Destroying My Own World

Chapter 316 A deal with the devil.

Zachary groaned the moment he regained consciousness because his whole body was stinging. He slowly opened his eyes and saw Mykel sitting in front of him, smoking his cigarette as he was enjoying the scenery.

He couldn't move his body, but he pushed himself and managed to sit up and leaned his body against his sword. He tried to remember what happened and he remembered what happened to Sinestra and what Mykel did to her.

He was staring at Mykel and looked at his right hand where the weird-looking flame appeared. The flame that melted Sinestra in almost an instant, and the orb that Mykel took from the ashes.

"Your face is so full of questions. Have a drink first," Mykel tossed a water bottle and landed beside Zachary.

Zachary drank the water as he struggled to keep his hand steady. His mouth was ripped apart and the scar was terrifying to look at because he did it himself. He then put down the bottle as he covered his mouth again with a mask and looked at his surroundings but saw nobody else but Mykel.

"You passed out for an hour, so take your time," Mykel said as he puffed the smoke. "Before you ask any question, I should be the one to ask you first," he looked at Zachary. "How did you know that Sinestra was looking for me?" he asked.

Zachary was silent and thought for a second.

"If you die here, nobody will suspect that I killed you. They would think you died by Sinestra's hands, so you need to answer my question carefully," Mykel warned.@@novelbin@@

"We got ourselves a piece of information when you cleared the eleventh rift. The whole world was watching when the raid teams prepared in front of it. A reporter from Verdentia captured the moment you entered the rift," Zachary answered.

Mykel had predicted something like that would happen since he wasn't planning to hide his identity back then. But that alone wasn't enough to convince him, so he looked at Zachary and realized how keen Zachary's mind and intuition were.

"Devlin and Aleric were there, but Sinestra didn't recognize them. I assumed the one who killed Alion was you knowing how strong you were when we first met. I know it wasn't a coincidence," Zachary pointed out and looked at Mykel with his eyes barely open.

Mykel stood up and approached Zachary with a cigarette in his mouth as he stared down at him. He then pulled the [Light Sword], making Zachary fall and be shocked when Mykel took his sword.

"How many people know about my identity?" Mykel asked as he swung the sword.

Zachary knew what Mykel was implying, and that was that Mykel would kill those who knew his real identity. Of course, he didn't know how many of them and he didn't know what to do to stop Mykel because he had nothing.

"Lady Melissa. She can get rid of it..." Zachary suggested.

"If she can't?" Mykel asked as he looked at the sword.

"I believe she can," Zachary answered with confidence. "I'll help her even if I have to dirty my hands," he added.

Mykel puffed the smoke and flicked the cigarette as he swung the sword and stabbed it back to the ground. He then walked away without saying a single word, but that alone was enough to assure Zachary that Mykel believed him.

"Give me a call when Lady Melissa wants to see me," Mykel said as he put on his mask and wore his cloak. "You know that I'm doing this not to protect my identity, but because of Queen Elestria's wish to protect my identity. So, no hard feelings," he pointed out and then left.

Zachary sighed in relief when he managed to calm the beast and he knew he used all his luck in that conversation alone. He was staring at the sky and he didn't notice the panel that was in front of him the whole time. A reward for rift clearance and another achievement for clearing the rift, but that was what made him confused.

"I wasn't the one who killed Sinestra, but why I'm the one who got all the rewards?" Zachary furrowed his eyebrows with a confused expression.

Mykel left the rift and it was so crowded because of the words that had spread around the world. People were trying to ask him questions, but the moment he let out his presence, everyone collapsed and lost their strength. Not a single person could stand up or move their hands, only their heads were pointing at him.

Mykel left and disappeared into a dark alley, and that was when everyone regained their strength. They tried to find him, but he had been long gone, and the only ones who stayed at the rift were the raid team. They were worrying if Zachary was still alive or not, but they realized the rift was still open, and that meant someone was still alive inside.

