s face turned to surprise as he covered his mouth, “You two…”
“Stop those dirty thoughts right now!”
Amanda stepped forward and grabbed her chubby brother’s cheeks, “Breakfast is ready, hurry downstairs to eat, you’re going to be late for school!”
“Ah…”
Little Jack whined pitifully, “But Sis, we have extracurricular activities in our grade today, we don’t need to go to school…”
“You’re still going downstairs to eat breakfast!”
Amanda insisted somewhat imperiously.
“I know, you don’t want mom to find out about what just happened.”
Little Jack had a sly look on his face, “Hehe, that’s easy.”
He put his hands on his hips, “Give me half of your pocket money!”
“Why don’t you just rob me?”
“Then a quarter!”
“Go tattle then!”
After a bit of haggling, they finally settled the dispute with a new toy to keep Little Jack’s mouth shut.
Looking at her satisfied younger brother, Amanda blinked, what have I done? Why did I agree to this?
We didn’t do anything, did we, Roger?
“It’s all that guy’s fault!”
During the meal, Amanda glared fiercely at Roger, who appeared calm and collected on the surface but was internally calculating how to handle Amanda’s questions.
Telling the truth was definitely not an option, but saying nothing at all probably wouldn’t end well either.
Just then, Adeline received a call. After a few words, she grabbed a sandwich and hurriedly left.
“Roger, later you help me take Jack to the town museum; there’s an issue at the police station, I need to go first!”
“Amanda, have a good day at school!”
Knock knock!
Amanda knocked on the table, her expression unfriendly as she looked at Roger, “Spill it, what’s going on?”
Roger furrowed his brow, “Go to school first, I’ll tell you everything when you get back.”
“I promise!”
Seeing the serious expression on Roger’s face, Amanda was momentarily fooled; she hesitated and then nodded.
Little Jack, not understanding the situation but thinking about the toy he was about to receive, wisely kept quiet and happily ate the food on his plate.
Amanda ate a few more bites before kicking off on her bicycle to school, while Roger waited for Jack to finish eating, then took him to the town museum.
The town had several hundred years of history and was said to have produced many outstanding people. There were several old families in town who had collectively funded the construction of this museum.
Roger didn’t have to go to school for the next few days as the paperwork at school hadn’t been settled, so after handing Jack over to his teacher, he leisurely made his way back home.
As he passed an intersection, he saw a crowd gathered in the distance, seemingly discussing something. Roger wasn’t very interested at first, but he overheard words like “beast attack” and couldn’t help but stop.
“What happened?”
The addressed man was wearing a sun hat; he looked up at Roger, “Another beast attack occurred, the body was just discovered in the woods near the north road.”
Roger was stunned, the place mentioned by the man seemed to be along his usual route to the Hunter’s Cabin in the forest?
“When did it happen?”
“The body was found this morning, mangled beyond recognition, said to be quite gruesome.”
“The time of death must have been last night. What was he doing in the woods late at night?”
The middle-aged man sighed, “Things haven’t been peaceful lately; you young folks better not wander off without reason.”
Roger nodded in agreement.
“Has the identity been confirmed?”
The middle-aged man shook his head, the police have issued a notice and are trying to identify the body.
Roger frowned, feeling a shadow creeping into his heart, “Beast attacks are happening again, was it a coincidence that the victim appeared there?”
Linking this to his recent encounter with Ivy, Roger felt as if an invisible hand was reaching out from the darkness towards him.
“I must increase my strength quickly!”
He had tried yesterday, and the books assimilated by the Hunter’s Cabin couldn’t be materialized anymore. Even if he gave up the Soul Transference Book, that woman probably wouldn’t let him off.
Regardless of whether the man was killed by a beast while stalking him in the woods, increasing his strength was of the utmost importance.
He spent all his money on necessities, then chose a new location and ventured deep into the forest.
Stopping here and there along the way, he searched for herbs according to his memory until his backpack was full; only then did he change direction and head to the Hunter’s Cabin.
Once he had set up all his equipment, Roger began mixing potions.
What do you think?
