Chapter 920: Lady Vinegar and Baby Luca

Meanwhile....

In the desolate expanse of a barren sub-plane, Lady Vinegar found herself cast away, separated from Earth along with other banished demons.

The landscape was unforgiving, with heavy, dusty winds whipping across the dry terrain. The azure sky offered little solace, appearing empty yet holding the threat of ethereal monsters that lurked and attacked intermittently.

This realm existed in a liminal space, both physical and ethereal, more connected to the spirit world than the Earthly realm. Negative spirits could traverse through cracks into this realm known as the After Truth, bringing constant danger to those trapped within.

Lady Vinegar had problems with her cosmic energy and her magic. These were effects of the subplane on her.

Lady Vinegar clung tightly to Luca, a wounded child whose care she had taken upon herself with a fierce maternal instinct. Though she had never been a mother before, her love for Luca mirrored that of a devoted parent. Every glance at the child reminded her of the man she had once loved, driving her determination to keep him safe amidst the chaos of their surroundings.

However, caring for Luca proved to be a challenge. Unsure of how to properly tend to a child’s needs, Lady Vinegar relied on her own magical abilities to sustain him. Luca, being half-demon and inheriting the strong witch bloodline of his mother, was sustained by her magical nourishment, but the strain on Lady Vinegar’s own survival weighed heavily on her.

Despite the hardships, Lady Vinegar found solace in speaking to Luca during moments of respite from battle. She shared tales of his father’s bravery and valor, mingled with her conflicting emotions of love and hatred towards him. Lenny, Luca’s father, was both the object of her longing and the reason for her profound loss, having been responsible for the death of her father.

Alone in this hostile realm, Lady Vinegar’s conversations with Luca became her only source of companionship, a bittersweet reminder of her past and the uncertain future that lay ahead.

Despite the challenges of their surroundings, Lady Vinegar found solace in the moments shared with Luca, whose reactions seemed to mirror her own emotions. His smiles brought her fleeting joy, while his cries served as an ominous warning of impending danger, a trait that both amazed and comforted her in their perilous circumstances.

As days passed, Luca became her unwitting detection agent, alerting her to the presence of ethereal beasts that lurked in the shadows of their desolate realm. Even with her formidable strength, predicting the creatures’ arrival proved difficult at times, but Luca’s instinctive responses provided a crucial advantage in their battles for survival.

Yet, the threats extended beyond the ethereal dangers. Lady Vinegar encountered other banished demons scouring the sub-plane for sustenance, leading to fierce clashes where she fought valiantly to protect herself and Luca. Despite the draining toll on her cosmic energy, she remained resolute and determined to keep the child safe.

One fateful day, their journey led them to an unexpected discovery—an oasis, the first body of water they had encountered since arriving in this barren land. Overwhelmed by the allure of refreshment and relaxation, Lady Vinegar succumbed to the temptation to bathe and unwind in the tranquil waters.

Of course, she first of all used her presence to check the surroundings for danger, but she found none.

Then again, this subplane had been messing with her connection to cosmic energy and even her magic since she got here.

But more than that, the attraction of fresh water was too much to resist.

Unaware of the lurking danger, she left Luca resting beneath a nearby tree as she indulged in the oasis’s rejuvenating embrace.

Unbeknownst to her, hidden demons lurked in the sands, observing her every move with malicious intent. However, it wasn’t Lady Vinegar they sought to target; she was deemed too formidable a foe. Instead, their gaze fell upon the vulnerable child left unguarded, presenting an opportunity they couldn’t resist.

As Lady Vinegar submerged herself into the oasis’s crystalline waters, a sense of weightlessness enveloped her, melting away the burdens of her weary soul. The cool embrace of the liquid caressed her skin, offering a respite from the relentless heat of their desolate realm. With each gentle ripple, a wave of tranquility washed over her, soothing her frayed nerves and easing the tension that had settled deep within her muscles.

