Chapter 65: Chapter 065 News from Bedlam
“Did you not detect anything unusual when you first asked him?”
From the beginning, Henrik would always open his pocket watch in the dim light whenever he faced each inquiry.
Henrik shook his head, “The guy was telling the truth, I really didn’t expect his concealment to be so deep. I didn’t ask too many other questions.”
Roger furrowed his brow and thought for a moment, linking together all the information he had at hand, “It looks like Hannam’s abnormalities are definitely linked to this guy called Gilmore.”
“If Hannam had been preparing for this mysterious ritual for many years, he must have rehearsed it numerous times, making backlash highly unlikely unless someone interfered with his plans.”
“Moreover, compared to Hannam, Gilmore was strong and robust. Without preparation, he definitely wouldn’t stand a chance against Gilmore.”
Roger analyzed.
“It’s very likely he gained all the fruits of Hannam’s labor.”
“The Evil Spirit in the manor!”
Henrik nodded, “That makes a lot of sense.”
“That could also explain why, after learning about the manor’s tragedy, he was still willing to take others there to spend the night.”
“I think his purpose wasn’t for thrills at all, he was feeding the Evil Spirit!”
“This guy, using the flesh and souls of living people to nourish his Evil Spirit, by such means, can swiftly magnify the power of the Evil Spirit in a short period.”
“If he possesses some Secret Technique, he could even carry the Evil Spirit with him!”
“What’s currently unknown is whether this guy stumbled upon the situation by chance or has been secretly observing Hannam for a long period.”
“If it’s the latter, then he must be a member of the Transcendent World, perhaps holding other abilities as well.”
Henrik glanced at Roger, “Sometimes, you shouldn’t overestimate your own strength. In the Transcendent World, there are all sorts of strange abilities. If you’re not careful, even a seemingly insignificant power could exact a heavy toll.”
Henrik pushed his speed to the limit, not going to the address provided in the files, but instead quickly headed to the place where they initially found Gilmore and the others.
The house was empty.
Henrik cursed under his breath and drove into town to the address listed in the files.
By then, it was nearing evening, and the overcast sky had long obstructed any sight of the sun. Henrik took out his pocket watch and told Roger to keep it close.
“Be careful, wait for my signal!”
He darted into the bushes beside him and after a few leaps, vaulted over a low wall into the backyard.
Even though he constantly used firearms, Henrik’s strength and agility far surpassed that of a regular person. They had agreed on a code: Henrik would search while Roger would stand by outside to respond.
As time ticked by, Roger gripped his dagger and hid in the bushes. Suddenly, a figure leaped down from the second floor of the house, sending a shock through Roger and tensing his body, ready to spring into action.
“Come out, he’s not there.”
Henrik jumped down from the second floor.
“The house has been empty for a long time.”
“There haven’t been any signs of habitation for the past few months.”
“No need to waste time here, let’s ask around for others.”
After driving to a bar near the center of town and disciplining several thugs consecutively, Henrik finally obtained Gilmore and his people’s new address.
But when the two arrived at the new address, all they found were several other people.
“Where’s your boss?”
Henrik asked coldly.
“You mean Del?” a Burly Man with narrowed eyes responded.
“That guy is dead!” someone beside mentioned.
“Now Gilmore is our new boss.”
“But where has he run off to again?”
The few were already too drunk to be coherent.
Meanwhile, Morsen, holding a phone, walked in from outside, “We have a new development.”
Henrik and Roger walked outside.
“Take a look.”
Roger handed Henrik a few documents, “I checked the changes in the manor after Gilmore started working for Hannam, over the past year.”
“About every three months, a servant was replaced in the manor. Starting from then, there would be a replacement periodically until recently, when a thorough purge took place.”
“Aside from Mr. and Mrs. Hannam and Gilmore, everyone else is new.”
“Do you have information about those who left?”
Henrik frowned.
“I’ve already made some calls.”
Roger sighed.
“Unfortunately, they are all dead!”
“Dead?”
“Five people?”
Roger nodded.
“Five people are dead, and no one found that odd?”
Henrik’s complexion grew unpleasant.
“I just asked around simply, but I found one thing in common.”
“Each of these five deaths was an accident, seemingly inconceivable, but they all happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time…”
“And then, just happened to die, without any trace of human involvement, as if it was just bad luck.”
Henrik thought for a moment and added, “As if they were cursed.”
“Hold on, I need to make a call.”
Seeming to recall something, Henrik turned and walked away to make a phone call. It wasn’t long before he returned, his perplexed expression not alleviated, but rather more intense.
“There’s something else, I don’t know if it relates to that Gilmore.”
Roger added.
He handed Henrik a medical report.
“Three months after Gilman became Edith’s horse-riding coach, Edith became pregnant…”
“You suspect…” Henrik glanced at Roger.
“Although there are no offspring, based on the previous information, Hannam is capable of impregnating a woman.”
“Of course, he is indeed older now, but that doesn’t make it impossible.”
Henrik whistled, “You suspect the horse-riding instructor rode the wrong horse?”
Roger’s eyelid twitched, please, when discussing this matter, can you not look so envious, as if you wish to take his place.
His expression quickly turned serious, “Now all the clues converge on this guy named Gilmore. Finding him, we can uncover the secrets of the Hannam manor, figure out the truth, and deal with the Evil Spirit.”
“Are there any other clues?”
Roger shook his head.
“Before, I didn’t pay attention to Gilmore. Now, re-examining the information, I realize this guy is deeply hidden. Many key people and evidence have disappeared.”
Through the gloomy clouds, a ray of sunshine peeked out, but unfortunately, it was just the last glimmer of a setting sun.
“Let’s go, to the Hannam manor, and spend another night on watch, to see if we can find some clues.”
At that moment, Henrik’s mobile phone in his pocket vibrated with a light sound. A flicker of confusion crossed his face, then he answered the call.
“Mr. Henrik, there’s been a situation here, I think you need to come over.”
“Hannam… he started talking.”
What do you think?
