Demonic Dragon: Harem System

Chapter 323 Why didn't you show this before?

"That's right," she continued, now laughing awkwardly. "I... forgot."

Lyana closed her eyes and took a deep breath, trying to keep calm amidst the growing tension. "You forgot...?" She repeated slowly, as if the words were poison on her lips. "You forgot to tell me that we're walking straight into the den of a race that wants to see our heads on stakes?!"

"Well, it's not like they're that literal about it..." Evelyn began, but her voice faltered when she noticed the vampires' icy glares intensifying.

"Literal or not, they're going to try to kill us!" Lyana growled, drawing her sword in a fluid motion. The metallic sound echoed like a warning.

"Stay behind me, princess," Lyana ordered, instinctively moving to block Evelyn with her own body. "And please, don't try to fix this with words. This isn't the kind of problem a smile can solve."

The vampires began to approach silently, like predators circling their prey. Their fangs gleamed under the pale light of the city, and their eyes, now as red as fresh blood, reflected pure contempt.

"You don't belong here," one of them said, his deep voice cutting through the air. "Elves in Alagon... It's an insult we can't ignore."

Evelyn tried to speak, but Lyana silenced her with a deadly glance. "No," she said in a tone that brooked no argument. "You've done enough for today. Leave this to me."

"Are you blaming me for all this?" Evelyn asked, crossing her arms, but keeping her voice low.

"If I survive, yes," Lyana replied without looking back.

The vampires didn't wait any longer. The first one charged, as fast as lightning, aiming directly at Lyana. She blocked the strike with her sword, the force of the impact making her feet slide across the ground.

"Damn," Lyana muttered to herself, her arm muscles tense as she repositioned her sword. A new presence stood out among the vampires, a denser and more oppressive aura than the previous ones.

The figure moved slowly, but each step seemed like thunder echoing through Lyana's sharp senses. The vampire was larger, more robust, with a stance that exuded combat experience. His eyes glowed like embers, and a cruel smile formed on his lips.

"An elf who knows how to fight?" he remarked, his voice heavy with disdain. "Rare. But still, you're in the wrong place, girl."

Lyana didn't respond. Her firm hands gripped the hilt of her sword, and she took a defensive stance, sizing up her opponent. He didn't seem like an ordinary foe. The way the other vampires made way for him made it clear he was someone of importance or considerable strength.

"Princess, stay behind me," Lyana ordered in a low tone, not taking her eyes off her adversary.

"I've heard that before," Evelyn replied, trying to sound casual, but clearly worried.

The sturdy vampire charged with a speed that belied his size, forcing Lyana to react quickly. Their swords clashed with a deafening sound, sparks lighting up the space between them. The force of the blow made Lyana's feet slide backward, but she managed to keep her balance, pushing against the opponent's blade.

"Impressive," the vampire said, his eyes gleaming with something that resembled respect. "But that won't be enough."

He attacked again, this time with a series of quick and precise strikes. Lyana dodged and blocked with difficulty, feeling the pressure increase with each passing moment. Her breath grew heavy, but she refused to retreat.

"You're persistent," the vampire said, momentarily stepping back to assess her. "But you shouldn't be here. Only a fool enters a wolf's den without a plan."

"Don't worry," Lyana replied between breaths, her sword still raised. "My plan is simple: cut anyone who comes near us."

The vampire laughed, a guttural laugh full of contempt. "Confident, but naive. Let's see how long this determination lasts."

He charged again, his strength growing with each attack. Lyana used all her skill to keep up with the fight, but she knew she couldn't sustain this much longer.

Another vampire tried to approach Evelyn from behind, but Lyana noticed just in time and spun her sword in a perfect arc, forcing him to retreat. "I told you to stay behind me!" she yelled.

"I am behind you!" Evelyn retorted, though she was clearly assessing her options to intervene.

The vampires hesitated for a moment, as if evaluating the strength of their opponent. Lyana was far from an easy target, but still, the numbers weren't in her favor.

"If you have any brilliant ideas, now would be a great time to share," Lyana said between breaths, her sword dripping with the dark blood of one of the attackers.