"I see. Do what you must, and make sure you don't disrespect Melissa. She's useful for us and if can, try to persuade her and try to make her indebted to me even though she's already indebted, but I want her to be cornered," Elestria said on the phone.

"Understood," Mykel responded.

Not long after that Mykel got a phone call from an unknown number, and it was Melissa who called him. He was told to meet her in the hospital where Zachary was treated after he came out of the rift as a hero once again. Read latest stories on My Virtual Library Empire

When Mykel arrived, he was brought to the highest floor and there were only a few rooms. It was as fancy as a penthouse and he entered the furthest room where Zachary and Melissa were. He saw Melissa feeding Zachary a piece of an apple and treated him as if they were more than just an acquaintance.

"I have heard everything from Zach. I know what you want and as we speak, my people are getting rid of all the evidence of you and your identity," Melissa said. "It would take a few days to erase everything, but I can guarantee you once it's done, nobody would know anything," she added.

"Her Highness would appreciate it if she heard it," Mykel nodded his head as he kept standing at the door. "But you won't be calling me here just to say that since you can say it on the phone or tell that to Her Highness. What else do you want to tell me?" he asked.

"You're too powerful to be bound by Her Majesty. You have your own reason and I don't believe loyalty is the only reason," Melissa said as she stopped cutting the apple in her hand. "What is it that you're after?" she asked.

"I see. So it's nothing important," Mykel said as he sighed. "If there's nothing else, I'll excuse myself," he added and opened the door in front of him.

"I treat my people like a human being. There's nobody is sane enough to follow her blindly," Melissa said and looked at Mykel.

"Lady Melissa!" Zachary glared at Melissa in disbelief.

Zachary was shocked when Melissa said something like that about Elestria, especially in front of Mykel. He wanted to stop her, but his body was heavily injured, and the worst part was he wouldn't be able to protect her if Mykel decided to threaten her.

Mykel slowly pulled the door in front of him and closed it back, and then he froze the handle, making it impossible to open. He turned around and looked at Melissa without any expression.

"Give me a reason that I shouldn't kill you," Mykel said as he slowly walked toward Melissa.

"Her Majesty needs me. I know what she wants," Melissa answered without hesitation. "I hold no powers against Her Majesty even if I want to. I have no choice, nobody has the choice either because of the power she possesses," she continued with her hand holding the knife. "I want to know... I want to know if I'm not a disposable object in the future," she pointed out.

Mykel didn't say anything and stood right in front of Melissa and stared down at her. He could see her hands trembling and she couldn't hold the knife properly so that it wouldn't be able to hurt him even if she wanted to.

"With those things you said and your attitude, I think you're already disposable, Lady Melissa. You just need to be careful on your way home, My Lady, especially when your guard can't protect you right now," Mykel said with his cold gaze. "But that is if you have nobody else to protect you," he added.

Melissa and Zachary were confused by what Mykel meant.

"Your death is imminent the moment I leave this room, or perhaps even before I leave the room," Mykel said as he casually took the knife from Melissa's trembling hand.

"I will work for you..." Melissa said in her trembling voice. "I know that you have an ulterior motive for following her, and you're strong enough that you don't need anyone's help," she added.

"Then why do you want to work for me?" Mykel asked as he put the knife right on Melissa's throat.

"That's the point. My life is worth nothing in your eyes and you won't waste your time to kill me. But even if I can only bring you a cup of tea for you every morning, that alone is enough that I'm being useful to you," Melissa answered.

"Fair enough," Mykel smirked as he looked at Melissa. "I hope you don't regret it," he added as he gave back the knife. "If you think that I'm better than Elestria, you're wrong," he pointed out as he walked toward the door.

Mykel melted the ice and opened the door, but before he left, he looked over his shoulder and glanced at Melissa.

"You have just made a deal with the devil, or at least that's what they said," Mykel smirked and then left.