The faint scent of blooming wildflowers drifted on the breeze, mingling with the earthy aroma of the oasis’s waters, transporting Lady Vinegar to a realm of serenity and nostalgia.

The soft murmur of the flowing stream whispered ancient melodies, lulling her into a state of blissful reverie. In this moment of reprieve, she felt as though she had been transported back to her youth, to the days when she roamed the lush gardens of her family’s estate as a governor’s daughter, free from the burdens of her current existence.

With closed eyes, Lady Vinegar surrendered herself to the gentle sway of the currents, allowing herself to be carried away by the timeless rhythm of nature. The sunlight danced upon the surface of the water, casting shimmering patterns of golden light that danced across her skin like ethereal ribbons. Each droplet that cascaded from her form seemed to carry with it the weight of her worries, dissolving into the tranquil depths below.

Lost in the euphoria of the moment, Lady Vinegar’s senses sank deep into the embrace of the oasis, oblivious to the lurking danger that surrounded her. The gentle lullaby of the waters drowned out the distant whispers of malevolent entities that slithered through the sands, their eyes fixed upon their unsuspecting prey. In this fleeting moment of bliss, she was blind to the shadows that encroached upon her sanctuary, unaware of the imminent threat that loomed just beyond the water’s edge.

As Luca’s cries pierced the tranquil air, his tears mingling with the shimmering waters, Lady Vinegar’s senses, dulled by exhaustion and the fleeting bliss of the oasis, failed to register the ominous warning.

The echoes of danger were drowned out by the soothing melody of the flowing stream, leaving her unaware of the imminent threat that crept ever closer.

Unbeknownst to her, the demons that had laid claim to the oasis had set their sights on the vulnerable child, viewing him as an easy target for their nefarious intentions. Their presence concealed by the shimmering veil of the oasis, they moved with calculated precision, their sinister motives masked by the guise of tranquility.

With swift and silent efficiency, the demons descended upon Luca, their taloned hands snatching him from his peaceful slumber. A stifled cry escaped the child’s lips as they sealed his mouth, robbing him of his voice and his only means of alerting Lady Vinegar to the impending danger.

By the time Lady Vinegar’s senses began to stir from their blissful reverie, it was too late. The oasis, once a sanctuary of solace and serenity, had become a trap, ensnaring them both in a web of deceit and betrayal. With a sinking heart and a mounting sense of dread, Lady Vinegar realized the truth too late—that the oasis’s tranquil waters concealed not only danger, but also the darkest depths of betrayal and despair.

Luca was gone...

"Luca!!!" Lady Vinegar’s anguished cry echoed through the desolate landscape, her heart heavy with fear and desperation. Within her, the two souls that resided within her body clashed, each vying for dominance as they searched for answers amidst the chaos.

With a sense of urgency, Lady Vinegar’s gaze fell upon the telltale footprints etched into the sandy terrain. The reptilian demons, their sinister presence unmistakable, had left behind a trail that she could not ignore. With determination burning in her veins, she set off in pursuit, her resolve unwavering in the face of adversity.

Yet, her hopes were dashed as she beheld the approaching tempest, a swirling mass of sand and wind that threatened to obscure her path and erase any trace of the demons’ passage. Panic seized her heart as she realized the gravity of the situation—the sandstorm would swallow the footprints whole, leaving her without a clue as to Luca’s whereabouts.

A sense of helplessness washed over her, her soul weighed down by the crushing weight of uncertainty and despair. With each passing moment, the distance between her and her precious Luca grew, the demons’ malevolent intentions lurking in the shadows of her mind.

Meanwhile, unbeknownst to Lady Vinegar, the demons that had snatched Luca from her grasp navigated the treacherous sands with ease, their destination hidden within the depths of a looming mountain.

With each step, they drew closer to their den, their captive held tightly in their clutches as they vanished into the swirling abyss of the sandstorm.

There were three in number. Each one of them scaly and ugly.

They were all impressively, deep demon ranked Demons.

They dropped the child in the den as they all smiled at one another.