"Actually, I do," Evelyn said, a mischievous smile appearing on her lips. She slowly raised her hands in a gesture of surrender.

"Princess... what are you doing?" Lyana asked, her tone heavy with suspicion.

"Trusting that he would come," Evelyn answered calmly, never taking her eyes off the vampires.

Suddenly, a new wave of energy flooded the area. It was distinct from the hostility emanating from the vampires—much more powerful, more dominant. The air became dense, heavy, and even the robust vampire hesitated, looking over his shoulder.

"Enough," Strax's voice echoed, cold and authoritative, his presence filling the space like a storm. He emerged from the shadows, his steps slow but carrying undeniable impact.

Lyana, still panting, gave a sigh of relief. "Took you long enough," she murmured, lowering her sword slightly but not losing her guard.

"I hope you're having fun," Strax said with a cutting voice, his eyes fixed on the robust vampire. "Now, it's my turn to fix this."

The robust vampire took a step back, lowering his sword in a gesture of respect. "Elves are not welcome here."

"Is that so?" Strax replied with an icy tone, moving closer to Evelyn and Lyana. He gave a subtle smile to the princess before looking at Lyana, who still held her firm posture. "You just needed to wait… But tell me, how did you make it to the city?"

"It wasn't exactly the plan," Lyana replied, sheathing her sword. "The coachman was human. He had some... connections."

Strax gave an enigmatic smile before turning his gaze back to the vampires around them, now clearly in a confrontational stance. "Leave us alone."

He turned, facing the robust vampire, who seemed more tense by the second. "And who do you think you are?" the vampire challenged, his voice laced with disdain.

Strax merely sighed, almost bored. In a swift motion, he raised his hand and, with a single slash, cut through the air. The robust vampire, once arrogant, had his head severed from his body, falling to the ground with a muffled thud. The rest of the body remained standing for a moment, like a puppet without a master, before collapsing heavily.

The vampires around froze for a brief moment, stunned by the scene. But soon, fury took over them. Several vampires, roaring with rage, charged at Strax, their sharp blades gleaming in the dim light.

Lyana made a move to intervene, but Strax stopped her with a glance. "Stay behind me," he ordered, his voice cold and relentless.@@novelbin@@

The vampires drew closer, but before any of them could strike, Strax moved like lightning. His fists and feet became blurs of motion, smashing the vampires who dared to approach. Each blow was precise, fatal. The impact of his punches and kicks sent the vampires crashing to the ground with the force of a devastating tide.

"They'll learn their lesson," Strax murmured to himself, as his aura expanded, almost tangible. He was no longer just an elf—he was a force of nature, and every movement left a trail of destruction.

Lyana watched, amazed, as Strax tore through the vampires like a deadly dance. Her eyes were fixed on the battlefield, but she couldn't help but feel a growing sense of admiration for his strength and precision.

Evelyn, on the other hand, seemed unfazed, as if she already knew what was coming. She turned to Lyana with a subtle smile. "I knew he wouldn't disappoint."

The remaining vampires pulled back, their faces now marked by insecurity and fear. Strax paused for a moment, breathing deeply, and then looked directly at the few still standing.

"Who else?" he asked, his voice low but carrying a threat that made the vampires around him tremble.

"Oh, right..." Strax said, a hint of irony in his voice as he pulled an object from his pocket. It was an emblem. "Here, permission from the Vampire King. All good, right?"

Lyana looked closely at the emblem, her expression a mix of surprise and disbelief. "Why didn't you show this before?"

Strax gave an almost imperceptible smile, putting the emblem away with a calmness that contrasted with his earlier violence. "Because I needed... to release some tension. Not sure if you noticed, but I've been a bit stressed lately."

"Ah... right," Lyana said, unsure of how to respond.

Strax shrugged, as if nothing unusual had happened, and grabbed the bags with a swift movement. With a quick gesture, he tossed them into the [Inventory], never losing his composure. "Now, how about we go?" he asked, already turning toward the exit as if the chaos around them was completely irrelevant.
