Chapter 69: 069: Hannam's Purpose
Chapter 69: Chapter 069: Hannam’s Purpose
“I still remember his expression at that time, indifferent without a trace of pity.”
Gilmore swallowed saliva, his body shaking violently.
“He said he needed a child, so he approved of my temporary relationship with Edith, but due to accidents, we lost two children in a row.”
“But he didn’t want to give up, he wanted to try for the third time.”
“After saying that, he turned and left.”
“I was locked in a room in the basement of the manor, where someone sent me food every day. So, under this house arrest, a month passed by.”
“To be honest, although I was under house arrest during that time, deep down I actually felt a bit of anticipation, because at Hannam I would be with Edith again.”
“Maybe afterwards I would be dealt with, but at that moment I couldn’t think that far anymore, thoughts of seizing the day filled my mind.”
“One day, a month later, two burly bodyguards brought me to Edith’s door, where they stood guard. After pushing me in, they locked the door.”
“A familiar scent filled the room, it was Edith’s favorite perfume, and through the light gauze hanging over the bed, I could vaguely see a silhouette within.”
“At that time I was extremely excited, even forgetting life and death, only wanting to see her once more.”
“But when I approached the bed and saw the figure lying there, I was stunned.”
At this point, Gilmore’s emotions became extremely unstable, his body trembling wildly, his eyes filled with endless fear.
“Edith, lying on the bed, had loose skin and a pale complexion, her eyes dull, staring at the ceiling as though she might die at any moment.”
“My passion was instantly extinguished, and I fell to the ground in fright. What difference was there between this Edith and a corpse?”
Just then, Hannam’s eerie voice came from within the room, “What are you standing there for?!”
He sat in a dark corner, the dark muzzle of a gun aimed at my body.
“I was terrified, but how could I possibly get up in that situation?”
“Mr. Hannam, perhaps we can try artificial insemination,” I suggested.
“No!” Hannam refused me.
“He said he liked it this way, it was part of the ritual.”
I was terrified and charged towards him, but Hannam knocked me to the ground with just one blow.
“They fed me a potion, and then under the muzzle of Hannam’s gun…”
At this point, Gilmore broke into tears, and even Roger felt a chill. It suddenly reminded him of the advertisements for surrogates he had seen on the telegraph poles in his previous life.
Gilmore’s experience could only be described as shockingly cruel.
“This Hannam must have been preparing for more than a day or two,” Henrik said to Roger.
“From the start, he picked his target, then step by step lured the victim into his trap. The ritual had in fact already begun, and that Edith was key.”
He frowned, “But why would Hannam do such a thing? As far as I know, the Soul Exchange Ritual, though complex, doesn’t require such acts?”
“Is it merely pure perversion?”
“This guy definitely isn’t performing the Soul Exchange Ritual for the first time; this Hannam is very dangerous!”
Meanwhile, Roger looked at Gilmore with a bit of sympathy. It seemed some boundaries should not be crossed. The man before him had lost his young body and a happy life, and was also mentally devastated.
The rest of his life would be trapped in this aged shell, and oh, this mental asylum as well.
“Wuwu… Every following day, they would take me to Edith’s room, and then feed me potions to repeat the process of the first day…”
“Until one day, when I woke up again, I found myself kneeling in a pool of blood, with shockingly red stains all over the walls and floor. I saw my own aged hands and a lump of flesh that had been gouged out from Edith’s belly!”
“At that moment, a voice resonated in my mind, ‘From now on, Edith is yours, including my identity, including my wealth.’
‘And I will take over your young body and continue living on your behalf!’
I saw the body that originally belonged to me stand up, and then step by step, it approached me, the familiar face now twisted with madness!
From the familiar voice, came an unfamiliar declaration:
‘I’ve finally succeeded, three unborn infants’ Remnant Souls combined with a woman’s despair form an Evil Spirit with the potential to become a Monster Spirit!’
‘The pull of lineage allows me to manipulate it without any reservations!’
‘Who says I’m not qualified? One day, I too will step into the Transcendent!’
At this, Gilmore suddenly stopped, “Then he left, and I watched helplessly as my own body walked away.”
“Later, the police surrounded the place, but I could neither speak nor make a sound until I was brought here.”
He lifted his head to look at Henrik and Roger, “It wasn’t me, all of this was Hannam’s doing, he wanted me to be his scapegoat!”
“Help me, please help me!”
“I don’t want to be here, I want to return to my body!”
Henrik shook his head, “I’m sorry, no one can help you, the process is irreversible…”
“Ah… Ah!”
Gilmore howled in agony.
“I want to get out, I want to get out!”
He suddenly leaped from the bed, but just then, the clarity in his mind suddenly vanished, and he felt himself gradually losing control over his body.
The next second, the world spun around, and Gilmore, disengaged from the effects of the Concentration Potion, collapsed onto the ground once again.
This guy’s mental state was already terrible, and the duration of the potion’s effect was much shorter than Roger’s.
After tying the fainted Gilmore back onto the bed, Roger felt only sympathy and caution for this man’s plight, and once again, he sensed the dangers of the Transcendent World.
Sometimes, not even immense power can prevent them.
“What a terrible guy.”
Henrik lamented.
“This Hannam not only achieved soul conversion but also created an Evil Spirit that is completely obedient to him.”
“From the time of the incident to now, he bided his time for many months, only beginning his first hunt now.”
“If it weren’t for a stroke of luck, we might not have been able to track down these clues. If we miss this chance and give him more time to grow stronger, it will indeed be troublesome to confront him next time.”
Henrik glanced at Roger, “Well done, your observation and sharpness were a great help to me during this mission.”
“Knowing the cause and effect, the rest should be easy to handle.”
Henrik pondered for a moment, “There’s no need to go to Hannam Manor anymore. After its first killing spree, the Evil Spirit has become powerful enough to leave its birthplace and attach itself to the Spellcaster.”
“We must find a way to locate that guy.”
As the two of them pushed the door to leave, just as their figures passed by Dr. Lunney’s office door, the pendant hanging around Roger’s neck suddenly grew warm.
He let out a light “Hmm,” and casually glanced into the room.
What do you think?
