Demon Lord and His Unknown Child With the Empress

Vol. 1 - Chapter 87 - My Dearest Wife, Be the Light of My Life

The night deepened, and snow began to fall.

People on the streets started heading home one after another. The bustling and lively roads grew quiet, with only a few figures lingering under the dim lights.

Luo Ruying stood at the entrance of the street, holding Luo Hongye in her arms, her gaze fixed on the distant end of the road.

After parting with Ning Yechen, she hadn’t immediately returned home. Instead, she chose to wait here on the only path leading back, hoping to see him return. She wanted to take the opportunity tonight, during the New Year’s Festival, to give him the gift she had prepared.

Luo Hongye, having walked with her for quite some time, was now fast asleep in her arms.

Ning Yechen originally planned to sneak back home unnoticed, but when he saw Luo Ruying waiting for him at the street corner with their child in his arms, he changed his mind. What’s she doing out here in the cold instead of going home?

A faint smile tugged at the corners of his mouth as he silently descended into a nearby alley. He pretended to be returning from the market and walked towards her. “Dear~”

“Welcome back.”

“Hmm? Weren’t you going to buy something?”

Luo Ruying felt a sense of relief wash over her upon seeing Ning Yechen appear. She had been uneasy all night, suspecting that something unusual was happening in the city.

She regretted letting him leave her side. Ning Yechen was only a mortal, and the city was full of cultivators. If danger arose, he wouldn’t stand a chance.

In addition to wanting to give him her gift, she had been waiting here out of concern for his safety. If he hadn’t returned, she would have gone out to search for him.

However, seeing him come back empty-handed puzzled her. After all, he had said he was going to buy something. She was curious about what it might be.

Ning Yechen froze, only then remembering the excuse he had used earlier. He hadn’t actually bought anything!

Under Luo Ruying’s questioning gaze, he explained, “Ah, when I got there, it was already closed…”

“Closed? On such a lively day?” she asked in confusion, though she didn’t dwell on it.

“Yes, maybe the owner took his family out to enjoy the festivities,” Ning Yechen replied smoothly.

After some thought, Luo Ruying found the explanation reasonable. On such a festive occasion, it wasn’t unusual for shop owners to close temporarily and join the celebrations with their families.

“Alright, dear, it’s cold outside. Let’s go home.” Ning Yechen took her arm and gently led her home.

But Luo Ruying hesitated, her face tinged with embarrassment, “Wait… I… I have something for you.”

“Hmm?” Ning Yechen stopped in his tracks and looked at her with eager anticipation. He had sensed earlier she might have something to say to him, and now he realized it was a gift!

Seeing his excited expression, Luo Ruying became even more bashful. After a moment of hesitation, she took out a silver-white, fluffy scarf from her arms and handed it to him.

Initially, she had planned to knit him a sweater, just like she had done for Luo Hongye. However, as she worked on it, she felt the design didn’t look quite right. Ning Yechen wasn’t a child like Luo Hongye, who could wear anything.

A plain-colored sweater without any patterns seemed too dull and unflattering. In the end, she decided to make a scarf instead and planned to give it to him tonight as a New Year gift.

Ning Yechen held the scarf in his hands, his face lighting up with delight. It was warm to the touch. He had thought Luo Ruying had only been busy knitting winter clothes for Luo Hongye and hadn’t expected that she had made a scarf for him.@@novelbin@@

My wife is so wonderful…

“Thank you, dear.” Ning Yechen stepped forward to pull Luo Ruying into his arms, his hands wrapping around her slender waist.

Luo Ruying blushed slightly. Fortunately, the presence of Luo Hongye between them kept their bodies from being too close.

“Alright, let’s go home,” she murmured, her face slightly flushed. Seeing how much he liked her gift made her happy. It was her first time giving a gift to someone outside her family.

“Dear, I have a request. Can you grant it?” Ning Yechen asked, his arms still around her, his eyes locked on hers.

Having spent the evening surrounded by people and later interrupted by the Sacred Lotus Sect, this moment of privacy was a rare opportunity he wasn’t going to waste.

“Hm? What is it?” Luo Ruying asked curiously. It was rare for Ning Yechen to make such a formal request.

He smiled faintly and leaned closer to whisper something in her ear. Luo Ruying’s face immediately turned a deep shade of red. She hesitated, glancing around nervously before asking softly, “Now…? Here?”

“Yes!” Ning Yechen smiled and nodded seriously.

After confirming once more that no one else was around, Luo Ruying, her cheeks still flushed, shyly called out in a soft voice, “H-Husband…”

That’s right. Ning Yechen’s request was for her to call him ‘husband’.

While she had addressed him as such in public before, doing so privately, face-to-face, was a first for her, and it felt difficult to say. Ning Yechen simply said he wanted to hear her call him that again.

With no one else around, she decided to indulge his request.

Hearing her soft, bashful voice calling him ‘husband’ filled Ning Yechen’s heart with joy. Looking at her shy and beautiful face, he couldn’t resist cupping her cheeks with his hands and leaning closer.

Luo Ruying’s heart pounded wildly, and a nervous anticipation built within her. She closed her eyes slowly and tilted her lips forward slightly.

Although she had once thought about killing him after losing her innocence to him, she had never truly blamed him. After all, it had been her who had forced the situation. Over time, as she lived with him and saw how well he cared for her and their child, she came to appreciate him.

She no longer regretted giving herself to him that night. She deeply cherished this life with him and their child. Since she had already devoted herself to him and bore his child, she now fully accepted him as her one and only husband.

“Dear, please take care of me for the rest of my life~” Ning Yechen traced his fingers gently across her soft, fair cheeks.

With these heartfelt words, he leaned in and kissed her inviting lips.

“Mm…”

A soft, tender moan escaped as their lips met, entwining in a deep and passionate kiss.

It was their first time kissing each other passionately with such clarity of mind. Luo Ruying’s face turned an enchanting shade of red as she surrendered to the moment.

When their lips finally parted, Luo Ruying looked at Ning Yechen with shy, dreamy eyes and gently nodded, responding to his earlier confession.
